I designed villager houses using real paint brands
Paint companies love predicting the vibe for a year through their paint colors. But the question is: were they right about 2024? And are they as versatile as they claim? Let's put them through the ultimate test: designing cute little houses inside Animal Crossing: New Horizons!

Small colorful gothic home | FFXIV housing guide
What did you use for the entrance door? Thank you 🙏
FFXIV needs to do away with glitching entirely. It should be like Elder Scrolls Online. Place things anywhere you want them. Imagine the possibilities!
As someone who has min-maxed my apartment (at least with the 100 item limit), this is interesting. I wish I could own a house without the 45-days-until-demolition nonsense, otherwise I'd willingly buy a plot.
I don't blame you at all. I hope the stuff I talked about here is helpful for apartments too because they share similar challenges having to work with only 100 items.
Very educational video! **continues to use Burning Down The House and Make Place after making the very first design without a single plogon and developing a PTSD in the process 4 years ago**
I thought addons weren't allowed in FFXIV?
Strictly speaking they're not. If you're caught using them in-game that's grounds for an instant ban. *However,* the community's gotten kinda flippant about it. SE can't act on accounts unless they're reported, so there's been an increase in players not only using addons, but using them in ways that flat out wouldn't be possible in the base game. Which is a real problem in the housing scene in particular. It's becoming common for players to use mods to place furniture pieces in ways they shouldn't be able to. Which has also lead to a lot of people believing housing designers aren't capable of doing what they do without them. Which also has the side effect of leaving console players feeling like they can't build a pretty house. That was the driving purpose behind this video. To show not only is it a big lie that you *have* to use addons to build a pretty home, but that you can even do better with less effort if you know how the game's engine actually works.
Good video! Honestly, could have stopped it at asking 'What is the purpose?' haha. So many houses just straight up don't do this, and it's very obvious. It's not a silly thing to think about though, in fact if you want to have a good design it's absolutely crucial. Even some decent designs think that they can just throw together a bunch of items that look half decent together and call it a day. But if you want something truly good, something that will really wow people when they step in, you need to ask 'What is the purpose of this space', and uncompassionately stick to that answer. If something doesn't serve that goal it doesn't go in. In FFXIV we are limited not by space but by item counts, so we have to make every item earn it's place in our builds. In top level builds I truly believe that "because it looks good" is not enough reason for an item to earn its place. Pick a purpose and stick to it, but recognize what is important about that purpose and why. You may not be able to fit in every idea or want that you have in a single build, but if you understand your purpose front, back, upside down and sideways then you can still come out with a very compelling design. I designed an apartment the other day, and I'm really proud of it. Is it a complete living space? No, it doesn't have a kitchen, a table to sit at, or even a toilet. But that's ok in my mind because the design as a whole is cohesive and sticks to what my main purpose was, which was creating a place for my character to rest and decompress, not to live in. Small things like head canon can also help. For me, my head canon that allows this space to work the way it does is that while this is only designed in an apartment space, what I've designed is really more of a snapshot of a larger estate. I don't have to have a full bathroom in this room, or a kitchen, or a dining area, or a work space, or a library, because in my head all of that exists on the other side of the door. I still used every single item of that 100 item limit, but every single item in that build earned it's place, and there's not an element that I'm disappointed with or feel doesn't make sense. If you want good builds, have a purpose.
Couldn't agree more about that point regarding headcanons! They're fantastic for helping pin down the purpose of a space :D
I appreciate you making this video, I think it highlights some important issues with the current state of architecture, especially with the elitism and gatekeeping. As someone who studied architecture and spent a short time in the industry before realizing it wasn't the right place for me, a lot of this looked familiar. That said, I think there is misdirected frustration here, which is aimed at the architects, when really it should be aimed at the developers. It's easy to think that the way a building is designed and the choices that are made come down to the architects. After all, it's their design, with their name, and with big projects they make a big deal out of advertising the fact it's their building. However, with extremely rare exception, buildings are designed not to what the architects want, but to what the client, being the developer, or home owner in the case of custom residences, want. It's ultimately their building, and their money. And the simple fact is that in most economic and political systems concepts like sustainability, affordability, accessibility, efficiency, and basically any socialist amenity, are not immediately profitable to the developer beyond their use as a marketing buzzword. You have to have a client that *really* cares about implementing those concepts, usually to their own expense, to benefit the common good for actually valuable design to take place. Would better access to public transportation contribute to lower greenhouse gas emissions, leading to better public health, which ultimately leads to better cash flow in the economy be profitable to developers? In the long term, esoteric, less tangible sense yes. Would more inviting designs lead to more business traffic and increase economic cash flow which can go back to developers? In the long term, esoteric, less tangible sense yes. Would greater diversity improve unemployment and wages that would allow more people to spend more money end up in developers pockets? In the long term, esoteric, less tangible sense yes. But that's not here, that's not immediate, and that's not tangible, so it's not "profitable." Another thing to keep in mind is that these buildings often look the same, which such uninventive design, with a total detachment from what a society needs, is that these developers are rarely self funded, and have to get approval from a lot of people. Investors and city officials are going to be more attracted to something that *looks* modern and cutting edge, and similar to other new developments, because as Michael Diamant in the @the_aesthetic_city clip pointed out, those designs look good in renders, and most people, especially those without an artistic tendency, have to be told what looks good. One of the things I learned in my architecture studies, which applies to many different industries, is that generally speaking, people don't know what they want until you show it too them. So if you show an investor a render of something that looks familiar, which has proven to be "successful", and looks like it's forward thinking (whether or not it actually is), then those investors are more likely to want to attach their name to it. There are certainly architects and architecture firms that don't give a damn about the average person. There are people in the industry who either think of themselves as gods own gift to the world of design, or think that they are somehow more intelligent than the common person and therefore have a more valuable opinion because of the career they've chosen. But that doesn't make up the entire field. It's not insignificant, but it's also very hard to actually get anywhere with that attitude without having already worked your way into a position where that attitude can't hurt you. By the same token I'm not saying every firm is going to be pushing developers to make more sociable buildings. However, big projects like these often go through many iterations, and the architects will likely try to suggest certain considerations, but ultimately it's down to the developers to say whether or not they want to include that in the project brief. It sucks, but because of the world we live in, that is how decisions are made. The only way we really start seeing change from the people is the same as we always have, we speak with our wallets. When these designs stop being profitable design will change. That, or time and evolution from the people at the top will change, but again, that will change how they want it to change, not how the general population want it to.
Hey Racer! Thank you so, so much for adding your experiences and insight to the discussion. I promise I read the whole thing. The issue's definitely more nuanced than what I could stick in this video, especially as an outsider looking in. So I appreciate getting to hear from someone in the trenches. I wish the developers in the industry were kinder to architects and were willing to listen to y'all more. Because I can't imagine it's easy constantly having clients rebuke ideas and advice you *know* would go a long way in improving a project or entire communities.
@@galatunia You won't find any disagreement here. It's one part of many of the reasons I decided to leave the industry. Architecture, and by extension civil engineering, city planning, and interior design, are very interesting and difficult fields to work in. There are a lot of nuances that go into the end product and shape it into what it becomes. They are influenced by politics, economics, sociology, art, technology, the environment, history, culture, and many other factors. These areas are absolutely fascinating to research, study, and learn about how all those nuances impact design. However, particularly in architecture there is a large disconnect between academia and practical application. In fact, in architecture circles this distinction between the two is often openly debated, usually pointing out how teachers of the field often teach things that don't make sense to the rest of the industry, because they have become so entrenched in the academic world that they've lost sight of what it's like actually working for a firm and clients. Of course, understanding these influences, and the way your buildings have lasting consequences on the communities around them is important to architects to steer them towards thoughtful design, the clients they will ultimately work for often don't have the same education, or even particularly care. If the design brief is to build affordable housing that is cheap to build for maximum returns to the developer then it's going to be very hard to convince them that it's worth spending an extra $500,000 on more energy efficient windows or $100,000 on better infrastructure for public transport access, or $200,000 on green spaces for improved living conditions.
I’m a ps5 player and love doing complicated builds, i too think that controller actually makes a lot of the glitches easier to pull off
Hi there o/ I've just started watching your videos and am really enjoying your content. I also play with a controller and mouse on pc, so it's nice to see a creator with the same setup as me to show how to do things :) In regards to the storage placement glitch, does this also work with placing partitions and collumns against walls with the new minimalist interior? I've recently started furnishing my small and have a floor plan worked out thanks to Makeplace, which uses a lot of marble partitions. I'd like to put some pieces flush against the walls, but I keep getting a noticeable gap that I'm struggling to hide or eliminate.
Hey there Felodontis! I'm so glad you're enjoying the videos :D And to answer your question: yes, the storage placement glitch does still work with the minimalist interior to a degree. I say that because the skin takes away a lot of the space the storage glitch usually bypasses. For walls in general it still works, but depending on what types of walls you use getting flush is going to be tricky (or sometimes impossible). For example: stage panels can always be storage-placed almost perfectly flushed against walls for whatever reason. Whereas the blank partitions you can put wallpapers on will usually have a small gap no matter what you do, but you can get pretty close. Every furniture piece reacts differently.
This is amazing! 😍 Just wondering what u used for wall by the door and what ceiling there? Thank for a great video 😊
Thank you so much Leia! The wall by the door is just one of the stone wallpapers in the game. It's the rough stone wall! The ceiling is the bottom of a bunch of stage panels lifted up. That's how you get all the pretty wooden beams :D
ngl I spend roughly 8 hours a day just idling in my apartment, house or FC room while chatting with friends.
All the more reason making sure your space is comfy is important, even if virtual. We spend so much time in these spaces that we might as well :D
@@galatunia facts!
This is such an awesome video to watch to get ideas on housing direction! Thank you for making it <3 I am curious though, I am new to taking building a bit more seriously and I am not sure why you were placing items on top of the roofs and such (like the ponds and light thinggys) - is there a reason you used those for the build or was it only glitching purposes? Thanks again!
Thanks so much for tuning in! And that's a great question :D A lot of popular items used for fake ceilings don't have camera collision. Meaning if you swing your camera around in game, it'll go right through the ceiling. Not only does that show all the nooks and crannies you probably don't want seen, it's also uncomfortable for playing in. Especially for taller characters. So things like ponds, certain bathtubs, and most of the beds in game *do* have camera collision. You float those just above your fake ceiling so that your camera doesn't zoom beyond your build.
@@galatunia That is brilliant!! Thank you so much for answering my question <3 That makes so much more sense now haha.
10:05 I don't think it's just the railing being skinnier. The original staircase+railing take up ~a Blunderville Rainbow & 2 Bumpers, while the minimalist is only about the Rainbow wide. I was trying to build a space above the lower staircase before to hide the railing but with that and the stairs themselves being wider I don't think that's possible, but I'll definitely enjoy minimalist for the FC house & apartment where I cover all the walls anyway. Thanks for the comparison!
That's interesting! Thank you for pointing that out and sharing it with us :D So the staircase becomes smaller all around, which completely changes what's possible in the build. That has me even more excited for what they'll cook up for future skins!
Soo as a Medium ownerif i wanna change to it i have to redo ALL of my Floors. I worked prett good around the older Styles. i was planning just to import my current floor plan into the new style but i see it will take some massive replanning of things i placed where the new stairs are. And yeah they should let us dye the whire trims. Not everyone like having white walls. and in deed loses some flair with it.
This is exactly why I haven't switched over with my small. I put a lot of planning and effort into it and I don't want to tear it all out. Doubly so, seeing as I have no new idea nor the 'need' the extra space.
I'm torn, because on the one hand, bigger house. On the other hand, Oh my god, the house just looks so damn sterile and soulless now, like... damn they just look so cold now.
That's a valid feeling to have! I don't blame you at all. I really hope they give us the option to remove pillars but keep the original housing skins because they have so much detail and character.
I love this house! Can you please make a guide on how you made it🙏🏼 I would love to make it for my small cottage👉🏼👈🏼 Loving the helpful content, much love❤
Thanks so much Shuriken! I can happily add a similar build to my to-do list. I'm currently testing a "build with me" format for the next house video so if it works out I can revisit this little gothic style :D It won't be exactly the same if I do that (as this home was designed around some OCs near and dear to the homeowner) but I'm confident I can nail a similar atmosphere.
I love the minimalist style and went with it for my medium house the only issue is partitions being too tall for under the stairs it’s hard to do anything under it without it looking funny when ur waking on the stairs
Instant fan. Kindred spirit. Legit will edit my discord bot to auto post your vids. Decent sized discord, so hope it gives you a few follows
Oh my goodness, that's super kind of you! Thank you very much Abney <3 Next one's in January (or at least that's the goal!) so I hope the rest of the year is good to you!
"If you have a medium house..." My god, if you have a medium house you are one lucky mofo. It's literally been 4+ months of no medium houses for sale.
Yeah that's the unfortunate side effect of demolishing pause. On Mateus there's a couple coming because I guess they manually demolished to transfer or something. Demo returns Jan. 8th, so 45 days after that (should be around Feb. 22nd) there will be a wave of openings from people who forgot to enter their homes. That'll be one of your best shots to earn a medium. Which is stupid, to be frank. But it's the system we have to work with for now.
Damn wish you do my house your imagination blows me away .ty for your videos I always walk away with new ideals
Awww thanks Susan, I appreciate that <3 May your house, both in game and irl, be the cozy haven you deserve! I know you can build something cute :D

Don't know if good or bad wild but thank you! :D I love her.
ANIMAL CROSSING! <3 <3 <3 Its so hard to choose which of these builds I like the most since each capture a different mood and personality to it! >3< But in terms of which one I tend to vibe with the most I think I'd want to live in Peach Fuzz or Limitless. I love cozy cluttered vibes that make me want to take a nap. The tones are bright and warm but not too jarring to the point where they are hard on the eyes.
Hee hee! <3 I'm so glad you enjoyed both of those :D I think both colors would be fun to live in too.
Never thought of paint colors catching the vibe of the year before. I think Pantone is right on track with Mocha Mousse for next year. It still looks like 💩but that's pretty spot on for how I feel about 2025!! LOL I really like the colors limitless and upward. My favorite build was the flower shop with cracked pepper, it's so cute!
LOL right? And to think they had the gaul to actually call it Mousse, knowing exactly what it looks like. And that's totally fair, I get ya. Thanks a bunch! <3 I loved how cracked pepper came out too.
You can visit these houses in game! By using my designer code here: RA-6563-3653-4946 . Which color and build was your favorite? And did any of the paint companies get the vibe right for this year? And more importantly: Thank you all so, SO much for being here. I know it's been a rough year for a lot of people, so I wanted to end it with a video that's bright, cheery, but still acknowledges that the year for what it was across the board. Take some time today to spend with your loved ones, okay?
First for a new Galatunia video, time to settle in and enjoy.
Heck yeah! Thank you so much, as always <3
I love it but I wish that I didn't have to remove all the items *cries*
My first build in this game was born out of pure spite and anger at this very issue. It's a fully utilized three story small house (basement has a loft second floor to it) basically just to prove that I could. There's more space in there than half the mansions I see. The build is still up if anyone's curious, it's going to be on the too low side if your character is very tall, it was made to femra/malebun scale. W12P21 Mist on Spriggan.
Thanks for the video! Unfortunatelly it's uselless for my decor style. I would still need fake walls and what I actually need and wish for is more slots...XD
An option to just remove the pillars and free space under the stairs of the deafult design styles would do the trick to me!
Thank you for watching! And I totally get it. I wish they would have given us the option to keep the original styles and just remove pillars and stairs. But hopefully this is a good first step! :D
Just literally give me an empty box, increase the item limit so that I can put everything into myself... windows, doors, walls, lights. and open up the editor so you don't have to glitch for hours or use the prohibited black magic.
I would love alternate versions of already existing styles with no pillars and the adjusted stair position for Medium houses. I still enjoy the character of the trim and it suits my Shirogane house very well, I just hate the pillars (and windows tbh).
regardless of style I almost always place my own marble partitions for the walls. I'm just glad I don't have to worry about those pillars along the walls!
I've never thought (big 😉) about doing many of things you talk about in this vid... I actually learned a lot. Have a subscription for being awesome!
*Keanu Reeves meme* No YOU'RE awesome! Seriously though, I"m glad I could help! :D

Thanks for tuning in, and yes, there absolutely is :D In my housing glitches video I showcase a small house that keeps the FC door accessible while looking custom, but if you don't have time to watch here's the general TL;DR: The best way to make your FC door look custom, but still useable, is to make use of things like windows or even bookshelves that will let you click through them. You can click the door from farther away than you think. Windows are the easier of the two methods: you can use a wooden beam to sink a window backwards into the door frame, and have a simple custom door that blends more with the rest of your build. You can do that with all kinds of wall-mounted items too.
@@galatunia Hi! thx for the tip. I will check the videos. Do you have more floor planing videos? I want our FC house to be more of a hang out place so things like kitchens and bedrooms would not be needed. I tent to not have to much patiance for to many glitches but floating some stuff when it is needed is fine. Just not overdoing sice it is such a pain :P
My house is 100% styled to look like a Glade house, pillars and all, so this update just makes me sad. I want the open stair space! I wanna move my bathroom under there! But no, I absolutely cannot vibe with the stark white wainscoting. I'll keep my house exactly as it is until they add a dark wood option. T_T
That's perfectly valid, and I do hope that future house styles will have more character to them. Or that they'll let us remove the pillars from existing housing skins so we can keep using them. I bet your Glade house is gorgeous!
tf were they thinking with the top and bottom trim. 😢 please look forward to next patch (very wishful thinking, more likely next expansion) for FULL minimal wall interior designs..
I was too eager to remove the pillars in my mansion that I didn't inform myself better :( I wish I had watch this video before. Now all is gone and in my storage. I switched to the minimalist but now I don't think I can work around the wainscoting for an underground Golden Saucer type area I had in the lower level. It's supposed to be dark and now has this bright white borders. Plus the lack of partions associated to the style. Oh well I will have to either go back to the old style and place everything back as it was or rethink the whole house. /sad
God i love the design of this house ❤
If you need a large house to design on...I have one in real need of some work. Hyp-Lav W4P28
We get more space, but not an increase in item limit, plus I don't like the white border top and bottom of the wall, you can't have a darker build which is what I like.
Loved this video! Was recommended to me and now I'm following! I'd love to see what you think of the new interior design change - specifically the interesting new challenges that the 'modern' look gives!
Hello Brooke! :D/ Thanks so much for dropping in. I actually published a video on that very topic last week! You can find it by clicking on my username. The TL;DR is I absolutely love it.
I was really looking forward to the housing updates and was really really disappointed with the minimalist style because of the top and bottom borders. In any videos showing the new look by SE, it looked like it was all white without the borders. Kind of misleading. Overall though, the changes are more positive than negative and very much needed. If anyone feels the need to flame me for having an opinion that isn't brown nosing SE, don't bother.
