really nice way to inform bout the tent. I have brought it - great tent for life !
Excellent! Thanks again Simon, you’ve just answered another of my questions. 👍 to a solar panel on the roof racks 😁
I bet steaks taste good on that 👍
Perfect! Thanks you’ve just answered one of my questions 👍
Thank you so much for your videos about the Autohome RTT’s. You’ve allowed me to find the quality ‘home’ I’ve been looking for. Much appreciated 😁, so I’ve just subscribed. Given their price (albeit value for money). How secure are they to the roof racks in terms of security from opportunistic thieves. I’ve had trailers full of work equipment stolen, door locks on trailers broken etc. Having something else broken or stolen would be very upsetting. I read that RTT’s are sought after. Could extra locks be attached anywhere? I wish we lived in a world where these things didn’t happen but…. Happy travels to you and your family!
Lol just watched the end of your video. I didn’t realise that you import them. You’re the perfect person to ask then… 1. Can the roof racks on the Magglolina be used for a solar panel (the weight is far less than 25kg) but just thinking about aerodynamics and securely attaching the panel to the racks so it doesn’t blow off)? 2. How much does the small Maggiolina Extreme weigh? 3. Would it be compatible with a Hyundai iLoad? 4. If I drive to where you’re at, can I pay to help you, help me install it on my roof? Thank you, once again 😁
How does it do in a moderately strong wind? One reviewer from the US showed a video in which the Airtop was bending to the side.
Gday @esticolis, thanks for you question. I've camped on a beach on the west coast of Tassie in howling winds and I must say I was impressed. I did wake up at 3 in the morning and face the car into the wind, which naturally helped as it halves the amount of surface facing the wind. I also used the wind-stoppers on the gas struts to take out the small movements and make it more rigid - and that helped. It worked great. I'd say on the whole the boxy shape is really better than the clam-shell tents in the wind.. just not as tall. The Maggiolina range with it's scissor mechanism will always be the best for rigidity, so that's a good option too.
The Columbus variant in small and medium have an universal rail system built into the bottom to attach to the crossbars, does this have same system?
Gday, yes all the Autohome tents share the same rail system - it is a channel running fore-aft recessed into the insulated fiberglass sandwich panel of the base. The clamp sets slide into the channel. So there is no additional height/thickness to the tent. Great having a tent with a properly insulated base under the mattress. :)
mooi!
Hi, thanks for the video. I have two little kids and want to sleep with them in the tent. Is ist possible that they fall out of the tent while sleeping? The door has no zipper at the bottom just the velcro closure.I fear that that they can slip through it...thanks for answering.
Hi @brauhardwarebrauhardware8372, the inner door flap is very secure when tucked in and down next to/under the mattress. I would be comfortable sleeping in there with my young kids, and have done many times without a hitch. 🙂
Great review, do you know if you can get extra racks for carrying the kayaks or surfs on top of the tent?
I’ve got a white air top on top of my troopy. It’s amazingly aerodynamic. Hardly notice it’s there. Hasn’t moved since I fitted it on two front runner bars. Great for two people and a dog.
Thanks @skinnytroopy I agree - the tent makes no difference to my fuel economy. Waaaay better than a chunky swag or something bulky like that on the roof.
Hi, is it a problem if there is space between my bars and the screws ? My bars are 3,2cm width and your attach system is 4,4cm
hi thanks for the question, no that should be fine... the brackets are steel so 5-6mm of span either side will be ok
Nice detailed review
Thanks @RogerCampillo :)
i really appreciate your review and care dor details! follow u! cheers from italy 😀
Thanks !! @2ES_ 😊
Thanks for the showcase of the airtop. I noticed when you pulled up the mattress it looked like some kind of grey mesh. Does that come standard or something you installed post purchase? Cheers mate!
hey Michael, that is the upgraded comfort plus mattress system - a replacement memory foam mattress and springs underneath. pretty nice. the standard mattress is good as well - some find it fairly firm. we recommend the under mattress air circulation mat with it. few things beat a nice flat mattress combined with a view of a dewy valley in the morning :)
Hi there, what thickness is the mattress in millimetres? I can't seem to find the details of this?
hi Samuel, on the Columbus it's 65mm ... and on the Maggiolina and Airtop 80mm :)
The FR plastic jerry cans are manufactured by Pioneer Plastics. they supply a 50mm Vented Screw Cap that fits the jerry can... taps can also be easily replaced with some copper connectors..
Thanks for the vid. What size was that Columbus?
gday that's a small 130cm width. The Airtop in the later review is a medium 145cm width. Both in the standard 210cm length (230cm available in Columbus and the wind-up Maggiolina). Cheers !
Great review. Thank you. We purchased the Airtop Medium from Defenders NW in WA last October. After years with a FWC Hawk we decided to simplify which allows complete use of the Tundra bed for storage. We used an Adarac (3 crossbars) rack system which is mounted 12” above the bed rails thus keeping the Autohome’s roof even with the cab roof. This also allows use of the roll up tonneau. Bathroom trips via the ladder take getting use to but we love it.
thanks for the comment Kardy. Yep they are an absolutely great tent. Yes the toilet trips need a bit of planning sometimes... although no fun getting out of any tent for that job really. Glad you love it.
thanks, love these tents and looking for either the box shaped or the columbus variant… not really sure yet. For a 210cm long version, could you get away with 2 of the front runner roof bars? Or will this be too unstable? Or what's the reason you went with 3?
hi nwitzki thanks for you comment - the tents are fine with two bars, and we fit lots with just two bars. If you can have 3 then more the merrier. In my case I have the front runner table between the front two bars, so that's why i needed a third. :)
@@theoverlanders ahh understood :) perfect and thank you for the reply. This was really the video and answer I was looking for even though I'm sorry to not be able to become a customer of yours since I'm from Germany. Thanks!

Tnx for sharing, I have the same tent and it is amazing!
thanks for commenting ! that is great to know 😀 they are so nice to use indeed
Love this 💛
Thanks Claire !!
I have 6 proquip jerrys. They all leak. They're absolutely garbage
Hi is it possible to only open it partially to have a lower wind profile?
hey thanks for the Q, i guess you could, although it would make the fabric billow. If you're keen on super wind-proof-ness go for a Maggiolina with the dralon fabric - that'd be pretty much the most wind proof tent in the known world. Very rigid :)
@@overlandersaustralia5316 oh good point about the tent sides billowing that would make it way worse in wind
Would have been nice to get a shot of the inside of the fridge and freezer? What the hell. You managed to get plenty of footage of the stupid baskets and the outside of the firdge but nothing of the inside. What a farce.
Where can I buy these

Can you please link a site for a California purchaser to be able to buy your amazing product?!
hi Christopher, Autohome USA are the guys you need :)
do you know where i could order struts like these ! my air top is extremely wobbly
hi if you're in Australia we have them in stock, otherwise try Autohome directly or a local distributor :)
@@theoverlandersdo you know the specs of these struts? I’m in the USA
Thank you for the review. I recently purchased the same tent. I have a question about washing the fabric due to camping under trees that were dropping sap like a fine mist. I'm thinking soap and water but don't want to use anything to hurt the waterproofing of the fabric. What is your recommendation? Thanks again.
Hi planning to fit out a new Prado, next year, this looks good 👍 , what type of rack system to use to fit the roof tent to , and do you supply also rack system
Hows the Front Runner holding up? Saw these but costs quite a lot more and thinking maybe just using a better tap with the ProQuip
Hello how are you l was just asking for a price on your rooftop tent please
Hi! Super review. I have a question: please let me know from where you buy the aluminum pipe system to make the main door as the awning (aluminium strut). I have a Air top from Motorhome but it have no this bars. Thank you!
@@theoverlanders Thank you for your answer. I'll write to Autohome to clarify
@@theoverlanders Hello, you said it specific to Colombus, but I have same tent as you and I didn't have those pipes with it. Did you bought them separately ?
How is it holding up after a few months if use?
And how much is that to buy tell surprise I can put that on my camper trailer..
which size is the Columbus you were displaying?
update pls ;)
Awesome review! Super helpful!
What size? Small or Medium?
Great review. I’m curious how it holds up if you are doing any aggressive off roading. Also how difficult is it to take off to store? Or do you leave it on?
Does your one leak when on it’s side? ruclips.net/video/lrn_Yat7DLY/видео.html
How much price
nice engineering. Thanks
Super Interesting stuff. Congratulations for having such a brilliant product line of roof-top tents. How are they priced? Is it possible to import them to India? Is it possible to purchase them online?
@@theoverlanders Thank you. I will contact them directly.
$5,799 to $6,599 from Maggiolina
Those are $66 on Amazon. That seems a bit steep.
How would you rate the mattress in term of comfort?
Terrible!!!
how does it hold up in strong winds?
What size is this one?
