    I've started publishing on Kindle Vella, and while I totally see your points, and I agree it's got a lot of issues, I decided to stick it out for now. Mostly cause I'm curious to see what's going to happen with this and record my experiences as a new author wading into the pool. (Also I have a day job I am not planning to quit cause I love it too much so why not experiment.) I went in to study what the top authors on the fav list are doing. And wow what an eye opener. Just reading the 1 and 2 star reviews on their Vella pages gave me some insight into the tactics one has to use to get noticed (and how it ticks off readers). To be honest, if they want the site to thrive, they need to stop trying to lure readers in and fix the issues that are driving them away.

    Disappointing to hear the results of their changes. Definitely incentivizing readers while alienating authors. I may pull my unfinished Vella down after seeing this; it was making pennies, anyway. This way I can refocus on the novelization. Thanks for the update!

    In all honesty, I'm about to pull out. There's just too much disrespect across the board on both sides. My readers hate it, I don't like that I'm being taken advantage of (let's be real, we don't get paid enough for what we do and people profit off of us too damn much) and it's just not what it could be as they don't show movement or even showcase new uploads and it's restricted only to us here in the US. There are a lot of things that I personally like, but when my readers are like 'yeah, no' then there is a massive issue for me. Massive. I wish I had gotten in on the ground floor and seen what it was then, but right now? No. I don't see it surviving another 5 years unless they make it worth the while to everyone.

    • @faultypremise
      @faultypremise 2 дня назад

      Yeah, I noticed this. New stories and authors don't stand a chance against the people and stories that've been there for years. The top #1 on the fav list hasn't had but one update in the last 30 days and yet it's still #1. There's no way to search for new stories and new authors. Their tag system is bollocks to be honest. I'm sticking it out for now because I'm curious, but if they refuse to learn and grow the platform, I'll likely be skipping off to other pastures eventually.

    Welcome to the former Vella Club. I made 36,000$ last year, some Vella authors made more. I saved 1000$ a month to convert to Audible when the Vella 'wave' finished. We all knew our time was short. Zon had you and I stock the Vella Library with 2,000,000 stories. Once they had that, their mission was complete. They took away most of our pay and became customer oriented. They didn't promote Vella while we were building 'their' library, as much as we begged them too. Some of my friends have moved on to Kickstarter. I moved on to Audible, but even with my savings after four books transferred from Vella, I can't afford the 'hot' narrators for awhile. I figure we make app. 2$ a book across all platforms. Zon always takes the lion share. Too many authors and not enuff readers :) But I do feel your pain. It's like I lost a full time job for sure. I quite BEFORE the massive changes because 16 hour days were too much for me. I will leave my stories up, but have transferred half of my 21 books to other platforms, with a goal of Audible (which takes time, but can recoup some of the narrator costs in time).

    I write in longhand on paper, in Libre Office on my laptop, and in Scrivener when I'm sitting to write a longer piece. For emergencies on the go I have Simplenote on my phone and can access it from my computers. Recently I've been learning to use Aeon Timeline which I'm finding very useful for getting a good handle on a complex sequence of events happening over a single day. (That describes about 80% of my current work in progress.) I refuse to use MSOffice/Word since Microsoft made it subscription only. Libre Office has everything I need in a word processing programme, and it's free.

I actually found this video in my feed while watching autism content. So it surprised me entirely when I realized five minutes through that this entire video was about writing 😂😅😅 Good writing advice, but I wasn’t expecting that and may have to restart the video so I can soak it in under the correct context. Thanks so much for this series. I haven't seen them all yet, but I plan to do so. This video, what I found must helpful is what you had to say about your publishing schedule. As a new-to-RUclips author/video maker, I've struggled with identifying a schedule that works for me. I was getting stressed trying to make one a week so took a step back to publish only one every two weeks over June and July. That has given me some perspective. The idea of making a batch of videos and releasing them over time! Obvious when you say it - but not something I thought of. (What can I say? I'm a a slow learner.) Also not being zealous about a schedule and taking a break sometimes. And not being afraid to quit. (I know you weren't talking about video making, but I can apply it to that.) So, again, thanks!
