This is How Much House You Can Get On a $71,000 Salary in Canada
If you're with the Canadian armed forces who will pick up the tab, happen to be a tech multi-millionsire, or had purchased a home forty years ago, Ottawa may be for you. If not, the financial and social costs will sink you. Political correctness is off the Richter scale. Superficiality, envy, and hypocrisy are the norm. Speaking from experience, Ottawa is best to be avoided unless you're passing through and someone with well lined pockets is footing the bill.
Yeah... unfortunately these major cities become way out of reach for many people 👎
I live in Ottawa but cost of living in Gatineau is lower. Gatineau is the other side of the river. If you love learning a language even with a basic level move to Gatineau. The house prices can be a low as 350k.
Appreciate the insight and thanks for watching!
Ottawa is cold ? come here to Saskatoon and you will see cold lol
Have never lived in Saskatoon, but have definately heard about your cold winters, Think I'll stay away 😉
My top reason for not moving there would be that I don't want to be neighbors with Justin.
hahaha..... Yeah, I'm with you on that one!
Job market is tough. Less crime. Dating scene is horrible. Lot of social events that can keep you engaged. Decent but expensive restaurant scene especially if you want to explore middle eastern cuisine. Housing is ridiculously expensive whether you are renting or owning. Public transit is not reliable. Great place to raise a family if you have a high income. Biking trails are well designed.
Agreed....
I moved to Ottawa in 2018 mainly for college, and ever since then I've slowly started really HATING this city. I'm originally from New Brunswick, and the first thing that I've notice is the people. Ottawans for some strange reason act like the most cold hearted, smug, and pretentious people you'll ever meet. With this really weird "clique" mentality that I just can't describe. You really have to live here to experience it. Public transportation here is a joke. When they're on-time, they're packed. When its off peak hours, they're late. And you can get all this for the low low price of.......128$. Winter? Its really not that bad.
Appreciate you sharing even though that's unfortunate to hear.
Canadians are stupid for electing jagmeet and justin.
The only thing I liked about Ottawa was Petrie Island. It is a beautiful place.
Never been there. Though I just checked it out on google maps. Looks really nice, thanks for sharing!
Became super expensive. No night life. Everything is expensive. The rest, you are spot on. Cold wasn't a big factor in the last 2 years. Public transport sucks especially in winter, and is super expensive!!
At least Ottawa has the LRT which is a world class rapid transit system.
Seems to be a common theme in many of the major cities in Canada. 😞
@@Imonetone World class? LOL. Have you been to Tokyo, Shanghai, Seoul, Singapore? THAT'S THE WORLD CLASS. You step outside, 5 minutes away, you're on the train. Having to drive to the train thats 10-15 minutes away is not world class.
Cost of living is just too high...end of story.
Yeah... you got that right!
Don't trust the public transit in Ottawa. Get a car.
Agreed...
The way things are going now, I wouldn't move to Canada, period! Many immigrants are leaving Canada after 2 or 3 years. No jobs, no homes, high cost of living,...
Yeah..... Canada needs help.
HHIHi Richard great channel! I am thinking about going back to Canada, which city you recommend the most?
Appreciate the words Jake... Lot's of great cities, just depends what you're wanting out of a city and unfortunately, what you can afford. What's making you want to come back?
If you have a job that pays good the prairie province's of Canada are not friendly for the people. Expensive to live. King Charles doesn't know Canada is not Africa.
haha yeah..... he probably doesn't know much 😂
People don't know how much energy it takes to keep people alive 8 months of cold 4 months can be cold rainy season so people come and leave it is not cheap it's expensive people leave
It definitely adds up... Thanks for sharing your experience.
Absolute NONSENSE !!!
👍
I am absolutely amazed by the stunning video you shared. The way your real estate business blends beauty with innovation is truly remarkable. The homes you design are not only visually captivating but also incorporate the latest in modern technology, making them stand out in every way. Thank you so much for sharing these incredible videos with us - they really showcase the exceptional work you're doing!" This version adds more praise and further highlights the value of their work

@@RichardEnsing - Thank you so much for reading my comments. I watch every video you make on your channel
I live in a townhouse and i'm fine
Thanks great to hear and appreciate you sharing!
These are issues with condo properties, not freehold properties. Misleading title.
As most townhome developments are stratified, you can and will have these problems. Very similar to condos. So I would disagree with you on that. Now you can have townhomes that are called rowhomes where you'll have a very small monthly fee or sometimes nothing at all. Then its the homeowners to decide when repairs get done, like the roof or siding.
I have seen many freehold townhomes on the market, they are not rare. You also admit that not all townhomes are stratified. So to say NEVER buy a townhome is in fact misleading. I agree with you on the issues with condo townhomes but to use a blanket statement like that is just false.
Overall, lots of these issues come down to how the builder approaches quality. The process is transparent and clear as long the builder is reputable, and the buyer reviews the strata documentation. Stay clear from property managers with bad reputation. Duplexes are often a more feasible solution.
I agree... you got to do your homework. Get a sense of the builders quality, see how the strata is run so you know what you are getting into. As for duplex's, I'm a huge fan....... Appreciate the input!
Assume this is about condo townhouses? What’s your opinion on freehold townhouses with minimum POTL fees?
It is similar to condos where you will have a strata managing the property and doing the repairs/maintenance. POTL or Rowhomes as they call it sometimes are better than stratified townhomes in my opinion. As for the most part you get to decide when renovations or repairs happen and your not paying as big of a strata fee. Truly Freehold properties are the best, but with prices of properties these days, everyone in most cases are forced to buy strata properties. So the biggest thing is to make sure you review all the documents and get a sense of how the strata is run. Some strata's are more pro-active and some are re-active. So doing your home work is necessary.
Me and my Fiancè are currently living in Winnipeg, MB and we are getting married here in Winnipeg on August 2025. We are planning to move to Vancouver a month or two after the wedding. Which side of Vancouver is the best place for us to start and put some roots down? We’re looking into renting first (maybe for the first 2-3years). Currently Burnaby is #1 on our list since my Fiancè’s other office is located in Burnaby which she can easily transfer to. #2 would be Richmond or Surrey. Love your content by the way!
First off.... early congrats on getting married next year, that's awesome! Also, appreciate the feedback and thanks for watching. As for where to live in Vancouver, Burnaby is great. Port Coquitlam / Coquitlam are great to, little more space.... scenic.... Personally I like living fairly close to work, as I'm not a fan of commuting and traffic in Vancouver can be frustrating at times. Great thing about renting, you can try a few places prior to setting some real roots and get a feel for what you both like most. So don't be afraid to switch it up, until you find an area you like most!
People underestimate just how long and brutal Canadian winters can be and how much of it will affect your life. Imagine 6 months of winter for the rest of your life. That's HALF OF YOUR LIFE!
Oh totally... You definitely need to enjoy it or be willing to accept those facts. Otherwise it wont be for you!
Crime is mostly drug and gang related and doesn't effect the general public much. Are you frickin kidding ? You can't leave a frickin coffee cup in your yard overnight without it being stolen. Catalytic converter theft has fallen out of the news lately, but it's worse than ever. This city has turned into a complete crap hole.
That's unfortunate, I know everyone's experience is always a little different.
I lived in Vancouver in the 70s and it was tolerable. Now i dont even want to visit it.
Yeah, I can only imagine what that would of looked like back then.
@RichardEnsing actually it was vibrant and safe, rents were cheap, I could buy a weeks full of groceries for about $25. Work was abundant, Main and Hastings were empty in the evening (once on a Saturday night I walked there and the streets were empty except for one drunk logger who was staggering down the street, probably on leave from his camp job) my neighbours were selling their small house on 41st off of main for 40Gs, houses in Arbutus were going for 60Gs. Lots of small mom and pop Chinese Grocery stores that sold produce outside of their store. It was a down to earth fun place to explore. I remember in the hastings and main areas if we walked down one dark alley there were a couple of hidden Chinese tiny restaurants, called the green door and another called the red door. Their food was cheap and we felt safe walking there. No one lived in the alley.
I lived in Edmonton for 14 year's, pre COVID, and it was ok except for the taxes
Taxes are always the problem unfortunately
Should do research before you move there. Don’t like Calgary, Edmonton is worse and your 4 hours to the mountains.
Agreed!
The crack heads add a nice touch to the city
I find it’s very hip to sh*t on Vancouver nowadays lol. I moved away 2.5 years ago and now I’m trying desperately to move back to Vancouver. After living in the snow desert aka Calgary and also travelling around the globe quite a bit I think Vancouver is the best city in the world. Sooner or later you learn every place has issues.
This is definitely true, as every city has problems. It's just what you are willing to live with.
half of your claims are false dude.
👍
moved here from world's "best city to live" - YVR to Edmonton 15 years ago. Not a single regret. a city is what its people make of it. Nothing else matters to me more than that. Even though there are many braindead progressive wannabe people living here, but there are only more of them living close to city centre. Most of the people I've come across over the years have been much much kinder and more welcoming than those fake nasty libtards in BC. I could not have raised my girls so well without Edmonton's generousity and humbleness, for which I am forever grateful.
here is a video idea...try your own format..rather than copy. Regret a move to a City you are trying to sell Real Estate? so old and tired approach...
If it aight broke, don't fix it! 😉
Id like to point out that most ppl. not using a signal light have out of province plates
haha, yeah..... I feel you on that one!
Great hockey team, great people, winter would be hard to get used too. thanks for sharing.
Yes, yes & yes. Thank you for watching!
Don’t do it - it’s trash
Yeah... I've heard the same thing
Just moved out of Toronto this week! So funny how this video popped up😂 but yes all these reason plus more is why I moved out of that crummy hole.
haha, I bet that would of been funny😂. Where you move to? hopefully better spot 👍
Haha, world-class dining. Coming from a city with a fantastic restaurant culture and very tasty food, I can tell you that the Toronto dining experience is a joke. Service has about as much personality as the city as a whole (none) and the food is dull and uninspiring. Very rarely did it leave my tastebuds wanting more. Ther is nothing that got me excited about the whole scene with the exception of 1 steakhouse in York Region, and Mandarin restaurant which at least provides excellent value for avg North American Chinese food. Pizza Pizza which is the major pizza chain is red paint on a piece of cardboard with some cheese thrown on top. Even the fancy steakhouses are mediocre. Biftheque, a MOntreal steakhouse that closed down a few decades ago, always served the juciest cuts of prime rib. It was evidently too good for Toronto standards, and closed down and was replaced by a restaurant named Steak which was so laughably medicore and i told the manager there as much. Toronto always struck me as a city that wanted so badly to be in the Big Leagues but lacked that organic personality necessary to make a city great. Torontonians keep telling themselves they have a world-class bc they figure if they say it enough times, it might make it true. And tell someone from Toronto that their city sucks, and watch them have a meltdown. Anyone who thinks it's great has not travelled anywhere else. The only thing that happens in Toronto is people drive to and from work and talk about how much their house is worth and how much traffic there is. Total zero of a city. But it's the place to be if you want to make money.
That's unfortunate, I know everyone's experience is always a little different.
I have to go to TO in a month and I'm dreading it.
Yeah.... good luck. For work I'm guessing?
@RichardEnsing Holidays. Taking my nephews/kids to the ROM and I need to go to the American embassy. Going to shop my credentials and see if I can get out of this turd bowl.
I have family from Brampton (west side of Toronto). I live in Michigan now but after the election I’m seriously considering Canada.
Bad decision 😅, Donald Trump will make America 🇺🇸 Great again, Canada 🇨🇦 is dump don't even think moving here 😅
You’re delusional. I hope Canada becomes a 51st state. The economy here is trash and expensive
Stay outta Canada you commie piece of 💩
Yeah that's a tough one, guessing you have dual citizenship? Cause I'm sure a lot of people would like to move either way.
Great video, man. I agree with everything you said. Subscribed 👊
Appreciate the feedback 🙏
It costs more for 2 bedrooms in Vancouver like around $2500/m + utilities. One bedroom is around $1600+ depending location. I have been renting most of my life but it has gotten more expensive due to massive immigration and lack of housing. I was kicked out by my landlord after living in their basement for 10 years due to reason that his daughter needs to use it which I believe it's lie.
Yeah.... that's always a tough one. You really will never know exactly why. and yes renting in Vancouver is getting out of hand, that's for sure. We got just a few problems here in Canada 😬
I used to live and work in Banff, Alberta, and anytime I spoke with someone from Calgary I would always "joke" that the best thing about Calgary is its proximity to Banff. No one was ever mad about that "joke" 🤷🏻♀️ Edit: this is also where I learned about the term "summer sweater". That was a culture shock. Bring warm clothes to Alberta, all through the year.
hahaha, too funny. And yes, I agree about the summer sweater!! 👍
After a road trip from Las Vegas to Calgary, I was shocked to see the demographics.
Sounds like a fun trip... Yeah its a little different
@ it was
No f***ing job in Calgary. Don't come here.
Dude! You are spoiling my plans! 😬
Sorry..... not sorry!! 😂
We moved from Toronto to Calgary over 6 years ago and we love it here... kids don't even want to go back and visit their childhood city even for a week... I do miss my friends and family though, but they come here to visit at least every year so our entire summers are packed with guests from out of town 😀
That's great to here! Ultimately its got to be the right move for you and your family and sounds like it was. Thanks for sharing!
Don’t forget about the nasty hail storms. Coworker of mine just got hit with 50k of damage to his house in a recent storm.
Definitely a great point. Hail storms are no joke.
Oh man, love this! Fantastic. video, and the intro wow!!! It is great that someone uncovered the truth!
Appreciate the feedback 👍
is the LA of the north just how toronto is NY of the north with same problems and f up stuff + 30% of new people are indians lol
Yeah, I hear yah!
