Late post from this past summer with Captain Takasane jumping on board to chase the ahis that were running around outside the windmills. We get in the area as the bite starts to taper but still see boats pulling fish over their gunnels. Its a long morning mowing the lawn when I finally tell Captain Takasane lets change out both riggers, need to do something different....

Late post from early July. A couple days off the bite again but we decide to run anyway....fish were still close so we didn't have to buck much seas...was a quiet morning passing boats going up and down...as we head down toward Kahana our center finally gets hit with the port rigger next!..."double hanapaa!!!"...the fire drills begin!???

Hearing that a couple tuna came up the prior day, Sheila and I try our luck hopefully at least get some aku to dry. Was a beautiful morning and we were able to make good time on the run out. We see a big pile running down but decide to pass as two boats are already chasing it. The birds start to slow and spread out so we decide to set lines as the area is looking good!...

Very late upload...but Brother Kenneth and I committed to try and catch something for our favorite girl Ashley and her graduation party. Bro Ken brought the good luck on a blind strike day!!! We both are wishing you Ashley lots of happy and great college memories! :O)

Was a fun solo day running with two other captains, especially when they catch too! Good going Capt Halas and Capt Sumida! After Capt Sumida took a strike up in the 197's, I had a feeling it was going to be a great day...could have used some girl power again! :O)...

Was fortunate to get Captain Brian on board for a day of fishing. Headed down toward Kahuku hoping to run something over, after a morning of snagging a couple large we make our way back toward home and as I'm thinking about tomorrow the ctr gets slammed and the corner bends over!!!....

This was Kaneohe back in the day with the ocean rolling, skies rainy and the ahi's up and down on the 1000. The piles looked like large akus but the bend of the pole and scream of the reels said otherwise.

Heard the large were biting and some YF around the large so headed out. Chased the first large pile 20 degrees before I could get in, luckily they stopped so I could snag a few. Decided to head back up in hopes of something a little bigger. Well, it got bigger AND bigger!!!

Nice water but the bite had slowed, decide to head down hoping for the best. No birds, no marks, no fishy feel...then the center rigger gets slammed!!! Also got torpedoed three times on the way home :O)

No signs of the yellowfin so decide to put out a 9" Slant Matsu on the corner...as you would think, we started fencing...then we drag one pole on the way in and right before the head buoy it bends over and pulls line! btw, this is a video on how NOT to leader a longnose, hahaha!

On "Lake Kaneohe", a rare occasion especially with the unexpected. I could have used some "Girl Power" (Sheila/Jill) this day! Wanted to find some aku but dog poop has it, right place right area. Once in a life time...fortunate and grateful to have an awesome "backyard"...and great friends to help out!

My girlfriend Sheila's daughter Jill, caught her first ahi in some rough Kaneohe water; it was a big one at 211 lbs! She cranked, cranked, cranked :O), stuck it with the .44 cal, gaffed and pulled it over the gunnel! And it bit the lure she chose! She's a real fishing trooper!!!

Now I'm from Minnesota and we don't have big fish like that but I'm a muskie fisherman and big ones give you a great fight. I love watching how you handled and got those fish in by yourself.
As a fellow musky angler I can assure you that musky don't give a "great fight" compared to any saltwater pelagic species, pound per pound or otherwise Their lack of a rigid, sickle shaped tail puts them at an anatomical disadvantage with regards to power output. I love the fish of 10000 casts but fresh and salt are two different worlds when it comes to strength, just like how musky are much more wary than any pelagic.

Aloha, I have a question on your gaff with the rope- do you have loops to go on the bill after the gaff is set? How is that set up? Mahalo again for the videos, keeps me going when I catch a tan and no fish lol.....
The rope does not have loops, what i do is make half hitches which tighten around the bill when it’s pulled. Get flat nylon type rather than round (3 strand) rope as the bill will stick to it like Velcro 👍 once u half hitch it, it will not pull off even if the marlin starts to shake its head. Ah old trailer winch strap works well too! Thanks for watching again!

Jacob Jorgenson this past season cause of covid we were getting up to $9.00/lb! Normal season’s prices at the local fish auction is about $3/lb. I’ve been cutting and selling quarters for $5:lb
@@WindsAbove so Covid means there are fewer fishing so more demand? So the lack of tourist have no affected you? Is there a season for Tuna fishing in Hawaii?
Jacob Jorgenson covid shut down the commercial tuna industry thru no tourism so local fishermen were supplying the large demand hence limited supply drive prices up. Takes commercial fleets apprx 3 weeks to land Tinna here at our Honolulu fish auction, primarily travel time.
