    I shoot OM system and for sure it is not as good as your own set up. But I think a couple of points are important when it comes to this comparison. 1. You mention that the entire OM setup is the same price as the Canon R5 alone. What is more is that the lens is 15k USD at my last check. Correct me if I saw the wrong lens. 2. The weight is significantly different. Without a tripod carrying 5+ kg is really tough for most people. My point is that since 99% of us on RUclips are amateurs who will never blow our pictures up on a big print and sell them, then the OM system is more than enough for what we need. And it is amazing that this OM setup is even comparable to the Canon setup when you factor in the price :)

    • @TJPhotography
      @TJPhotography 19 дней назад

      1. OM1 + Olympus 300mm f4, the retail price in Norway 2 years ago was around 450USD. The retail for the Canon r5 at the same time was around 480 USD. 2. I commented on the weight, and how much lighter the OM combo is. Don't feel like I need to mention every single detail. There are loads of videos on RUclips that cover the technical specs and differences. This is not a full review, it was mostly to check new bird AI AF on the OM system and compare it against the Canon R5. Rest was just additional stuff I felt was worth bringing up while making the video. The reason why I compared these two brands, was because I owned the R5, and my father owned the OM1.

    Could I ask you in some of important decision? Would you switch Sony A7-IV and 200-600 f6.3, to a OM-1 150-400 tc? I barely record videos, I lack of focal range, though I can say videos are really high quality and I like colours from the camera. Previously I was using A6400, and I can say I thought about A6700, but from a long time I convince myself into OM-1 mark II and 150-400 tc + additional x1.4 TC/x2.0 TC. I thought also about your new equipment in the past, but I think the combination costs would be much higher, than my expectations. I don't want to invest into 600 mm f6.3 from Nikon or 400 mm f4.5 so I would be interested only about 800 mm f6.3 base + x1.4 TC.. Also worth to notice, I was upset on high iso from A6400, but let's say it's old camera, I expect OM-1 mark II to be much better at 6400 / 8000 max ISO (no more is acceptable for myself). I don't know if switching to OM-1 mark II and 150-400 would be from your perspective now a downgrade or upgrade? I love to hike while doing photography. Sitting in one place is definitely not for me (sure, I can sit for 15-20 minutes and wait, but lets be honest long hours are not my destination). I also take into consideration a weathersealing, in which OM System shines, but I don't think something like Z8 + 800 mm f6.3 would be damaged by more than light rain.. Lastly, I like mornings and sunsets. The combination of these is so hard for me to say, but you were there and there. If you could help, thank you in advance! 🙏🙏

      Hi, thank you for reaching out. Camera choices these days, I think, is more up to what you like, and feel comfy with using. All brands are good, and some shine more then others in spesific genres. Saying that, and reading ur comment, I think still Sony A7 iv is the best camera for ur interest. If you didnt like the noise from A6400, then you wont like the iso noise from MFT-cameras. And Z8+800mm is a good choice, its a bigger and better camera, and the lens is unqiue compared to other brands, but the change as a big pricetag. So I think still Sony a7iv is a great camera, good MP sensor, with really good low-light performence. So rather use the money on a good Sony pro lens, then change system. But this is just my opinion from reading ur comment. If u want to change system, i think you will not regret that either, just keep in mind that the different brands have different strengths in certain fields.

    • @pentagramyt417
      @pentagramyt417 Месяц назад

      @@TJPhotography Something deeply says "don't change system". I don't shoot wildlife for a month to know today there will be not much difference, but there is a point of view like yours, when you could at least hold the gear to feel if it's comfortable, when you got hours or days to try it out. I know weaknesses of A6400, but I expect newer sensors to be better at the same noise performance. Minimaly as there is physics behind that, but probably will be visible (let's say OM-1 vs EM-1 mark III, that's for me a very visible and noticible differnce at ISO 6400). You consider not changing the system, I also though about 300 mm f2.8 GM, in which I could have 3 different options for 3 different situations, but in all of that, I deeply know I need those "mm" in some situations. I could dive A6700 + 300 mm gm + 2x TC and stay at 900 mm f5.6 (f8.0 dof) and 26 mpx, but then the problem is sensor, I would like to have a stacked sensor. I don't expect this from A7-V, I really don't. Sony delays those "features" for the flagship and A9 models, as same as "pre-capture". MAYBE this thing will be in A7-V as they want to increase fps, so.. but surely not a stacked sensor yet in entry level cameras. The choice is so hard, and expensive, but yeah.. I am not like whining about A7-IV and 200-600, but it is really front heavy on the wrists, it's uncomfortable lens, taking all of fun, and limiting me by focal range. Other than that it's super camera, but as I said, having something like pre-capture, great fps burs and maybe focus bracketing option, would be ideal for me, and in some way only OM-1 is completed (except high megapixels count, and much worse video capabilities). Really hard choice. I wish someone in area would have it to test and even hold in hands, but it's rather hard. PS: Overall I am really happy of A7-IV but it's uncompleted camera, maybe changing on A7-V would make me finally at least in 80% completed.

    ALL mirrorless cameras struggle with racking focus inwards, they are fast only outwards. Ryan Mense (Sony guy) has a workaround where he points the camera at the foreground as he walks, to prevent the camera from auto sleep and so that the focus is always racking out (fastest) for a bird.

    Wish we had the dipper over here, very nice images. The G9 was my first m4/3 camera. I liked it, but it had faults. I liked the power switch which allowed one activation. The hair trigger shutter button and battery grip was a royal pain. The focus method (depth from defocus or whatever it was) was not so good. I did capture a number of great images with the camera. I am not a fan boy and will speak out faults of a system even when I own it. For me the BSI sensor 20.2MP of the OM System is better than the 25MP non-BSI of the Panasonic. I take some short videos and would like better focus, but 98% of my work is photography. Sad that other brand of m4/3 lenses don't behave well on the camera bodies. Well done and great images. I have had the 150-400 for almost a year now. Still in sticker shock, but no regrets. It is one amazing lens. I am a built person and I can carry it with the OM-1 II easily. I use a monopod when I am stationary and waiting for action, otherwise I walk around without issues. Have used the MC-14 in the past and still great images. Just got the MC-20 and still very impressed with the quality. Having a zoom lens is much more versatile and the close focus distance works great for certain subject. I personally would not trade my setup for a full frame setup. I hear a fair bit of hate and such for the lens. Funny when people are shown an image and very impressed with the image. Then their face changes when they are told that it was taken with m4/3 system and/or the 150-400mm lens. Which lens covering is on the lens?

Hopefully OM System will eventually make a much better camera (unfortunately the OM-1 Mark 2 is not the one with only marginal improvements) to match the video features of G9 Mark 2 and autofocus of recent Canon, Sony and Nikon cameras.

    Love your videos and images. I also have the 150-400 mm f4.5 lens for almost 2 years (primarily doing bird photography) and really fall in love with it. This lens is the reason why I am staying with the OM System. I wish we would have a bit better matching camera for this amazing lens. I also have the OM-1 Mark 2 and unfortunately there is minimal improvement in the autofocus (it is mostly improved for stationary birds, but not much for birds in flight with complex backgrounds) and no change in the video features (maybe the autofocus is a bet stickier, but hard to tell since I am not doing too much videos), which is quite disappointing. I wish they would add the video features from G9Mark 2 to this camera.

      thank you, yes its an amazing lens, and I agree its now the cameras that are lacking or falling behind. I wish OM would implement 120fps 4k video, and better AF for video as well :)

    what beautiful images. What post-processing did you do? Because the photos don't come out of the camera that way. anyway, they are beautiful, video footage and photos. my compliments for that.👍👏

    I hate to say it...but a 300mm/4.5 is considered very slow. And since m4/3 CAN NOT make 1/1 camera (many called it "full frame") & then why new owner just doesn't say 300-800/4.5? All m4/3 companies need to stop scamming buyers with small number (1/2#) when it is really double that #.

      They dont say it's 300-800 beacause it's not. The "mm" number is a physical element of the lens, not the field of view. Its the distance from the sensor to the centre of the focal point. To say it's a 300-800 would be lying, its 150-400 on a camera with a tighter crop than a comparable full frame. Full frame isn't 1/1, it is not the standard that all photography formats are based off, its only other name is a 35mm and its actually a small format for photography, with medium format 6x7 or 6x9 being much bigger and large format leagues beyond that. If you're using a medium format system as many pros were back in the 90s, the 35mm or "full frame" was the crop camera... If you can't work out the conversion for the lenses you use on your chosen system, thats on you, not on the lens manufacturer.

      They are allowing for the crop factor that you get with full frame no such luxury with micro 4/3 so they name it right. 👍

    So Norway... I've stopped watching this video part-way through. Why? Because I'm going to wait for my girl to finish work so we can what it together. She's not a photographer, but she's going to love that 'review' segment early on (we both have great taste☺). Other than that - Lkd & Subd and looking forward to rummaging through your content. All the best from a cabin in a swamp in a rainforest in New Zealand.
