A little test of my Venev dual sided diamond stone in #220 and #700 grit. I must say that I was very pleasantly surprised by this stone. It is an excellent one stone option for your sharpening needs!

My tried and tested bushcraft tools.
These are my tried and tested bushcraft tools that I've used for about 30-35 years. In that time there has been very little changes to my tools. I have had one more saw of the same type and I have used one other axe. I have used these when hunting, fishing, canoeing, camping, hiking etc. Contact me at: norwegiantinkerer@gmail.com Some channels to check out: BigRedEDC: ruclips.net/channel/UCm7s....

Greetings from Minnesota USA! Many of your kinfolk here!
Greatings. I have heard that quite a lot of Norwegians emigrated to the upper midwest. Beautiful country! 🇳🇴🇺🇸
@@norwegiantinkerer yes. Many Norwegians and Swedes as well. Stay well my friend!
@kayla1245768 You to.
Vakkert! Hvor er dette? Hilsner fra Vestlandet/Nordhordland😊
@pete_outside9915 Dette er i Nes kommune i Akershus.
I love it, very traditional setup. I think one of the best ways to keep our culture alive is through our tools. I especially like that old helle viking.
Thank you.👊🏻 Much appreciated!
Takk for tilbakemelding.
Veldig bra jobb, kompis!
Nicely done!
Thanks.👊
Hi! Were did you buy this stone from?
I got it at originalekniver.no www.originalekniver.no/produkt/diamant-slipestein-220-700-venev/ But they are sold out at the moment.
I have the Russel Green River equivalent. It is very similar. It has no jimping but an index choil, five pins and fileworked hatching on the flats of the handle scales. It has a 6" blade but given the choil the cutting edge will be about the same length as on your knife.
That’s a nice, classic looking knife. I like it a lot. Also, excellent work on the sheathes! I love the look of the first one you made, but I agree that the second one fits the style of the knife better.
Thanks. There's something about the simple but functional construction of the knife that fascinates me. You can also see the similarities with Horace Kepharts famous knife. Thank you for watching, Paul.👍🏻
That was really enjoyable. Nice work! 👍🏻
Thank you very much, brother!👊🏻
They are still made in Sheffield
Love the leather work both are beautiful.
Thank you.👊🏻
It is a nice copy of the Greenriver knife. The fact they were still using brass pins is nice. Sheffeild steel use to be as popular as Soligen is now. The strap on the sheath has been replaced as the rivit is incorrect. I would guess it as a 1940s model because of the steel and and sheath design. Likely made in the late 40s for the US market as a "Hollywood " movie movie crowd buyer. That doesn't mean they were not sold in other countries for the same reason. Doesn't mean it is inferior either. You will find it handy. Track of the Wolf is a great Green River but in carbon steel. They are an inexpensive but quality blade especially their kits.
Thank you very much for the information! Much appreciated.👍🏻
Loved the video. Loved your collection of actually used bush craft items.i subbed and liked. Also I like that certina you were spotting also. 👍
A solid basic set. No frills. No extra gizmos. I spent a lot of years and $$ on a career of military blades. Now I’m reverting to what various blade centric cultures use to live. Not survive.
I love the Viking knife made by Helle Norvay …
I am half Norwegian. My mother was born in Molde. I have two Helle knives. They are of high quality and beauty. I also have several Finnish puukkos. Scandinavian knives are the best. Thanks 🎸🔪
Ive got a marttiini lapp 250, i can believe sharpness like it exists when i got it i use the leather strop and a bit of toothpaste and, boy i cant describe it i can shave arm hair and not hear it or feel it! It just pushes the hair like it just sitting there
do you use toothpaste as polishing/stroppinng compound?
@@ferdblu1946 yea i used to strop with toothpaste on a leather belt, but i have stropping compound now, both work, the compound works a bit quicker
I love how you admire the strop. It is nice. I made one with top rated cow leather mounted on rosewood. I look at it every day 😊
I was the 100th👍 congrats my fellow bushcrafter.
Thank you very much!👊🏻
Bra jobba 👌
At last a real professional! Your basic set of tools is the only one that all the professional guides, who accompanied me in my long life (I'm 84 years old) of trekking and hunting carried in Europe, USA and Africa. Of course it's my personal kit since I was a boy scout, unfortunately too many years ago! Moreover this kit with folding saw, pukkos and axe is LEGAL to carry along in every part of world while bowie knives are forbidden or at least frown nearly every where. My compliments! According to my personal experience you are a serious outdoorsman!
My almost 20 years old Stroemeng KS9 is still going strong. Never do stupid batoning, even Sami people didn‘t do that but were butchering and such. My food prep knive is an Enzo Elver. Both are my companions for gentle trampings years and years…
I use a Saga Siglar as my main knife, had it for a few years now - brilliant!. Is yours the original release? I believe Helle stopped making them for a time, while the bigger 'Viking' took over. I got one when they re-released them, as I prefer a shorter blade. Bloody glad I did - I think they've stopped making them again! Glad to see it's stood the test of time! Cheers!
My Saga siglar is one from the original release. It's a great knife, and the balance is better than in the Viking, I feel.👍
That is a very fine looking set of tools. I have very reliable but not so good looking knives, the terävä skrama and jääkäripuukko. I buyed them bcs they are good quality but at a low cost. But i have to admit, those traditional tools look way better...
Terävä makes great knives! I really want the Skrama 240. 👍
@@norwegiantinkerer, it's a beast. And almost indestructable, if you don't do really silly things with that knife.
good kit! greetings from Ukraine!
How old is that Sami knife? Looks like it has some stories to tell! I just received the same knife for Christmas and look forward to giving it as much time afield as you have yours.
That knife is a little over 30 years old. It's a great tool which I'm not afraid of using for chopping and batoning.👍 remember to squeeze the sheath to make it a bit wider when taking the knife out and inn! It's easy to cut the sheath if you're not careful.👍
People often forget the classics when reinventing the tool! The age old designs often outperform the "new" and cost less as well, well except for the Gransfors but there are good axes available in that size for cheaper cost.
Absolutely. These tools have been fine tuned over hundreds of years. There's a reason why they are the way they are. Thank you for commenting.👊🏻
Thanks, interesting story
Since when do Norwegians measure things in inches?
Most of my friends in the knife community are from the US, so it feels natural to use inches.
great!
What was that yellow paste you used?
It is a 3 micron diamond paste. I got it trough a friend in the states. It may be from chefknivestogo. I know they have a good selection of sprays and pastes.👍 Sorry I can't remember exactly, because I got it several years ago.
@@norwegiantinkerer Cool, thank you. I've ordered stones from chefknives to go, will check it out.
Looking good! It’s obvious that you’re very comfortable freehanding. I wish I was that smooth and quick. Glad to see you back to making videos again.
Thank you, brother. 👊
Very nice Brother
Thanks, brother.
Have you tried balsa wood as a strop?
No I haven’t, lately I’ve mostly been stropping on my Tormeks. It’s easier and faster. 👍🏻
Heat gun and cleaning rag also works great.
Thanks, I didn’t know that. 👍🏻
Is that alcohol? Liquid?
Yes, it is isopropyl alcohol.
Wow! That works fast! Got to get me a big eraser! Thanks for this!
Worked way better than I thought it would. 👍
Definately a fine improvement 👏🏻☺💪🏻🙏🏻
Thank you, sir! 👊
Great looking mod, I’d definitely buy it if it were produced like that.
Thanks. It makes it a totally different knife. 👍 Thank you for watching! 👊
Those are some great tools! I love all of the tradition in them also. Sometimes, if something has been working well for a very long time, there’s good reason to keep using it. Newer designs aren’t always better. That big Sami-style knife is really cool! I’ve never seen one before. It makes a ton of sense and sounds really versatile. Thanks for sharing.
The sami knife is a knife with very long history and is virtually unchanged over the years. Fun fact about the bras on the handle: The brass is a sacred metal to the Sami, and the metal protects the holder against evil spirits. Brass also stops blood, removes boils and pains when you hold the metal against the skin. 👍 Thank you for watching, brother! 👊
Norwegian tinkerer Very cool! Thanks for passing that along as well. 👍🏻
A good folding saw is a must!! That is a good looking axe! That is a serious knife and I love the sheath!! The smaller knife looks pretty cool as well! really like the handle on it!! Thanks for sharing brother!!
They are great tools for the job. Thank you for watching, brother! 👊
Can’t go wrong with the Bahco folding saw. Must-have tool.
It's a great quality saw! 👍
It is a great saw. I was able to fix it but my side button broke on me and made me wonder why a button would be made of plastic and not metal. It gets pressed over and over again and it eventually created a weak point. Super glue did the trick and all is fixed now
Didn’t know you had a YT channel buddy! Subbed!
Thank you very much, brother!
Zombie Tools Reaver Cleaver neste? ;)
LOL! I think I'll stick to smaller tools for now. 👍 Thank you for watching!
Love the mod on the Ganzo!! You make those stones do magic brother!! Thanks for sharing!!
Thank you very much, brother! 👊
Great job modding that Ganzo! That’s 1000% better than before. I love watching your sharpening videos. You have nice technique on the stones. It’s obvious you’ve done that a few times before. 😉 Also, you about gave me a heart attack when you fumbled the first stone in the beginning of the video! I thought for sure it was going to drop and crack. It was like slow motion. “Nooooooooooo!!!!”
Thank you very much! 👊 Yeah, I saw that too, but not until I watched it afterwards. I would really hate it if I broke one of the stones. I really appreciate you taking the time to watch, brother! 👍
Wow, great modification. Looks fantastic.
Thank you very much! 👊
I use a gum eraser for cleaning my diamond plates and ceramic hones, add another use for it.
Thank you for your input, John! I will keep that in mind for later. 👍
Thanks for the Gum Eraser Tip . I have been using magic eraser but going to try the gum eraser.
