Did our Volvo XC60 keep us out of the ditch?
So I had the great idea to travel to Arkansas during the biggest winter storms in the last 100 years. The roads were covered with ice, snow and broke trees. The ditches were filled with other vehicles trying drive in the conditions. We even leveled up our adventure when we decided to travel all the way to New Orleans, LA for Fat Tuesday and all the way to the end of the Mississippi River. The all the while the temps were in the teens and the weather was hitting us with ice and snow.
I had rented an All-Wheel drive 2021 Volvo XC60 SUV and used it as our adventure mobile to take my brother and his kids on the adventure. In the video I talk about the how the vehicle preformed and show you th...

Xpedition / Overland Academy intro video
Great review, looks like some fun trips. At 8:46 are they getting stress cracks in the sidewall when aired down?
I just bought a pair and about to see how they work 295 70r17 MT's jeep wrangler
I really enjoy these tires and hopefully you do too 🍻
Good review / test of these tires. I just got 4 of these for my dually ford I drive to rugged places, like to my house.
Thanks, yeah they definitely have taken me a lot of places and preformed very well
My Rover looks almost identical to yours! Same color bumper, minus the roof rack, and rims, but I have the renegade A/T’s I just bought
They are great tires for sure. Yeah I really love the white with the ARB. Safe travels
dont try to stop fast on a wash board road cuz you cant, you will slide all over and have 0 control. That is such fun when theres a long drop off on the right and an elk jumps right off the ridge on the left. . But those roads go to The Best Places!
They really go to some amazing places. Just make sure are your nuts are tight afterwards, lol
Thanks for the review on these tires cuz I'm interested in buying a set for my 2020 Trail Boss
You're welcome, I ran them again on my other rig and they do great. Hopefully all is well on your end. Cheers
Any long term updates?
Yes, I got 35,000 miles out of them before I sold the truck. They still had a useable amount of tread left.
Do you think they are better than a BFG /KO2 . ?. I am in Patagonia , Argentina . I want a overlander tyre . Not a pure MT , not a light AT . I have those options . Ko2 , are reliable but less agressive ( i think...) Than the radar rt . Please Help me . Thanks
What did you choose?
@@philipp.d.1324 finally i get a set of Cooper st maxx . Very reliable tyre . Tought . Strong construction . As heavy as the bfg mt . My set is 275/70/18. With wheel 32 kg .

Sorry for the slow response. Yes they are the best option I could find where you had an aggressive trail tire and a useable on road tire.
Hi . I am thinking in that Radar Rt
👍 awesome.
Thanks
Bro, great topic, i cant stress this enough safety and know how, don't jump the gun
It really is...
I need to get on your level of making videos….. I’m pretty sure I sent ya a video on IG
People are so dumb, they just give JEEPS away either 30, 40, 50, 60, 70 grand I don’t even know what they cost
being in LAR for 20 years was the best time of my life
Brother me too
lol...came here because there was no instructions installing mounting hardware and you flew though it in fast forward without showing.....lol....ah well. the teeth make no sense without a corresponding teeth..... where did you use lock washers or washers on mounts?
When is the next upload? Hope you are doing well.
Hey, yeah I got side tracked with life and I'm going back to RUclips and starting to post new videos. I appreciate the question.
Are they 3pmsf rated?
Some are some articles need to check. But from what ive seen most are. It's the reason I'm looking at them
Is the AC charger 110v or an international 110v/220v?
Nice video, how did those Renegade tyres hold up on the washboard roads and all of your other trips so far
Thank you, I believe I have 30k plus on them and the tread depth is still good, missing some chunks out of the lugs... I believe because the rubber is a little harder than other offroad tires, thats why they have a 45K mile warranty. However, they are still doing great.
A few bumps (while off road) and having to find a better line.......at the cost of DECREASING all the failure points of the air suspension????.......I'll take that deal all day long, especially if you like trail riding alone. Good Call, Congratulations!!!!!!
Has there been any issues with them till now?
Tyre size?
How are the shocks not blown after that?
Lol… yeah, that 10 miles to the dune will leave you needing a kidney belt or you go so fast you skim the top….
Really good review, how are you getting on with them now after more running? How many miles and what's the wear on them like. Also did you have to do a lift or trim the LR3 to get them to fit? I'm running an LR4 and have been thinking about fitting these and just trying to work out what size to go for on my 20" rims. Thinking of 275/55r20 which is just shy of 32" diameter but everyone is telling me they will rub so just wondering how you got on with fitment.
when you were measuring your tyre size, you were measuring from the 'flat' spot at he base of the tyre! That's why the difference.
Damn Man! I was just about set to pull the trigger on the A/B 2" lift HD spring kit...then I watched your video. I went out today with some Jeeps- pretty aggressively rocky/ rutted trails - no drama. I do have new bags, sensors & compressor- so it SHOULD perform as expected. You've got me second-guessing that decision... I have those shitty 19" wheels (06 LR3 HSE HD Pkge.) The only decent tires I could find are Falken W/P 255's. I'm thinking about going with some OEM 18" & running BFG 275/285 & Johnson Rods... I can hear the regret in your voice- even though you've solved the potential reliability problem> Whatta ya think? Thx!
Thank you for the review. I just bought some renegade rt plus tires for my truck!
I liked your video, very honest, I think reliability is the real improvement, I am thinking on buying that kit, I bought a used Lr3 which already has some coils of unknown brand, the problem is that it is very low, the two pipes (ithink part of the exhaust) at the bottom are constantly hitting rocks in the middle of the road, how much height do you have on the lowest part of the back of the vehicle and which part is it? So I can measure and see if the height will increase.
Thanks, good question. I need to measure to see.
Great demonstration, definitely going to invest in one of those
fastest way other than just pulling the core and putting it back.
I remember that truck! You could barely get it the parking lot at the school!
Lol, yeah it was my favorite and it only cost me $500
What would be a good basic tool and vehicle spare part loadout
extra fuses, gasket maker, and fluids
I hope you went for heavy duty 2' lift coil springs with 275-65-18 tires and the car is pretty much bullet proof.
Yes they were the heavy duty 2 inch…
Just bought some for my LR3 based on your experience. Had never heard of them until you got them a few months ago and I'm excited to try them out. Just throwing it out there in case Radar Tires wants to know the ROI of your endorsement.
Thanks for the feedback 🍻
The all wheel drive makes those Volvos surprisingly capable in the snow!
Yeah it did really well
Thanks for the review!! Can't wait to see what other adventures you go on with your Renegades!
What seat covers are you using?
They are made by wet okole , they are like a wet suit material... I like them and you can customize the colors and pockets.
Washboards are so punishing ! Seems like even if all bolts are tight and all cargo secure when you start, something is going to come loose!
Exactly.... everything comes loose
Do they suffer balancing issues? I've read a few user reviews on the renegade a\T's suffering balancing issues with them being out of round from new. And how do they compare to BFGs? Currently running BFGs but I'm really liking this tire.
Yeah don’t really know, because this was my first set and they are the R/Ts ... the shop balanced easy on all five and they drive good. Never had BFGs, but compared to the coopers, wrangler, and federals I have ran before ... these are quieter and seem like the tread will last longer.
Washboards are the worst! I had a rooftop tent fall off on Saline Valley Rd in the middle of July.
Absolutely they are torture test for all your nuts and bolts
Even with the coils, your rig still looks awesome:) Damn I miss the S-W U.S...
Thanks bro I appreciate it 🍻
Driving down a snowy road is adventurous and cool. I'm glad to be your best channel friend. Have a nice Wednesday. 👍👍🤙🤙👌💯
You're right and thank
Haah! Good sense of humour brother. Keep rocking it. Love the Eastern Sierras in winter - such a magical place!
Thanks yeah they are the best
Thanks for putting this together. It was hard to find a "review" that wasnt a shop trying to sell them.
You’re welcome, I really do enjoy the tires. They work well and are holding up excellent for tread life. That was my biggest problem with some other tires I had before... they wore out fast.
Did you try putting it in Super Extended Mode? Oh wait...
LOL... I thought the exact same thing...
Awesome video. I alway say yes to snow wheeling ! Very nice work on demo of how to use traction boards to do a self recovery.
Thanks bro I appreciate it.... getting stuck at the end had me rolling
Cool montage. I like the Q&A format. I may do add one to my line up.
Thanks
Do you get any more body roll with coil??
Nothing that seems different than before
Sorry to hear about you dropping the air suspension. I think you bought some aftermarket air struts that failed. Anyway, regarding the new suspension's bounciness, did you get the medium or heavy load rated springs?
Bro, it was a combo of the struts the height sensors or some other problem that had nothing to do with AS but it will make the vehicle lower... The straw was I missed the first snow this year and another trip, trouble shooting a suspension problem. I like solo travel and this will just be one less thing to plan for ....
The critically weak point of LR's is EAS. Why, it is not fail safe. Do not be far away from towing if it collapses, you will be dead on the trail, dead, dead. I have owned a 94 Classic, and have an LR3 - I converted both (they sat down and failed - I drove the 94 RRC 270 miles on road on the bump stops (not nice to your neck). The other weak point on LR's, RRS are the axle location (alignment) bars at the back, be sure to fit the Italian Garage helper parts - essential for off road, which stops the bolt working itself out, or breaking (happened to me on road - scary). Off road that fail will leave you dead, dead, not towable (need a roll back recovery dead). I did the AB OME HD coils conversion on my LR3. I also drive a 95 Discovery (5-speed)..... I am from the UK and the first car I drove was a LR (Series II) and I have had the feeling in any LR - that I need not worry about major component failures. Since I have converted to coils - that feeling is back, simple as that. The LR factory built some LRs with coils and the new Discovery 5 and Defender has that option (say no more). 95% of off road driving success is driver related. Land Rover moved the goal posts in 1972 with the original coiled Range Rover. Discovery 3 (LR3) was a truly remarkable step up in performance off road (quite breathtaking) but, the suspension (on any car) cannot fail, without the LR3 EAS working properly the car is dangerous (on road - anywhere). Imagine an EAS failure on Black Bear Pass, Red Cone Peak, any shelf road! So, do not worry, you made a wise decision, if it is a decision.....
Yeah, I haven't been stranded yet, I have had to do some serious quick fixes to get me out
The SYA Offroad kit from Lucky 8 is the way to go. Losing the extra clearance and other benefits of the air suspension by switching to coils would be a deal breaker for me. But, to each his own. ✌🏻
I have OME coils on both of my LR3'S. Love the reliability and performance of the coils. They haven't let me down yet. Will do the SYA lift blocks next.
Yeah, It was always something I was trying to figure out on each trip... the coils will probably less of a pain for me. I do miss the added height
Currently have SYA kit . Thinking of swapping air struts for old man EMU coils . How are your coils holding ?
Good candid review. The hill climb was impressive !
thanks, yeah that hill is pretty steep
