    What is a d#7b9 chord???

    I was fighting to transcribe this myself, and was directed here by Reddit. Thank you! Those little hiccups like the 8th tuplet of bar 3 and the nested triplet on the 7th tuplet in bar 4 were throwing me for a loop; Didn't quite know how to notate it. As I was listening, I tried to hear how he was phrasing/grouping the notes. Bars 3 & 4 I was feeling as if he was playing a bar of 5/8, and 6/8, but at a new tempo that was metrically modulated. How would you feel those tuplets if you were going to play them?

    how tf do you play eleventuplets?

    • @zeusthedrumlord547
      @zeusthedrumlord547 2 месяца назад

      Its a little bit misleading to show them as eleventuplets. The physical education guitar chugs hit on a pattern (in 16th notes) of: 67676 This makes 32 total which allows it to be felt as 4/4. The modulation Matt plays basically puts 4 16th notes where the 6’s are, and 5 16th notes where the 7’s are. Thats why it feels like it slows down. 45454 = 22, which is where the 11 comes from. This shift from 6 -> 4 and 7 -> 5 isnt a perfect ratio, meaning the new 16ths slightly speed up and slow down. But, Matt’s own words, “it’s close enough to ‘bastardize’ it into sounding as one smooth pulse.” Hope that helps.

      that’s a great quote. sounds like something along the lines of “learn the rules like a pro, so you can break them like an artist”, and that’s jazz/prog af

    • @zeusthedrumlord547
      @zeusthedrumlord547 2 месяца назад

      @@brohan24 for sure, it’s one of the sickest modulations I’ve heard and fits the nature of the song perfectly. Just learning his thought process for it alone made me a better and more creative player in what I write. This is one of those instances where his MIDI programming skills def programmed it to hear if it would be cool before he ever tried to play it.

      @boudewijnlamper Ive been accustomed to a glock mounted on the xylo And it makes sense for you because you have a really good pedal glock, but still kinda goofy to look at lol

    • @boudewijnlamper
      @boudewijnlamper Год назад

      @@rocinanteferox4267 Having the setup in reverse (with the pedal glock) makes much more sense though. I was once a member of a group in which the glock player had to manually mute his notes on the glock with his fingers. A pedaled glock is more logical.

    • @rocinanteferox4267
      @rocinanteferox4267 Год назад

      @boudewijnlamper Maybe sometimes I'm only a high school student so I'm not exactly an expert, but in my FE we have an old Deagan glock mounted on an acoustalon xylo With decently soft mallets that blend with the vibes well, he doesn't have to mute at all Honestly though the horizontal setup sounds most convenient

    • @boudewijnlamper
      @boudewijnlamper Год назад

      @@rocinanteferox4267 I guess it depends on the context, and in some cases it might indeed not make much of a difference. Still, if the option is there, a pedaled glock gives you more musical possibilities/enhancements.

    I'm so confused. Why the 5:3 in 5 at measure 10 instead of 16th note quintuplets? Other than that, a very impressive transcription!

    • @boudewijnlamper
      @boudewijnlamper 2 года назад

      Because that wouldn't be accurate. Eldar is playing 5-note groupings within the time span of 3 16th note quintuplets. Another (in retrospect, perhaps easier) way to transcribe this is by using dotted 32nd note quintuplets. These last exactly as long and then you wouldn't have to use nested tuplets.
