I’m 42 years old and I’ve been training BJJ for 15 years in San Diego, CA. Go Padres! I have a black belt, and I can’t believe it every time those words come out of my mouth. I love everything about this damn sport.

What she did you start mate I’m 25 but feel to old
I was 26 when I started but I took a lot of breaks. Probably 4 years worth of breaks. Don't make my mistakes
@@Jiujitsu.pilgrim is it worth the injuries ?
@@curtiskarner2190 There aren't any real injuries. Injuries are possible, but rare, and recovery is usually manageable.
Congrats on your black belt! And sorry for your dog. I bought the 2 pack of both black and d white but u can’t use them pant run super big ? Did you experienced the same ? Greetings from panama Central America
Thank you for the well wishes and for watching my video. Yes. I experienced the same. Put only the pants in the dryer twice and they should shrink down nicely. That’s what worked for me
I'm sorry for your loss man. Thanks for the vid. I need a summer gi year round in my gym. Luckily our we have some good lightweight gym logo gis, but I'm putting this one on my radar as could use another. The white on black mix has a very karate look to it.
Much appreciated. Where are you training?
I'm in Arkansas, the gym is Veneration Jiu-Jitsu. I'm a (43 yo) white belt there only about 10 months.
Awesome brother. Enjoy the journey!
Congrats on the black belt! Digging the black gi, super clean
Thanks!
congratulation on the black belt and sorry about your dog
Thank you, brother 🙏🏽
@@Jiujitsu.pilgrim I’ve been waiting for someone to do the review on the gi before I get it and thanks. Ur welcome anytime
Awesome. Hopefully you found it useful.
They look great! Good fit too. I have the Jiu Jitsu Globetrotters travel gi for summer rolls, which is basically the same gi. It just got too short overtime and they don't make Long sizes like an A2L or A3L - hence I think I'll switch to Shoyoroll gi's, and an Origin gi in the future.
P.S. I should not have skipped through the video - sorry about your loss first of all and second, congrats on the black belt!!
Thanks for the info. Question - were you putting the gi in the dryer or hang drying? Trying to understand the shrink situation.
Much appreciated. That dog meant the world to us.
@@Jiujitsu.pilgrim always hang drying - I don't own a dryer. I just think I once washed it too hot or it shrunk over the years. I'm 6'2" with a normal physique, so size 3 tends to be or become a little too short for me over time. The Ground Force blue label gi I got some time ago after seeing your video is really great, A3 - but also the pant legs are already too short. The jacket itself doesn't really shrink.
Great feedback. Thank you. I feel the urge to wash on hot once in a while. I want to scorch any bacteria out of it! But, A1 fits me perfect if it doesn’t shrink
I dig the mix n match white & black!
Me too!
yep! looks cool.
It’s retro
Got my eyes on their upcoming gi's. Thanks for the review. I do see your video is mirrored ;)
Looks too weird when its not mirrored
Factor in origin shipping. It’s wild! The yellowing on my Origin gi is nuts! Worst gi I own.
No shit? Which gi and how long have you had it?
How long is shipping to receive
Took about two weeks from order submit to arrival.
You said A1 is a perfect fit for you. What's your height/weight? Did you ever dry it? I'm always inbetween an A1 or A2.
5’6 170 lbs. If I dry the gi it will shrink and my heart will break. Don't put it in the dryer
@@Jiujitsu.pilgrim thanks! I’m 5’8 175, do you think A1 would fit me?
Yes sir
Appreciate the info..just ordered a Path Gi and went one size down..I’m an odd size apparently at 5’9’’ and 215 lbs so ordered an A3 and looking forward to seeing how it fits.
Let me know how you like it, brother.
How did it fit? 5-7 190 here. Chart says A3.
I really want to know as well
@@Jiujitsu.pilgrim my gi gets here Saturday. I’ll let you know how it fits.
Thanks brother
What about the rvca gi from the rvca website is it the same as shoyoroll?
Rvca does collabs with Shoyoroll once in a while. If it says shoyoroll in the name, yes, it's Shoyoroll and that's a great gi.
Hello would you recommend the A0,A1, or A1L for 5’8 154 lbs?
Shoyoroll or Kingz?
@@Jiujitsu.pilgrim for both
A1L for both
I’m 5’9 160 lbs, my A1L shoyoroll fit perfect out the box but got shrunk in the wash and now fits a bit snug. Ordered my new Kingz “One” gi at A2. Hoping it shrinks down to perfect fit but I’m worried it might be too big. Holding thumbs
I think you have a good plan.
Why aren’t you a black belt yet?
Hahaha! Because I suck, dude.
That is the Competitor 21.9 or the Clementine Competitor
Thanks, Marco. Its a thing of beauty!
So I don’t own a Shoyoroll or an Origin Gi. What should be my next pickup?
Why you ask me such a difficult question!?! In my opinion, Style and fit are superior with shoyoroll. Origin is superior in build quality in that their Gis don't shrink. Origin’s materials are like space suits - high tech. Shoyoroll will feel more traditional, which I like.
@@Jiujitsu.pilgrim I have always just used some Fuji, kingz or gameness. I know i know..I haven’t branched out much in the last 12 years of training but I figured it’s probably time. I have just stuck with what I know I like in the past. Feeling at home is nice but I’ve been seeing a lot of hype around Origin and have saw a good amount of people trying them out in my area. Maybe I’ll just grab both 😅😂
You sound like me, brother
I would get a Shoyoroll as a home gi and Original as away. If you travel for seminars or comps you can wash a dry and Origin and be ready next day.
Good call
If you posted weekly this channel would pop off.
Damn - appreciate that. Going to try to get more out

Fuji for the win. Expect the jump from a3L to a4 is kinda ridiculous. A3.5L would be perfect for me at 6’4” 235lbs
Never owned a Fuji but I'm going to change that
I think I’m goin to get one, thanks for the reviews. Love that they’re making them in Europe.
Oss
I tried a butt load of gis and always go back to fujis they just fit my body type best
I get that. I feel the same about shoyoroll. They have the right cut for my body type.
Did the Kingz ripstop pants shrink or just the jacket?
Just the jacket
The reason Original doesn’t shrink is the same reason it pulls, it’s made of polyester. Also look at all that gathering and pulling around your armhole on the original gi.
Also Origin looks like it weaves its own fabric. They are prob using America cotton (maybe mixed with poly) if so, American cotton is of lower quality only because it’s too costly here to add all processes that make cotton premium. Short cotton fibers that are “open end” and aren’t ringspun will pill like crazy.
Thanks for the pro details. I take it you’re not an Original fan?
What processes make it premium? I’ve never been a fan of cotton in general.
@@Jiujitsu.pilgrim I make custom bespoke Gis by hand, made to fit for each individual. ruclips.net/video/bJANX1-TjLg/видео.html
@@Jiujitsu.pilgrim fabric is made by weaving yarn together. Yarn is made by spinning fibers together. Fibers are picked off a cotton pant. That raw fiber is rough and has a lot of debris in it... If that raw unfiltered fiber, is spun in to yarn, that yarn will produce sub premium fabric... On the other hand Premium fabric is made by removing the debris, and then combing the fiber to filter all particles so that you're left with smooth soft small fibers of cotton. That make much better quality and pure fabric.

Appreciate the review. Huge Origin fan! Rest of their gear is just as awesome as their jiu-jitsu stuff.
Yeah dude. Love the jeans too
Great Review. I’m a huge fan of Origin. Waiting on the new release this month. I agree 100%. Their top of the line gi, Axiom is worth the money. Thanks Origin for putting out a great product! You have to order them immediately cuz they sell out QUICK.
Dude, I will be at my computer waiting to load my cart and buy that gi!
What do you do for a living? You got real Gi money my dude
I’ve been training for 15 years. 1 gi a year adds up. I’m in SaaS sales.
How does the Raptor weave compare to the Pearl weave of The Path?
It’s a level up in softness and comfort but I feel like the value in the Pearl Weave is the best bang for the buck in today’s gi purchasing.
@@Jiujitsu.pilgrim Thanks! I'm just starting BJJ this month and for now I'm gonna use a cheap gi, but once I lose some weight and get into shape I want to order an Origin Gi. Right now "The Path" is my #1 choice.
Welcome brother! Dude, you will love the Path Gi. Where are you training?
Duuddeee, your Video literally saved me 100's of dollars and possible back and forth between sizing and replacement for the Gi. YOU'RE 100% RIGHT! 1. SIZE: I'm 5.9" and 155 lbs, with a pretty lanky figure and thin waist. I bought an A1 in spite of the size chart recommending that I buy an A2 and the A1 FITS ME PERFECTLY. I'm so glad I watched your review before purchasing. 2. FIT: I found the pants to much Baggier than expected, with a lot of room around the thighs. Even though I had ordered the latest FLX PRO PANTS, they feel like old school jiu Jitsu Pyjamas when I wore them. Very different compared to the SLIM FIT BJJ Pants I'm used to wearing from other brands. (Again you were spot on here 👊) 3. Material: Probably the lightest thing I've ever worn in BJJ. Especially the Jacket. Almost makes me sceptical about how it will hold up over the years. Only time will tell. For the FLEX PRO PANTS: I was expecting a lot more Stretch when they said they are FLEX PRO. There's absolutely close to no stretch in the pants. Almost feels like wearing pants under my office suit. Very Polyester like Feel. Overall won't go as far as to say "Flex Pro" for any flexibility that they have. The clip lock works great and is a welcome change for me. Additional info abt Origin RASHGUARDs: I also bought a rashguard, and found the one I bought A VERY TIGHT FIT as per the recommended size chart. Personally I'd suggest others to buy ONE SIZE HIGHER for RASHGUARDS. Quality was not that different than previous ones I owned. Nothing revolutionary imo. Overall, I'm satisfied with my purchase and look forward to the Experience of using it. And I want to extend my heartfelt Thanks to you for sharing your detailed honest review and guiding my purchase ❤️ Oss
Thank for the great detailed feedback! I hope it serves you well, brother!
Good video helped out a lot, I been doing sports and karate throughout my life so i know the struggle being the "new guy". I cant wait to get my ass kicked around, gotta start somewhere right lol. I def want to do competition, when you think the best time to start (months/ years) as a white belt?
Welcome to the journey brother! Have you landed on a school to train at yet? As soon as the thought hits you to compete, you should do it. Earlier the better so there is less pressure. You learn a ton from competing. Keep me updated, I want to start a video series talking to guys along their journey.
@@Jiujitsu.pilgrim Will do! Its going to be very interesting since my last time competing in martial art was in high school. I feel that burning inside me that want me to do it ever since renting that first UFC 1 tape in grade-school I've Always wanted to learn BJJ. Keep creating gold content bro!
Much appreciated, brother
Good stuff man, next year im joining my local CheckMat bjj. Looking into gi now, so far i like Fuji, but im thinking about just doing shoyorol and kingz. Diffidently like the clean look of gi's like you.
Nice. Checkmat is a great organization. You can’t go wrong with any of the brands you mentioned.
I appreciate the recommendation. I'm gonna try them out
Let me know what you think. They helped me a lot.
Great recommendations. Can you post links to where to buy them?
I love these because you can buy them on Amazon
Great review! We have a lot in common - we both like Origin and high quality gi’s with simplistic minimal design. I currently only wear Origin (have 7 now) and I fit A2 perfectly and I like their pant sizing with custom pairing. You got me very interested in this gi. I checked Ground Force’s website and I believe I’m an A2 as well. The one concern I have is the pants. On their site, A2 has a width of 56 cm which is equivalent to about 22 inches which is a 42 pant waist. This seems to be off because that’s husky size. You fit this gi well. How is the waist sizing for you? What is your waist size and what do you wear in Origin pants. I wear 34 waist size and want to make sure the pants fit me ok with this gi. Thanks
Hey, thank you for the feedback and questions, brother. The Ground Force pants fit me great. The waist and length are perfect. I've just lost some weight, so I'm a 31/32 waist size. From Origin, I have ordered the 32-waist, 28-length pants and love them. The Origin pants rest above my ankle, and the Ground Force falls right to my heel.
Thanks for the review! I live in the Netherlands, might want to get one but struggle with sizing. I always lean to an A3L size, which they don't make. An Origin gi is still in my wishlist, but difficult to obtain here.
What gi do you use now?
@@Jiujitsu.pilgrima jiu jitsu globetrotters competition gi, A3. It fits well but the pants and sleeves are just a little on the short side. Same with my globetrotters travel gi. They both shrunk after washing. Have had them for 2 years now. My 4 year old tatami gi is A4 and too big.
Never heard of globetrotters. Going to look them up now
It's a community that organizes jiu jitsu weeklong training camps all over the world. They do very cool things.
Yeah they do. Just read up on them. This is great. Thank you for the recommendation.
Great video thank you... I love my Origin Gi and yes it does give you a slight advantage over your opponent in a tight spot. Yes, the size chart is wonky. I am 5'9" 227lbs. they recommend A3... unfortunately the sleeves are too long for my liking and the wrap around my belly needs a bit more material. I will buy another one but in an "A4 short" for starters ... I really like the fit and feel of my Fuji Suparito kimono A2H although the pants are like an athletic cut or low rise.... not the best. IF you have the money, You need at least 1 origin gi in your closet. IMO
Appreciate the feedback brother. I want to get Origin making supplements for grapplers next
I own 7 Origin gis. Your comparison to Apple is bang on
Thanks, brother!
100% agree and felt the same way when I heard him say it. I have two and they really are like a pair of PJs...the more abuse you give them, the better the fit, the smoother the roll. :)
They must've thought about that when they started out.
My Origin Rift is BY FAR the most comfortable gi kimono I’ve ever worn - but it is not the best fit. I have many (many!) gis; Shoyoroll, A&P, Kingz, CTRL, Fuji, Hiro, others - Origin is by far the best fabric. It is never stiff or rough, it is always soft and comfortable. My biggest complaint- the sleeves are VERY short. It’s not a shrinkage issue, it’s just the cut. I don’t even have long arms, they’re just cut super short. I also LOVE the pro pants with the swivel buckle belt; it NEVER comes undone, and I never feel the buckle against my body. It’s moisture wicking, and breathes more than any article of clothing. And given the uptick in the cost of other gis out there, it’s not even that much more expensive.
It’s crazy how controversial the belt is to some people. I love it
*Promo SM* 🌸

18 years training and never had an issue with the draw string on the pants. Just tie a knot. I can’t think of any top competitors that have a buckle on their Gi pants.
Thanks brotha!
I dont think you suck bro. These are great videos. Sucky people are selfish...I just ordered my Origin
