I still remember watching this fight when I was first getting into kickboxing and Muay Thai. I showed it to some co-workers at my office, and you could see their faces change when Dekkers began unloading.

Man everything is fine and nice but this "music" makes me get thoothache.
I was there that night. I was myself training at the Muangsuring camp. I took a few photos of Dekkers and Rob Kaman and their team after the fight. I was stunned of how explosive and how powerful Dekkers was. I remember I ate dinner with Namphon Nongkeepahuyuth and he talked very respectfully about Raymond Dekkers. He said to me : "He is very good". A memory for life.
Very interesting sounds like an incredible experience. Wish I was around and involved in the sport during these times.
Those are some memories to cherish. And RIP to another legend, Namphon. He suffered such a bad car accident while he was still at the top of his game. Had to retire at age 25 or 26 I believe.

Look at the faces of Coban's team, they were pretty concerned about their fighter. Ramon learned with the pass of time that he had to be more aggressive and look for a knock out, but guess what, is not easy to know out Muay Thai fighters not even with coconuts thrown at their skull, so if you see how Ramon changed his combos with time, at first they were 2 super hard punches with all his strength, then 4-5, sometimes really crazy elbows to let your skull like a piggy bank. He never give up, just evolved in machine of super hard never ending kicks and punches that some Muay Thai fighters couldn't deal with. At that point he started to make a lot of knock outs. But it was just not normal. People think that UFC fights are the best because all what incorporates. But for people who don't know much, try watching Buakaw, or any classic Muay Thai fighter, and you'll see 20 minutes of a fight that seems more of a fight for your life. Ramon had that hunger, never broke a leg, and if you see Ramon Dekkers Highlights video you can see that he never stopped a kick because it could be blocked with a knee or something. He was on to crash against it or wherever is left of you. Love his fights and I wish he was still alive, never had the chance to travel and pay my respect as many did. 😢
