Quick video for a fairly quick local flight my son this fall. Landed on edge of Belwood lake now that the water is low enough to allow a solid runway:)
Learning to hang glide in Ontario, Canada
Просмотров 4,1 тыс.Год назад
@instinctwindsports Thought i'd make a video of my what it takes to get into hang gliding. The video doesn't show hundreds of flight between each stage but gives an idea of the progression Mark at instinct windsports uses to train his students. Very thankful to have had him as still an active trainer in Ontario. Thank you Mark!! The Aero towing parts are from S.O.G.A...aka southern Ontario han...

Rotax 582 conversion install on Challenger 2 ultralight
Просмотров 6 тыс.Год назад
I upgraded my challenger 2 from a Rotax 503 air cooled engine to the higher HP liquid cooled Rotax 582. I go over all the details in this video of the install including small tips and torque specs. This is just my experience so please always do your own homework if doing something similar:) I've had a lot of help from John Baker (rotacrepair.ca) Bill Bryan(Toronto aerosport , stouffville airpor...
Rotax 582 upgrade parts list and 503 removal Challenger 2

I tried videoing all the details of the removal but of course my battery died! In the video I show some of the removal and then I laid out all the components you need to upgrade to a 582 and went over them. At the end I let you all know the cost! Yikes! lol

Journey to Ultralight Pilot Permit in Challenger 2 C-IPRT
Просмотров 4,1 тыс.2 года назад
Here is a short video of how I got my ultralight pilot permit. I purchased an advanced ultralight via kijiji/Facebook marketplace. The owner delivered it to me in January in minus 20! Bill Bryan from (Toronto aerosport) agreed to train me in my own plane at my home field. (Juergenson Field) near Fergus, ON. This had its difficulties due to distance away ect. but was well worth it. Bill helped m...
Challenger 2 Ultralight Carb Ice two stroke 503
Просмотров 3582 года назад
This is my first flight in my new to me Challenger 2 C-IPRT. I've hired Bill Bryan from Toronto Aerosport to train me. After a long day of maintenance, the fog finally lifted! This was the last day we had snow this year. No wonder the fog! We did a very prolonged high powered run up and multiple taxies. Once we lifted off the very sticky snow we encountered engine power loss. Thankful for Bills...
Where is that? I have a challenger 2 in Ontario
In the video description I mention it’s Belwood Lake:)
Car Driving licence should be accepted for medical. I had to quit flying because of cost and nuisance to prove Pacemaker safe. Been driving with pacemaker for 15 years and no problems. While about it accept FAR 103 . typical Canada view of excessive safety reqts and restricts development of private flying
@@keithwalker6892 I’m fairly certain the ultralight licence is a self declared…to fly solo
What would a vid like this be without awful music.
Nice green runway. If i had the space i would jump all over this plane but with 3 challengers in the hanagr already. time to sell some. Good luck on your sell she is a beauty.
"Music" is so f***ing annoying that even though I'm a Challenger owner, I couldn't take more that 40 seconds of this. Is your video so boring that you need "music" to keep the viewer entertained. How about the natural ambient sounds - wind, engine, etc. Luckily there are many channels with Challengers and no musical accompaniment!! Thumbs down
I would be very curious in a true weight comparison between a 503 install and the 582 install. all said and done i'm sure there is not much power to weight ratio gain for the cost of the 582.
It has WAY more performance than 503. No comparison. Yes the 503 is good and gets the job done.
Ditch the obnoxious "music" and I'll watch. I want a flying video, not a country music bar. Til then, thumbs down.
Came for the flying but stayed for the country music. 10/10
Nice video
Water is low!
Kitchener might be fun afterall!
great job
Epic video!
How does the pilot permit work?
I’m wondering what kind of doors you have , I build me a hanger but I’m looking for a door, 34’ feet wide, I have a challenger one seater
Great job on the video. You guys are lucky to have Mark at Instinct Windsport for some great flying and training. Looks like a great place for flying. Wish I was closer.
Nice flying and some good landings. Your tow connections seem a bit complex? I trained with Rohan Holtkamp of Dynamic Flight in Victoria Australia. His system had us being towed to 1300ft with only 25min of flying time, I had no skill but didn't need it. The rope released itself if the angle got to 90 deg and it self adjusted for angle by a ring on the main rope sliding along a two point rope bridle. I didn't know how it worked and didn't need to. The Thermaling looked great where you are, lots of plowed and planted fields 😎👍
We get much better climb rates with this release. And no long rope to get tangled. We also step-tow and you can't with Rohan's setup
👍👍👍✌️✌️❤️❤️
Nice video
Many years ago, I took a full day's training course. For me, it was much more difficult and hard-work than I expected. Our lessons were climbing up the side of a mountain and running down, flying a few seconds then some rough landings. It really was a lot of fun even if we didn't get more than 20 feet off the ground.
Winch training is zero sweat . We even have a golf cart and a dolly to get you back to the starting point
LOL interesting editing choice at 11:14 with the suspenseful music.
awesome vid
Sad state of affairs when you try to buy something related to aircraft. Boats or any other recreational items how they try to jab you on things.
I had this problem many years ago with my Challenger 503. After many attempts of trying new fuel pumps, filters etc, it turned out to be the choke cables. The cables have nylon sleeves that expand more than the inner metal cable itself. As things start to warm up, the sleeves expand, i.e. get longer, thus pulling on the chokes partially. By the time you get back on the ground, everything has cooled off and the engine runs great again. Leave some slack in the choke cables, and it probably won't happen again.
Interesting and makes sense! I no longer have that engine as I put a 582 on. It happened 3 times to me at totally random times. Honestly I think it was a mechanical fuel pump issue as it happened on climb out no electric fuel pump on (I forgot) and I don’t think the fuel pump was ever replaced
Hey hey! Pretty cool looking runway in between canola. You might have to take me on a tour to these runways? Decided to leave the old Challenger 2 project in the shed for now and pulled the trigger on an airworthy Flightstar 2 with a Rotax bluehead.
Where are you located? I love flying with others so ya anytime let me know!
@@aerialambitions3066 A little south of you near Baden. Will get in touch when I get it ferried down to the farm!
Nice video with beautiful views!!
I can only hope some day to join up and formation fly, nice video!
hokey smokes the views cute capri pants
😂
Beautiful Flying and the area is nice. I need to get up to Canada and meet some challenger owners. quick question. what are the yellow plants that are in the fields? are all challenger trim handles in canada on the left side? down here ours is built on the right. I switched from the audio adapter to the gopro media mod and the audio it 10x better. I love formation flying have done it several times with my buddy in his champ and the hummel ultracruiser.
Hey man! The yellow is Canola. It blooms in the spring then goes green again. Not sure what you mean by trim handle on the left…I’ve never noticed that…just that it’s above and behind my head lol. I’ve seen your videos; keep them coming!
@@aerialambitions3066 yea the trim handle is on the right on US planes. The challenger we bought from Canada had the trim handle on the left like yours. Also recommend the third door option.
Where'd you get the red plug for your exhaust?
Came with the engine from John baker
That engine sucks. So fkng costly and the sound?? It’s outstanding. When fly low people calling the cops on you. … sucks. No way il get a total 2 cycles. It’s a grass trimmer
I don’t have any other options. Even if I get 4 rebuilds out of the engine it’s still cheaper then a rotax 4 stroke which I can’t use anyway because they are to heavy. I can only use approved engines by the manufacturer to keep it an advanced ultralight as well. Been working great for me:) love it!
This guy is either trying to provoke you or is just plain stupid. Ignore him.
Thanks for the feedback, do you still think it would be reliable enough for my duck boat?
F the noise...it's not that bad from 1000'. power to weight ratio of the 2 stroke is much better than a heavy ass 4 stroke. Ever ridden a 2 stroke dirt bike vs a 4 stroke?
Braap!
Hi Lambert, could we connect and have a chat? I live near Listowel, and im looking to buy a Challenger and thought it would be nice to talk with you about it.
Hey yes of course! Local! Love it. Look me up on Facebook and shoot me a message there. That work for you?
@@aerialambitions3066 will do.
Tough break (no pun intended). I had a tire on landing flip a stick into the prop, and the prop drove it through the bottom of my wing... on 1st flight. After I threw up installed a sea plane drain & touched up the paint. I was the only guy who noticed the extra sea plane drain on the right wing bottom. I know the original builder of your Challenger.
Crazy about that stick! That’s cool you know the builder:) hope he can see these videos. I’m grateful he built it!
@@aerialambitions3066 I forwarded the video link to the builder. It will make him smile to watch your Challenger fly
I doubt the problem was carb ice. A two stroke carb allows air to move in and out of the carb, the valves are just part of the cylinder. Warmed fuel and oil laden air is pushed out and then sucked in and then pushed out, more air goes in than out so carb ice doesn’t form in a two stroke carb.
I have to say I think I agree in this case. I’ve had an other one the same as this this past winter. Just doesn’t add up…I had the same scenario 3 times. The last time it happened was my last flight with the 503 (coincidence) My guess is mech. Fuel pump issue…(only happened with elec. pump off)
So always check all the bolts and screws on the engine make sure none are loose. bottom line....
When will you have this put back together? Ok see you on another video mate...
I remember talking to a guy at an airshow about pusher type aircraft he said one of the drawbacks was anything that came lose on a 2-stroke engine which was common would fly right in the prop.
Looking forward to more videos! Watching from the east coast, Shediac NB
very nice
love it!
How do you like the Challengers? I was going to buy one, great deal and the guy I was talking lessons from told me it would be a huge mistake. I am kicking myself now, it was a nice challenger with floats. Anyhow he said they are all over the place and your on the rudder all the time. I personally never was in one but I likely shoulda took his info with a grain of salt. He said they are way to small, I said well yes they are not planes you would take across the ocean but they should be fine around the Great Lakes. Any of your input would be greatly appreciated.
I love my Challenger! It’s the only plane I’ve flown (other then a Cessna once) I don’t know why everyone complains about rudder. Seems fine to me!! Flying the thing isn’t hard work. I’ve done 3 hours trips non stop quite easily. Your buddy is exaggerating…must be upset he doesn’t own one lol! I’ve flown with two ppl for hours in it and the space is fine.
Can't be any worse than a Cessna 152. Pretty cozy. But my flight instructor was pretty cute, so I really didn't mind 🤣 I believe the older Challengers like mine were a bit tighter to get into, or at least that's what I heard from those less vertically challenged pilots. Mind you I haven't flown mine yet...
Yes more video! Good job
Looking forward to your viewing your 582 installation video. Thank you for your kind comments!
I hear you're a Rotax pro, so you might be the guy to ask. I have an older Challenger 2 on amphibs I got many moons ago, that has sat in my shed since. It was converted from a 503 up to something other than a 582, that I can't quite recall. It's a Rotax liquid cooled twin, dual carb. Looks to be a 587 perhaps? It was claimed to have been freshly rebuilt (and now probably corroded) but needed a run in. What are your thoughts on something like this on an aircraft?
Great Video. Sounds like yall have some wicked winds up there. Greg Klemp and Mike Harrison are great guys and ship quick. I've chatted with John Baker and Bob Robertson several times and they too are awesome people. The challenger community regardless of where you live, I believe is very strong and one community that is willing to help each other and lend a hand when needed. Maybe you can make it to the Anniversary Flyin in Erie Illinois in August. Good luck and keep us posted.
Those are some familiar sights!
Where you out of? We should meet up. I live on 19 north end of belwood
Nice! You're pretty much in my backyard, loosely speaking. I've got a Challenger 2 that I'm wanting to pull out of storage. Interested to know what it cost to get Bill out?
Message me on Facebook…Lambert reinink I’m on the challenger groups
Nice flare & landing!
Now, that was an epic first...ice fishing from plane! 👌 👏
Awesome. I loved it.
hope u have fitted reinforcing wedge or massive thick washer 6mm or so on inside of wing attach fittings as per the mw mods ,,,cracks have develpoed across the hole resulting in fatalities please share with other challenger owners
Pretty sure anyone who ones s challenger knows about the roney bracket issues and the highlift kit to upgrade the brackets…not sure about a washer tho…do you have an install spec on this washer approved from quad city aircraft?
Looking forward to the install videos. My 503 is due for an overhaul and I'm thinking of upgrading as well.
