This critical analysis explains who created the Book of Mormon, showcases a wealth of plagiarism within the book, and exposes emotional-reprogramming techniques used by the Mormon Church to capture and control the minds of its members. I am not sure how much good it verified info this guy used. I watched this and first thought it was great but I read A View of the Hebrews after watching this and I think the guy that made this video hasn't. I was hoping to read for myself the plagiarism to have some ammo but honestly, this video has false info. Maybe I missed some things but I didn't see any mention of Jesus coming to America, the urim and thummin, the twelve chapters of Isaiah, the wars between the tribes, among many others. I would love to see those specific examples of plagiarism referenced so I can go back and reread them. All I saw, and it's a big deal, is a book that gives an argument for the American Indians being the lost tribes of Israel. That is something a lot of people thought, talked about and wrote about. I also see the connection through Oliver Cowdery, this book and Joseph Smith, again, significant and also damning. But I think the claim that this book has all those similarities is well overstated.

There simply is no evidence that Joseph Smith (or Sidney Rigdon) ever read either of these two works. Besides neither has any real connections or similarities to the Book of Mormon anyway. Certainly not anymore than the Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis. "Many academics, most notably author Christopher Booker, believe there are only seven basic narrative plots in all of storytelling - frameworks that are recycled again and again in fiction but populated by different settings, characters, and conflicts." So that's as far as any similarities go.

The concept of a righteous 'White' race, being wiped out by the 'indians' was a view that was widespread because of the discovery of many burial mounds, of which Joseph mistook the 'hill Cumorah' for. (its just a hill) Dewitt Clinton in his 1811 speech to the New York historical society said regarding the mounds, "The erection of such prodigious works must have been the result of labor, far beyond the patience and perseverance of our Indians ; and the form and materials arc entirely different from those which they are known to make" and many others said similar things, so its not as if any of these authors was coming up with a truly original idea. They were just adding different narratives into an existing hypothesis. The whole idea behind it was an attempt to justify them ransacking and stealing from the indigenous folk by making it 'Righteous'. Throughout history, it's the same pattern. You can 'justify' all kinds of atrocities if you convince people you have God on your side.

We know that the Book of Mormon is better in Hebrew because it has been translated into Hebrew and the structure and syntax is clearer in Hebrew. As an ordained elder in an evangelical denomination, I would like to correct Elder Callister. If I were asked, "How do I know the Bible is true?" the LAST thing I would say is that I know it is true because of my feelings, impressions or personal testimony. These things, all of which I have PROVE NOTHING. The producer of this video is quite correct in stating that many other religions can make such claims. So what would I say? I would say that I know it is true because of the hard evidence for it that is completely absent in the case of the Book of Mormon. Evidence from archaeology, Jewish and pagan sources all support the NT text. The Dead Sea Scrolls provide a great deal of evidence supporting the OT text. Much evidence from science supports a Biblical view, starting with Gen. 1:1 and the big bang. There are countless stories of people who set out to disprove the Bible, but were convinced by the mountains of hard evidence - CS Lewis being but one example. When dialoguing with a seeker, I would never tell them to read the Bible, pray about it, and on that basis alone decide if it were true. I would point them to the evidence. This is something my Mormon friends (yes, I have Mormon friends) cannot do.
