Gameboy wifi Printer
I was asked to make a gameboy wifi printer for someone so I thought I would improve on the last attempt and release the files for it this time. What it does is let you print your photos from your gameboy camera then download them to your phone using your browser. More details can be found at the blog post below.

Someone asked me to see if I could do a gameboy macro tv out with just using the USB C Port for charging and power. After a lot of trial and error I found away to abuse the USB C standard. DS Lite Bluetooth

After adding Bluetooth to my iPod I thought I would try and find away to add Bluetooth to a DS Lite. It was quite tricky because I had to find away to spoof the headphones being in and out with the turning on and off of the Bluetooth dongle. So I built a pwnagotchi into a iPhone 13 case. Using a raspberry pi zero w 2 a 2.13" e ink screen a battery and powerbank board. It was a real challenge to know if it would even fit in the case and would work electrically but somehow I manged to pull it off. More details can be found at the blog post below. I've always liked fidget toys but I always thought they lacked LED's and electronics so I thought I would just make my own. I had a really nice clicky encoder and a 16 WS2812 LED's light ring. I wanted to control the WS2812 strip I put in my Gameboy macro so I turned to using cap touch like with the modern Gameboy screens use to control the colour pallet. I used a attiny85 a 2020 ws2812 LED strip in a 3d printed hinge bar and I put the cap touch sensor in the left side of the hinge out of the way. For more details please visit my blog post below. Battery less rumble cart

I designed a 3d printed shell that makes the Gameboy rumble cart as small as possible and also keeps the rumble functionally. The PCB taps into the the VCC and GND and PIN 26 of the MCB5 mapper chip of the cart and powers the vibrate motor. More info can be found at the blog post below. I added a LED flash to my gameboy camera to help with indoor/low light level photos. I designed a flex PCB to position the LED's and I used a capacitive touch chip (TTP223-BA6) and some copper tape to turn it on and off without having to have a switch. I've been getting into gameboy modding lately, I seen that HDR made a replacement PCB for the gameboy camera that let you flash custom roms to it. It gets better, You can actually have 2 roms flashed to the cart and switch between them with a switch. I plated probably those pogo pins all the way down the hole with gold and gold tin and previous to that wire wrap pins by hand. Not easy.
I couldnt buy your board i mounted mine, it requieres a hight level technique to solder but after 2 fails and a lot of burns on my hand i was able to solder it, I May have to say that i printed the pcb in 1.6mm and was really difficult to solder the charging port
hey facelesstech, theoretically it should be possible outputting stereo sound with 12pins right? i just read your blog post and not quite sure why you're unable to do that, was it because the solder point is too small or some other limitation?
@@babixillo I was originally going to use the D+ D- and one of the SBU1 A8 and SBU2 B8 pins but I couldn't get it to work so I just went with the D+ and D-. Your welcome to give it a go and try and get it working
@@facelesstech i see, it could be the cable doesnt connect those pins or the circuitry inside the cable messing with the signal? understanding type-c is too hard for me, so i think i'm going to hack the 3.5mm socket to accept trrs and send the av signal there so i can use trrs to rca cable. thanks for your answer!
Would A variation of this mod be possible with the ribbon cable only version of the TV out mod? In this way, both the left and right audio channels would be usable, and one could make a circuit board that could be easily fitted into a GBA macro. And optionally: would it be possible for the external circuit board to incorporate the gutted out charging port of the DS lite? It would be cool if for no other reason than nostalgia, but maybe also so that one doesn't have to get an additional cable for charging the DS lite and can just use the original charger?
@@michaelkindt3288 yeah the resistor ladder is easier/cheaper to source then the IC used in that mod, you would have to find somewhere to put the 3 RCA jacks in the shell. Yeah that would be possible to reuse the old port.
@@facelesstech-.-Something else I thought of is that if you made this compatible with the mod that makes the screen swapping buttons handled through the stylus slot, this could potentially be a TV on solution that doesn't require any modification to the case. The way that mod handles the buttons is not my ideal, but I feel like it would be cool for people who don't want to modify the case. I've also realized that the various versions of the TV altamont don't tend to re-implement the microphone. Since the microphone seems to be using the same ribbon cable as the top screen, I wonder if the TV out mod actually hijacks the microphone input in order to serve as an additional input to the DS lite. If this is the case, then I'm not entirely sure if it's possible to re-implement the microphone by incorporating it onto the circuit board. But if it were possible, that would of course be ideal. Sorry if I'm coming off as too needy or ambitious. I've had a DS light with A broken hinge for a while now, so when I learned about the TV out mod A week or so ago I naturally looked into potential ideal options for this mod. And so I've been doing a lot of theory crafting around this mod.
@@michaelkindt3288 the microphone isn't on the ribbon cable, it's attached to the ds through a cable that goes through the hinge so you could easily just put it into the lower case if you need to. So the guy that made that mod is currently working on a v4 version with TV out sp keep an eye out for it.

Does this work with the original battery or do you need a different one? I'm thinking of buying a new battery anyway for a broken DSi that I picked up because might as well if I'm refurbishing it. Great video btw, thank you!
@@Nigel5uk no it works with the original battery. It doesn't change anything about the way it charges, just the port.

@@Daryl0601 it could be possible but the usb c port would have to be very close to the edge of the board because of where the VCC pad is on the original 30 pin connector

Mine was a v5 and I managed to update to v8... still just turns on or off...
That's strange, must have the older hardware in it. I've seen people say they have got the v4 to work so there must be some cross over with the v4 and v5

Yeah need that one or it won't fit or line up with the old port. You might be able to put a USB C breakout board where the lanyard hole is.
I have a question, the LED strip isn't available for me, can i just use any with the same name? And do i need a connector or not?
You will need any Ws2812 strip that will fit. I just hard soldered mine on to save space.
Could you do it on one of the everdrive cards?
Yeah, all you would need to do is find a 5v source to tap into.

Probably not, the moved GBA port covers the ds cart slot pins, it would be a very tight fit.

The original Game Boy Printer was a thermal printer, like what store receipts use. You can get those in a module form that talk over serial, so it should be doable.

I know this is an older video, but what are your thoughts on leaving the SL resistor and creating an rca adapter using an ds mic headset and using the mic port for the video signal (pin6), allowing for stereo audio and video out through the headphone port. Also not sure if there would be interference with pin 6 but that trace is easy to cut if there is.
You probably could do but the ds lite mic cables are hard to get hold of and you would need to make a custom cable.
Very good project, I think USB C has enough PIN pins to achieve stereo sound.

I've seen people put the usb c port where the wrist strap hole is but not sure how you would mount it tho

Not sure if the capture cards for the 3ds work the same as this. And I don't think you can switch the screen ether.

Hi, so I want to do this mod but the only thing I see different that I can’t find is the 1k ohm resistor. I have regular one that you can get off Amazon with two legs but I just can’t seem to find a 4 prong resistor as used in the video, will a regular 2 legged resistor work? Edit: I’m in the US and I don’t like ordering from other services like Aliexpress
It's a 1k ohm resistor going into a solid state relay, you can use a single throw dual pole switch instead if you can fit it in somewhere

No you don't need to touch the headphone jack for this one.

Since dsi xl screens are compatible with ds lite, could you show us how to make a ds lite xl with gba slot! i.e. Using legit dsi xl shell and shove ds lite pcb inside it.
How is this possible? I didn't found a adapter to use a DSi or DSi XL screen with a DS Lite motherboard? 🤔

Can it still be used with the top screen attached despite it not going to display? I plan on using a swap screen mod and I just want tv out without having to take off the top screen.
No unfortunately the patch to the firmware makes the top screen have a purple hue to it.
