The Hyper7 Keyboard - The Only 173% Mechanical Keyboard In The World
Просмотров 12 тыс.11 месяцев назад
Product Page - mechboards.co.uk/collections/kits/products/hyper-7-v4 After 2 years, we're finally bringing back the Hyper7!
I've ordered a 38 key keyboard, only used 65% and above before... wish me luck
Good luck! Just power through the first few painful days and you'll love it.
A 4 rows model (to include numbers/fkeys combo) would be interesting. I also vote for wireless capability.
Perfect keyboard for me, small enough I can carry to work in a tiny case, takes up minimal desk space, I like the low amount of travel of the switches while still being mechanical, 34 keys plus layers also allows me to be able to do everything i need on a computer without my fingers doing crazy maneuvers to hit certain keys
Is the case compatible with other corne pcbs? Or is the layout slightly adjusted?
The case should be backwards compatible with all standard Corne layouts
May i ask what keycaps you are using on the demo model?
I believe they are PBTfans Scanner keycaps
@@mechboards Thank you for the information!
Can you provide the name of those tenting stands?
They're called "ugreen magsafe stand".
I bought a ferris sweep 3 months ago. I consider myself a minimalist. I have used many keyboards like lily58, glove80, corne. When I started with the ferris sweep I thought I made a mistake and started seeing other keyboards with a some more keys. I sticked with the ferris sweep and personalized to my exact use case and has been the best keyboard experience I ever had, even better than the glove80 because of the little finger movement. I even consider the ferris to be more ergonomic (for me) than the glove80. I feel that I'm always on the home row. So if you try a ferris sweep, do not abandon it quickly, adjust it and take your time. The curve may be steep at first but is worth it. BTW, if you haven't used split keyboards before, I recommend something like the lily58 that is easier to learn and then move gradually to the sweep.
34-36 key is my sweet spot. Great video. I just might have to buy a kit from you now.
Tiny keyboards just can't be for me because they have to be too tailored to how one might use particular or limited set of software or environments/OSes. I'm too spread out in terms of "what I do", and prefer remain just as functional with standard stuff when I possibly am needing to temporarily use someone else's hardware or move around with a laptop format. I use a split keyboard with a thumb cluster, but that's about as far as I go. Happy with a Glove80 for the super comfortable curved keywell and reach, and keeping it QWERTY. One thing I see with the Glove80 that no other split keyboard of any size does comprably well is line up J/K with the same two fingers that control up/down. Though up/down needs to be swapped, that makes them the same two fingers as the vim motions.
Its called the "fist bump" keyboard , I just made that up 😂
Really glad to see you starting to modify the keymap later in the vid. When you go lower than 60% there's no one-size fits all. When you go lower than 40 something keys I think you really need to put some thought and trial-and-error into finding what works for you. Some people like to put a lot of work on their thumbs (like thumb shifting), others love home-row mods, and others swear by combos (which is perhaps the gateway to chording and going less than 34 keys). Hold-taps (tap acts like one key, hold acts like another) for things like brackets and frequently used symbols can also be really nice for programming unless you're allergic to small delays when typing symbols.
for me the sweep is the perfect amount of keys, I use them with home row mods which is really nice for some shortcuts but shift can be annoying to tune properly. also because the choc version is so small it fits in my pocket
The UNO next please! <3
For me a 48 split uni-body is the sweet spot. I definitely don't want to go any lower on the key count, i love having those few extra buttons.
I was the same, but I've fallen for this little thing. Part of me wants to even try a 4 column keyboard so I don't have to move my fingers at all. But that's crazy town...
@@mechboards Ben Vallack's probably still got some pcb's left over that he might give you. LOL
So I left a comment on the corne max keyboard video... Can that be available with a microphone?
I want one!!
i want a keyboard like this but with a built in microphone, is that possible?
I don't believe there are any split keyboards with microphones built in. Although it would be technically possible, just needs someone to design it
@@mechboardsbut not for this keyboard?
Damn now I want one
WILL you ever do a wireless option?
To make it wireless we'd need to remove the RGB and coloured screens as they'd drain the battery in hours. Maybe in a year or two we'll do a Corne Min and make it wireless!
@@mechboards but we could just turn the LEDs off when we want to do extended wireless, no? but maybe e-ink screens or similar would be better for the wireless.
the tenting looks so cool for me, i can only takes wireless keyboard, idk if this one could be (there is always the possiblity to presolder everything and let the user buy and plug the battery)
Man, I wish I could get on with these style boards but my brain can't ortho. This form factor as a 60% staggered and my wallet would fly to the screen.
If you commit to it then you should be able to ortho

Yesssss! I've been waiting for this!
Great video. Years ago I used to love using the old Psion Series 3 organisers when I commuted to work by bus, using the built-in OPL programming language, especially the tiny little Siena. This would be great to use in a Pi powered, flip open clamshell device. 😁
The dark blue looks actually better than the black, especially with the light blues and whites.
Oh man! I bought one of these years ago, I loved the process of soldering. The "it's not great as a keyboard" is unfortunately too true, but that's kind of why I love it? It's a simple little device that invites you to encounter it's rough spots and still find use in it. It was my first "complete" project that used a mic - but now I'm on to making little personal cyberdecks and doodads - it's all for a hobby, but I cannot recommend it enough, especially if you haven't done anything like this before. It's almost meditative to solder so much, and then when you power it on and press some buttons you get this little gremlin in you that says "BUILD MORE"
I'm glad you're choosing to get it into the hands of the "smaller" channels first. I honestly feel like doing this is the push that this board needs. You've piqued all of OUR interest but there are still a lot of folks who don't know what it's called. It would be beneficial to see it in the hands of folks in the keyboard community - Folks who know the difference between Cherry and TX stabs or maybe even have some on hand or know how to adjust and tune them. Take the time and build it right and I think you'd benefit from more community input and support. This video alone should have ten times the views it has! Ya'll are doing it right and you're building an absolutely amazing piece of machinery and it'll be nice to see it in action more.
How the hell is your channel so small
It's almost as small as his keyboard... but much much smaller than his clickbait title. which is... you know... an obvious lie.
Having spent over 40 years using a huge number of keyboards of all shapes and sizes, perhaps you can give me a specific set of dimensions that would make a keyboard be officially classed as "tiny"? I mean, if I need to buy a microscope to actually see the keys, I need to know in advance. 😁
Like what possible justification could anyone have to buy this, different stagger but not ortholinear 😂 The opposite of a corne, which is a joy to use
I've you
At this point you should probably look at producing keycaps.
Super great video, love the honesty! Super nice keyboard but my desk would collapse
It also looks like the white spacebar doesn't color match the alphas
That one was just a placeholder, the real one will match the profile and colour
What is the point of this keyboard? I'm just now seeing this pop up in my feeds. It looks interesting but I'm not quite understanding it's purpose.
it helps alot of people with programs like premiere pro but for me i ordered it because it looks cool lol
I'm a game developer and setting up the right keybinds including any for programming will come in clutch, the use case is whatever you can justify as any ways for.
The purpose: moar keys. Anything else is rationalization.
As a buyer and a streamer (combatcarrot) you are doing the right thing by your choices! Good product and delays over anything else!
nice golfwang t shirt i love it
You're doing the right thing guys, make a bad product and everybody will be disappointed! Do it right and this could be a keyboard for the ages! :D
i cant wait for ur review
@@wisehatYT Cheers mate, I can't wait either :D .
Would it be possible to have Signature Plastics produce another round of SA Symbiosis-based keycaps for Hyper 7?
Drop the 'boy'
Nice
Nice
i only just found out about it and it looks awesome. i also think a split version would be a great idea. in the site it says "Close - 27th February 2024" so i guess we can not join in this group buy? is there any way to purchase this one now or in the near future?
Make it split.
I’ve been looking into keyboards for a year now. It’s a rabbit hole. I want an ortholinear, split, ergonomic, wired, keyboard. As close to the dactyl design as possible. Other designs to take inspiration from being the moonlander, ergodox ez, dygma defy, UHK 60v2, etc. there are pleanty of other ideas/designs to incorporate into these. Get all the best designs and put it into one keyboard… that’s my dream. A keyboard custom built for humans hands, like a glove. Shoot, I have a 2 whole playlist dedicated to just ergo keyboards on youtube and my browser. I’m even considering learning a new key layout. Dvorak, halmak, rsthd. Sadly most come in DIY packages or are just way too expensive. Seriously the average price for these is like $280-$350. That’s crazy!!!! We need more innovation. Our input devices are so outdated.
Man thats SUPER cool
I want this so badly, time to get some extra shifts in!!!!
one day ... i'll come back here and buy it, but for now price is out of reach for me 🥲
I've just joined the group-buy. When these are shipped, where will I find the source code for the firmware? Finding it was difficult for the R3.
