Some random crashes over the first two months of owning the truck for someone who asked…” is it tough?” I’ve only broke two wing mounts so I’d say yeah, it’s tough. When you consider the crashes not filmed and all the good jumps and bashing on top I think it’s a solid rig that lives to the exb name.

Arrma Kraton EXB AirTime 2 - extended version
I think the main reason it bends is from landing big jumps and the weight of the motor pull down. No idea why they designed a floating motor x
Beautifully explained. How you worded everything along with the visuals aloud my brain to actually understand it! Thank you!!
having a tough time getting my drive shaft out, one half compresses but the other half doesn't seem to wanna budge
I did 35° and it was perfect for my buddies 1/16 but too steep for his 1/8 monster. But it was fun and held up to the abuse!
Best tutorial on how to find angle on RUclips thank you. 6:50 that 45°angle looked perfect so thats what i did. Made 45° angle block put it in corner of rectangle plywood with clamp and then used my really thin plywood stapled to block then bent to find angle and length of ramp while remembering to leave a little extra of wood sticking out past tip so it could get closer to ground. Ramp turned out about a foot tall(as tall as my scrap wood would allow) and its perfect for my 1:12 scale wltoys 124017's and 124019's. I ran 2 strips of grip tape across so tires get a bit of extra grip right at launch as well...one right at top lip and one down about 8". Because i made mine smaller i got away with 1 cross support at the lip and 1 2x4 in the middle on the bottom. It turned out ultra light pinky finger can lift it. Also a friend with larger heavier truggy a 1:10 vkar bison hit it a buch and it survived.
I'm trying to figure out how to keep the plastic from becoming brittle in the cold weather
Thank you for this info. I was trying to figure out how much it really costs to get into the hobby. I always knew it was expensive, but good to know it's 3 to 4 x the original price over time.
Great video and great response to the critics.
Thanks!
Hands down, , best instructional video on RUclips that has ever been created, regardless of the subject matter. Thank you buddy, thank you for helping me plan out my next trip to Home Depot
Wow, glad you enjoyed it. Happy jumping!!!
Thanks! Great stuff.
You bet!
Just slammed my vorteks into a metal curb going 40mph, only damage was this exact situation, I’m going to make sure to add that screw once I fix it
Damn, thats a good advertisement for a vortex. Curbs + Rc cars usually = large repair bill.
I just used this plan to build one for myself. Hit it with a Traxxas Stampede and a Maxx for about 30 minutes. The main surface is already damn near destroyed from the Maxx body. Easy enough fix though, just needs significantly more horizontal 1x2s for support. I had about 3" between each and the middle portion is destroyed. Gonna basically have the 1x2s touching each other when I add more tomorrow. Particle board is nice and flexible, but definitely needs additional support.
Is your suspension set correctly? Sounds like the truck is bottoming out and smashing into the ramp. That or maybe the front guard is crashing into it? I go at least three years without replacing my surface.
What tip did you use in the compressor
It’s a plastic narrow cone shaped tip, about 1-1/2” long. The end slides into the hole on the grip and after about 1/4” in it seals tight to the grips with the cone shape wedging it in. Can be found on Amazon for $3.
How tall is ur ramp ?
Thanks for sharing these tips, it made our project upgrade a lot easier.
You bet! Enjoy
Love it. Had on in the 80's Plymouth uk. I loved the wheels. So much fun. Mines lost to history in a loft clearance long ago
39/39 in my outcast 8s is a blast 💥
I just cram a penny in the fuse box and it works fine. Fuses are like unicorns, they don't really have a place in this world. Nobody needs fuses or a fuse box, they're just a made-up product to spend money on and pretend that they're safer than just cramming pennies into fuse boxes. I've been doing it for years and have only burned down one car. Those numbers don't lie. One car in 15+ years? That's a 90% success rate with the penny method. Stop wasting money on fuses and cram a penny in there instead. I guarantee you will only be unhappy less than 10% of the time. Numbers don't fudge sickle.
Very nice and clear explanation of the topic and what is important. You explained it in simple form, good for newbies like me. The only thing that Im missing is maybe some basic tips or examples for e.g. universal oil thickness for different RC cars sizes which is nightmare for very beginners. Otherwise one of the best explanation videos Ice seen since I bought RC car. 👍
Thanks! There are just so many variables that it’s so hard to make a good recommendation. What do you want to do with the car, ur driving style, the powertrain you’re using, the gearing, etc. all influence what would be the best set up. I do think if you’re using the drivetrain supplied with the car, the manufacturers do a pretty good job of giving you a nice balanced baseline recommendation in the manual.
Just what I was looking for! Wanna build some ramps since the "premade" stuff is ridiculously priced. I'm sure prices are up, but still probably the cheapest and most efficient ramp build on a budget. Thanks! 👍
Just got back from Home Depot. Adjusted for inflation, I spent $65, but I'll have plenty of screws (I went with #10 x 1") and one 4 x 4 sheet left over for another build. I couldn't find any 4 x 4 panels, so got an 8 footer and cut it in half. I picked up a 1/2" x 5' piece of pex pipe to use to create the angle line for the ramp cuts🤙
Footage using my ramp that I built using your instructions. It's working great! ruclips.net/video/oaG_4QtE78U/видео.html
Glad it’s working. I actually thought inflation would be even worse as some people have put this near $90 at this point.
I like the double sided ramps but they don’t have the ski slope
That one support in the center is keen
Is this for 1/16 scale RWD?
I would definitely say you can use it for that. Might be a little oversized but that never hurts anything. This one Can definitely be used for up to 1/8th scale so 1/16th no problem. I’ve been grinding on this ramp with only one resurface for 7 years now. Mostly i jump a 1/8th scale kraton exb or 1/10th scale Arrma, losi, team associated vehicles.
1) Voltage drop is a really bad indicator. In an ideal world there will not be any drop at all. In the real world our batteries have internal resistance. This resistance causes voltage drop proportional to current. Different batteries can have different resistance, the same battery will degrade over time and internal resistance will change. It is really hard to compare apples to apples using this method. Best option to measure power(voltage + current). 2) To compare efficiency you need to know power consumption at THE SAME SPEED. E = mv^2. To speed up the car twice, we need four times more energy. To maintain this speed we also need more than twice more energy. Of course faster setup will consume more energy from the battery. But it tells NOTHING about which setup is more efficient. A more efficient setup will consume less power at the same speed.
my friend took my senton apart removing motor and rear diff and ive now got to put it back together and ive got a rubber ring that i dont know where it goes
Not many rubber gaskets on these cars, as rubber gaskets are good for only sealing things up. So, probably came out of the differential thats full of fluid. Been a long while since i worked on a blx diff but seems like there is a large gasket that rings the differential housing that seals when you put the two sides of the diff together. If its roughly matches the size of the diff housing thats probably your spot. Otherwise, if it’s smaller it is likely the ones that seal where the diff cups poke through the diff housing.
Sadly today may 2024 this is $200 crazy
Good lord thats insane. Inflation is out of control but for such basic building materials thats almost unimaginable. Im glad the ramp lasts a long time cause i certainly wouldn’t build another at those costs
@milehighspeedrc8412 ya the cheapest plywood I can find is $48 and that's just to cheap of a wood. The one that's $75-90 would do
@JesseBlum Man that's crazy talk. A 3/8" 4'×8' mdf board for sides cost like $25 (you need 1 - 4'×8') , the 1x2s are $2 for cheap furring boards(maybe buy 10 and go overboard on supports, so $20), and the Luan board is about $35. With a box of 1 inch screws, you're at like $85-$95 tops out the door. Yes its impossible to buy and build with these matetials for $45, but $200 is way off. Btw I just priced all of this at home depot and I live in Commufornia, where everything costs more, sales tax rates are criminal, and freedom aint free.
Great little tutorial for an easy build. My 11yr old son wants to build one for his Traxxas Sledge, and this will be perfect. Thanks for putting this video together.
Dang a sledge for an 11 year old. Lucky boy
@@rust1eronblitzrussia542 he is definitely a lucky kid. I wish I had what he does at my age. All we had was sticks we would try to set on fire in the woods.
Enjoy. Hope he has fun and doesn’t run the meter on parts cause even with a durable piece of kit like the sledge, jumping is hard on the wallet!!
Pro. Ty sir
Would 1/2" particle board work?
I’m 47 years old and received as a Christmas present in early 90s still need a speed controller and I’ll be on the road been in the box for about 20+ years almost the same situation looking forward to getting it going
Nice vintage specimen
Thanks for sharing...was a real nice video
Very clear explanation! 👍🏾 Ive watched many videos on this topic and after watching your video, I will stop. Thank you!
I have a Arma Mojave 4s so can I run a 17t to my spur gear? It comes with a 16t right now.
Of course. Go for it. But whether thats the right gearing or makes sense is up to what you are trying to do.
Thx man!
I just bought my first Arrma and after doing extensive research the problem is from the weight of the motor pulling down when landing hard on all fours. Now I've scavenged the net and have found a solution on Amazon. There's a motor brace that gets installed under the motor in order to prevent the downwards pulling motion. Thus not bending the motor mount
Yep, very common issue as well, and as you note, folks have come up with some creative solutions. Some folks have some good aftermarket 3d printed supports, I use an art gum eraser carved out with the shape of the motor. Once you install your support, and if you keep bashing hard, you may still get bending however. Thats what happened with me. The continued bend will be cause by the thrusting torque described here. With your support underneath and the screws shown here though, you should be able to send it without issues. 👍
acceleration for me meant how fast there is speed on the wheel and in high gear, the wheel began to turn very fast so I did not understand why in high gear there was written "I accelerate very slow it takes me a while to get up to speed" there I said "No" look how fast the wheel is turning, then I went back to the beginning, watched again from start, then concentrated on the leveller and then I understood that it rotates much more slower...so my conclusion is that only with the resistance of the bike sat on the ground, one could say in high gear that ""I accelerate very slowly and it takes me a while to get up to speed". Low gear = low high speed. High gear = high final speed. Like this I will remember it. Fantastic visual and understanding video.
Appreciate your video man. Helped me a lot with this second hand Typhon we got off marketplace
Glad it was helpful
Absolutely wrong, they do not mess correctly!
Should you incorporate your differential ratio into FDR?
The FDR is inclusive of the differential ratios.
Great video.
Music is to loud.
Awesome video. Have 2 typhons and a vortex in line on the bench. Doing all diffs and shocks for the first time. Wish I watched this 2 weeks ago. Just finished the vortex and removed the whole front and rear to get the diff out. Oh well. Will make the typhons easier. Thanks for making such a great video!
Glad it was helpful. Happy RC-ing
Thanks. Great explanation.
You're welcome!
I just got my first car, a Typhon and after first use (didn't even kill the battery), I am getting a loud clicking noise as if a gear or something similar is not meshing as it should and it started whining a bit just prior. Don't know why it happened, but it is and it was during second use this happened. Besides for noise, it still works but I won't run it. I have no idea what it is but waht was looking for a great video to be able to tear car apart and yet be able to get it back together.Your video and explanation is fantastic for tear down and getting it back together. Thank you.
Appreciated. I hope you can solve the concern on ur vehicle. Obviously a new car shouldn’t be giving you such issues. With these cars and the power they have it is best to try and identify and fix and not just “power through”. To identify just strategically remove parts along the drive train till you find it. For example, remove the center shaft and test. That will tell you if its front or back. Then you can remove axels and determine if its in the gear box or out near wheels. remove left vs right components etc… and eventually you’ll track it down. If you hit any snags be happy to help, just drop a line.
what pinion would be good with a 60 tooth spur?
Loved how you explained everything GREAT VIDEO. Thanks
Some great information here but trying to hear over the music was a less than pleasant experience. Like trying to have a conversation with the radio volume up to loud. I don’t know why RUclipsrs do this.
Omg I need this. Thank you
Spot on!😢
