    That was absolutely wonderful!! I have seen other videos of this matsuri (at least I think it was this one?) The floats are amazing, I always think that they are going to fall over! Is this dedicated to one particular kami? Why do you think they are called 'floats'; they are not floating???? No cheating now!!! 😉 I am now very hungry and it's only 10am!!! I'm sure that this is probably the most crowded day in Gion, or are there other matsuris during the year? This was so very interesting, so thank you for showing this. Enjoy the rest of your weekend both of you!

      Hi Neale. Yes, it should be this one, the only one throughout the year. Its origin is to appease the kami and prevent disease and disasters. Honestly we don’t know why they are called “floats”, haha. Perhaps it is because they seem like floating. Have a lovely weekend ❤

      @@AshleyandNissom Thank you for your informative reply. Well done for not looking on the internet to find out!! When carnivals first appeared in London, about 800-900 years ago, they used to take place on the River Thames, on small boats, not on the roads. The roads weren't great back then, but the river went all the way through London and could be seen by everyone. Another life changing scrap of information!!!

    You two are always somewhere; when do you get time to do your studying? Hong Kong seems like a very nice place and everything looks so inviting. I liked the part about salt production. I don't know if I've mentioned this before, but salt was a very expensive commodity in past days and good, useful people were often told that they were 'worth their weight in salt'! The Latin word for salt (and thank you for the Chinese word), was 'sal', and that gives us the word 'salary' - from the word salarum which was the salt money paid to Roman soldiers. A very interesting video, thank you for making it and I will see you both on Saturday.

    That was a beautifully filmed video guys! As I've said about a million times before (🥱), I don't really go for Michelin starred restaurants; Michelin is a tyre manufacturer!?!?! I do like Chinese food, and have been to several Chinese restaurants, and hundreds of 'take-aways', but never a posh luxury type. I certainly don't drink wine, so if I can't get beer, I'm not interested!! Some of the food looked outstanding, even if sometimes you found it a bit ordinary. I love pork in any shape of form, so it's never wasted on me! Really, for a small person, Doctor Ashley can certainly put away a lot of food! Nissom is a big man, so I'd expect him to eat a lot. I really enjoy seeing the two of you out and about together; you make a beautiful young couple. Thank you for another enjoyable video.

    Good morning you lovely people! I believe that you have to stand on the right side of the escalators in Osaka? Regis is a Latin word that means 'of the King' hence 'Royal'. Once again you have found something beautiful!!! It was a bit too luxurious there, but it looked a lot like you can see in England? Like Ashley, I absolutely love cream!! I could eat a whole pot of it with nothing else, but it wouldn't be good for my cholesterol!! The sweets and savouries that came in bento boxes looked really lovely, and the presentation was amazing! I really hope that you both enjoyed it there. Have a great week and I will see you both on Saturday.

    Good morning to my favourite couple! I can't imagine dining in an old prison!!! I assume it was built by the British initially? Space is at a premium in HK, and I can't believe that people have happy or nostalgic reasons to keep it intact?? It looked like a bleak, austere and brutal place. Sorry to rant, but why don't the Chinese go back to the original name for places? I won't blame you for not knowing every place name in Great Britain, but Aberdeen is at the northern tip of Scotland!! Why keep that name, or other British names? The reasons for Britain occupying Hong Kong were totally wrong, and also evil, and many people here are still full of shame because of it. That was exhausting!!! A bit like the two of you in that heat! I think that China is an amazing country and it's another place that I should have visited when I was younger and fitter! Anyway, thanks guys and I hope that I didn't bore you too much!

    • @AshleyandNissom
      @AshleyandNissom 14 дней назад

      Hi Neale. Hong Kong is a special place where the East meets West. Perhaps this is the reason why we keep many of the British heritage. For Hong Kong people, the history is memorable, though evil, as we were benefited from Britain’s legal and financial system. Of course, this is just what we think.

    • @NealeOBrien

      @@AshleyandNissom I, of course, respect the people of Hong Kong's wishes, but I don't understand why the memory of GB should be immortalised? It seems to me that, wherever GB set foot, there were some benefits, but also some regretful actions and practises. I believe that we (GB), interfered too much around the world, so now it's up to the people of these places to make their own decisions. I'm not very proud of my country a lot of the time. See you on Tuesday.

    Nissom, I thought it was a bit strange when I didn't see a video from you both at 10.00am this morning, but then later I found this! I didn't get a notification either??? Your first record shop was interesting. What is it about Marshall amplifiers that seems to be nostalgic? I actually used to have one in my guitar playing days!!! I noticed some great records - there was of course the great Miles Davis and John Coltrane, as well as the great songwriter David Bowie!! What you say at the end of the video is true - Shanghai is amazing. I've never been to China, but wish that I had; it's an amazing country! It is so big and varied, but all I have seen are videos, and I watch quite a few videos from there. Nothing I see in China these day is plain and ordinary, the buildings are spectacular! Did you get caught up in the recent typhoon that came up from The PI and Vietnam? I saw some terrible damage. Anyway, this is turning into a long comment, so thanks for your video and see you on Saturday.

    Good morning to both of you! Well that was really nice! The train carriage was beautiful, but I noticed that it was First Class, were the other carriages just as beautiful? I've seen lots of videos from Nara, but obviously they all concentrated on the deer and the deer park. I'm sure there is a lot more to see in this prefecture though? There is the giant Buddha for example. I know that you were only on a day trip, so it's impossible to see everything! You briefly showed a book shop - that's my kind of shop! I loved the way the shelves were overflowing, and a lot of the books were just in piles!! Indian food is very common here because of the large amount of immigrants from the Sub-continent. I couldn't eat it now because I feel so full up after seeing the shaved ice you got!! The portions were huge, but I adore the taste of peach!! How is Doctor Ashley today? How are your studies going Nissom, when do they finish (or maybe they have??) I'll make sure to actually send my comment today!!! 😊 Thanks for a great video, see you again on Tuesday.

When you are in Europe you seem to find places that represent the particular country a bit more but, I would have imagined Kyoto cafés would look a bit more traditional? Still, either way, you have made another really nice video. I hope you are both well today and have a good weekend.

I wonder why there was all that reading material there? Why would you read books, and not look at all the beautiful scenery? The station and train staff looked so professional and smart! As is usual for Japan, everything was so clean and neat. The scenery looked so manicured, but at the same time, remained natural looking. The cable car looked old, as you say, but obviously well maintained. The cute car looked more cheerful than cute! Of course, we have beautiful places in England too, but nothing as pretty as this. Good morning you two! Rome is very beautiful, there is no doubt about that. It is a relatively small place though and it's in danger of being swamped by tourists - a bit like Venice, Barcelona, Kyoto etc. I don't know what the happy medium is; obviously the Government of these countries benefit and the local small businesses benefit, but the local people definitely don't! I don't blame people for wanting to see these places, I want to see these places, but the crowds that go there are a great inconvenience to the local people, who don't get any of the benefit. It's a tricky problem. How old is Angelo? If he has been working there since 1939, he must have started a a boy. I mean my Mum is nearly 94 and she was born in 1930, so I just wonder when he was born. From what I remember about Roman history, Agrippa was a General who battled against Mark Anthony (Caesar's 'bestie) and Cleopatra? By the way, the name Caesar gave us the words Kaiser and Tsar. Napoleon, of course, was French and he was the most successful General in history, having fought and won so many battles! Although he wasn't a very nice guy! Compared to other Generals like Alexander of Macedon, Julius Caesar and any modern Generals, he was the greatest! I don't know anybody that doesn't like Italian food and drinks, you two seemed to enjoy it? It's amazing to be able to see works of art created by all those Italian renaissance artists. Obviously they didn't produce the artwork totally by themselves, they had assistants and apprentices who did most of the work. But it is still a thrill to see them in person. Anyway, I have been talking for too long, as usual. Let's hope that the 'magic water' really helps you with your studies! Bye for now.

    Good morning guys! Rome is a truly beautiful place. The food that you had was incredibly expensive - 10 Euro for tomato and mozzarella??? Still, I suppose that must have been tourist price? It is still delicious though. I was brought up a Roman Catholic, as my parents came from Ireland a very Catholic country. I totally refute it all now though! I bet the Papal Mass was an ordeal? It probably lasted an hour or two?? Did you know that Vatican City has the highest crime rate in Europe, and I've just checked - its the fourth highest in the World!! This is obviously due to it's tiny population, compared to the high amount of tourist targeted crime - pick pockets etc. A dangerous place eh? Nissom is very thoughtful and sweet to think of Ashley and buy her some flowers. Ladies seem to love flowers for some reason which I don't understand??? One of the first views of the record shop showed a picture of Jimi Hendrix on the right, Elton John on the left, and one of my all time heroes in the middle - the genius that is Frank Zappa!!! The colosseum is amazing when you think about it's age and the great condition that it's in. How many of today's buildings will still be there in almost 2,000 years? As always, thank you for the lovely video and having to put up with all my opinions of everything! I think that, as a person gets older, he becomes more opinionated, and even grumpy? Good morning to you beautiful travellers!! It looked like a lovely day in Florence! I remember when I was younger, I could eat an enormous amount, and still have room for more. Looking at you two young people, I remember those days. These days I couldn't manage to eat a fraction of what you two eat (and stay so slim!). I also realise that I am not qualified to talk about all the cafés and restaurants you visit, because I no longer eat as much as a growing young person!! You had the coffee and gelato, then started talking about getting breakfast - I could not take a lot of calories like that! One day you will be 'old' and maybe agree? It's amazing that, architecture built by one family, still gets so many visitors 100's of years later! Nissom had his eye on that watch; it was in his style and I think that he wanted to own it??? Good morning guys! I just realised that I plan my morning around the expected time of your video being uploaded! I have decided that I will stop being any sort of food critic as I am not qualified to make comments. When I was young, I too could eat lots of food, these days I have the appetite of a small bird!!! It's nice to see young people eating so much - especially slim people like you two! All I will say is that the ham and salami platter you had looked very nice! I have never been to Venice and, while it looks lovely there, I don't think that I could cope with the number of people there. I believe that Venice is struggling with two main problems; rising sea levels and over tourism? Tourism is a wonderful thing until the number of visitors rise to such a high level. I wouldn't blame anyone for wanting to go there, but so many places in the world are experiencing really high numbers. This is great for Governments and local businesses, but it really impacts the locals at times. Plus tourists don't always behave in an appropriate manner; you know what I mean? I don't want to criticise people for wanting to go places and see the culture, art, architecture and atmosphere there after all, I have been a tourist too! I just wonder what the 'Happy Medium' is?? I see it was your last day there, where are you off to next? I wonder if you're ever at home!!! I'm pleased that you have so much fun and get so much experience of other places, but I think that it's nice to sleep in your own bed too! Enjoy your weekend you two - see you on Tuesday. Good afternoon, Neale! Venice is such a lovely place only if we stay in less touristy places such as the island of Giudecca. It is so quiet and peaceful. Perhaps we can’t come up with a solution to the problem of over tourism. It is nice that people travel around and experience different cultures in this global world, but the harm to locals can never be underestimated. The only important thing is that tourists should behave themselves! Our video next Tuesday is still an Italy vlog. Let’s keep it as a secret and you would be surprised. Good morning you lovely couple! I think you found the two main problems with tourism in Europe - high prices and high numbers of people! Venice is beautiful, but as you probably realise, it has a huge problem with rising sea levels; those books that were water damaged looked like a very sad scene! I don't think that there is much I can say about Venice that you wouldn't know already? You already know that Marco Polo came from there, but a few other well known people came from Venice too. The artists Titian and Tintoretto (which was a nick name from his father's occupation as a dyer), the composer Vivaldi and of course, the famous lover Giocomo Casanova - the one who 'sighed' on the bridge! Venice was also one of the states that the word 'bank' came from, alone with Genoa and Florence. The word bank comes from the Italian word 'banque' which was the bench, or small table, that they used for business. Anyway, I'm getting boring now! Ashley looked nice wearing her glasses!!
