    Fabulous round up tour. Sydney is really blessed with a rare climate that allows many tropicals to survive as well as genuine cool temperate fruits. Lol your headless torso is a bit disconcerting in parts of the video, obviously a bit camera shy 😁😉

    • @sydneyfruittreesgrower
      @sydneyfruittreesgrower 6 дней назад

      Sorry no, Sydney lies in the 'warm temperate' zone and would be impossible to naturally grow and get Purple Mangosteen fruits as they are truely ultra-tropical trees along with the Durian, Rambutan etc. Instead I try to grow it's distant garcinia cousin the Achacha which has more chances to bear fruits here in my climate.

    You don't expose the young fruits to sun you'll burn them. Also you donot prune when the fruits have been set. You prune after harvest. You are very lucky if you have a good harvest here.

    • @sydneyfruittreesgrower
      @sydneyfruittreesgrower 10 дней назад

      If you are referring to the Chompoo Longan variety segment, I think I had express myself fairly clear. Many of us are not fortunate to be in the tropic or sub-tropic zone but rather marginal/temperate climate and so will struggle to see our fruits develop to maturity when the cold winter arrives which can either stall, split or even rot the fruits. I tried something different this season I have given the heavy dense foliage a heavy prune to allow the flowering panicles get more exposure to sunlight in hope it would set fruit and reaches maturity quicker. Here's a legit Australian website link showing studies conducted on 2 variety longan trees the harvesting time which can take fairly long anywhere between 6 - 9.5 months www.agric.wa.gov.au/minor-fruits/longans-western-australia

      When the trees are small & young they do need protection from the harsh weather elements such as storm, fierce winds, sunburnt etc and so I will not give mine full sun. I gradually increase the size of the pot or growbags for 3-4yrs before I plant mine into the ground e.g. the Wai Chee variety lychee tree you see fruiting in the ground was about 4yrs old and in 75L growbag when I transplanted it into the ground last year. Just to simplify I take it your 50cm pot is around 50L capacity. My largest Wai Chee lychee tree (Photo A) that has previously fruited is in 120L pot, which is extremely heavy and I would recommend a heavy duty trolley to push it around for maintenance purposes! Hi Mate. Seems like only a few months ago since we chat but I see now it must be more than a year ago. Just wanted to say your fruit tree garden is looking really fantastic. Especially in your latest update. Your late Summer (February?) 2024 update. WOW!!! Everything is growing so well, very healthy and clean and neat, well trimmed. maintained and organised, with lots of fruits coming on. It's a real credit to you, and very inspiring. It's truly amazing what you got there, and how many different trees you have. Without doubt the best fruit tree jungle on a small Sydney block that I've ever seen........... I've recently cleared my overgrown backyard Jungle. Most of it was wild native trees and only leaning into neighbours yards and bothering them. I've got all the clearing work on video, had teams of guys and machinery. and even have video of a mobile sawmill team I hired for a week to mill some huge trees that has to be dropped due to termite damage. I should be able to cover all of my costs and even eventually make a profit with the beautiful timbers we have cut. Yea the trees had to come down due to termite damage but we salvaged some dam good wood, and its left a very nice full sun area for fruit trees too. I have a lot of catching up to do before I get it all on RUclips, could take months. But hope to grow more fruit trees and vegetables now in the cleared sunny space, and show it all here eventually. Hope you're a member of Oz Rare Fruit FB group, you have a lot to share. Cheers Mate. Best regards from me, Dale at Local Time. Following with interest. 👍🙂

I find growing several other Lychee varieties for experiment (such as Tai So, Wai Chee, Fay Zee Siu, Kaimana etc) that they tend to be biennial... meaning at fruting age they will crop one year and rest the following year to concentrate on growth. The KMP is known to be a winner growing in our Sydney's climate in producing excellent quality fruits & should be a consistent bearer all year round if you are lucky to score a good tree. The Paxton Prolific custard apple is very nice and I have seen many of the growers in Melbourne has success in harvesting big delicious fruits on RUclips. Everyone's taste buds are different and so best to purchase & try the fruit from Asian grocery shops first when they are in season... should you decide to grow I would recommend finding an advance tree to cut back on waiting time and getting fruits sooner. I have also seen Melbourne growers on RUclips successful with Jujube, Persimmon (get non-astringent ones such as the Jiro & Fuyu if you like eating crunchy ones similar to a crisp apple texture) and pretty sure Dragonfruit as well! Good luck & happy gardening 👍

    Came across your site by chance. I am totally amazed at how fantastic your fruit trees are thriving especially those in pots. In my wildest dream, I never expected that fruit trees of tropical nature can be grown in Sydney where the weather is cold. I used to live in Adelaide where its practically impossible to grow those fruit trees. I decided to move to Queensland where I know I can grow all these tropical fruits. Beginning of the year I bought several fruit trees like longan, lychees, mango, lemon, tahitian lime, kumquat, orange etc and planted them in pots. Its now Dec but they seem to be not growing as I expected. They do not seem to spread out like the ones you had in the pots. Mine just keep growing straight up. What did I do wrong? Also how often do you water those in pots? Can you please advise? Cheers

      Here where I am based in SW Sydney we can grow many fruit trees including subtropical/tropical ones like mangoes, lychees, jackfruit etc. Maybe join some Facebook Fruit Trees Enthusiastic group in Australia where you can seek advise from grower's in QLD who is more familiar with your local climate conditions. My circumstance is different I live in a residential zone and so have limited gardening space, therefore training my fruit trees to grow tall & upright suits me better... should you wanted yours to grow wide & bushy you would need to do a tip prune to encourage multiple stems to branch out - good luck and happy gardening 🙂

      @@Hamza_Jutt I’m not sure the powder but people usually put unripe fruits into brown paper bag with ripe bananas to help it ripens quicker. Being a 6yrs old tree should be big enough to hold onto the fruits and give you a good amount of mangoes yield each year. Here in Sydney I just leave the mango fruits to ripen on the tree and protect them with fruit fly bags (purchased on eBay) from bats that has attacked my crops in the past. You’ll find nothing beats freshly picked mangoes off the tree and taste heaps time better than the supermarket ones since they are picked too early in QLD for interstate shipping that has lost its freshness 🙂 drive.google.com/file/d/1VbTOayqUmTFqZ1pqDQYPM-8PmkYO-vzO/view?usp=drivesdk

    • @sydneyfruittreesgrower
      @sydneyfruittreesgrower Год назад

      Ideally you should grow the trees you enjoy eating the fruits and have tried them out from your local grocery supermarkets. If it was the top 3 for a beginner: 1. Mango - who doesn't love eating these tropical fruits! My Kensington Pride from seedling took about 4yrs to establised and produces superb juicy & sweet fruits to eat... they are far better than the ones pruchased from supermarkets that are picked too early and shipped from interstate. Also you can get 'grafted' mango variety trees which you can expect to get fruits quicker and can browse through online nurseries such as Daleys or Ross Creek Tropicals to get an idea. We are currently in late winter and here's a stunning photo of one of my early variety mango tree that is in full bloom drive.google.com/file/d/1OAIZYMjPTjhEb0AfWgixZAz9hphfrcFM/view?usp=drive_link 2. Get a "Citrus" tree of your desire for example a mandarin, pomelo, lemon, lime, kumquat, oranges etc. Check out www.fruitsaladtrees.com/ to get ideas on multi-grafted citrus trees and also apples & stone fruit varieties. Unlike mango you harvest around or after summer, Citrus is usually done around winter and thus giving you that longer all year rounder to harvest fruits! 3. As above, 'peach' is a stone fruit and is easy to grow provided you meet it's minium requirements such as giving it a fungicide spray before buds burst to counter against the leaf curl problem, netting from fruit fly issues and providing plenty of sunlight & adequate watering. Happy gardening, cheers!

      Thanks for watching! Sydney here in Australia is classified as temperate to subtropical where we get cool winter and warm/hot summer... rain and sunshine is spread out evenly throughout the year. BTW about you mentioning getting no mango fruits, maybe be patient if the mango tree you are growing is propagated from seedling.. however grafted trees you can expect the tree to bare fruits much sooner or perhaps find out from other growers in your area what varieties suits your climate 🙂

      Hi, I mainly use these 3 sites which I find very effective to counter against pests such as fruit flies, bats, birds etc and there are plenty of size options for you to choose that would suit your environment & situation: 1. www.ebay.com.au/itm/234312923877?var=533903939513 Netting a large 2.5+ meter fruit tree can take lots of effort and so if you only have about a dozen fruits such as papaya, mangoes & avocados like I do - this would be the best option to bag individual fruits and I find them cheap coming in packs of 50 quantity. 2. www.ebay.com.au/itm/234772441743?var=534550523473 This is another good cover to counter against fruit fly. These sizes I find good to cover a particular branch of a tree that has a cluster of apples for example or covering an entire 2 meter tall skinny columnar tree like my jujubee/apple for example. 3. lakeviewlodge.com.au/zipper-cover Here's the most recent link I have recommended to other growers in AU on my other online post and to find that some items are now out of stock which I cannot even get some for myself for my fruit trees this coming spring/summer. They are very convenient that has "size zipper(s)" which will allow you access to pick your fruits anytime inside since they don't all ripen at the very same time and you don't have to undo the large net and re-throw it back on! I understand I have recently checked some of these eBay sites to find they are out of stock and so once you know what items & sizes your are after, perhaps further search on eBay to see if you can source them from other suburbs in NSW or from interstate 👍

    Dang, your trees are growing so well. I really hope that my lychee grow out like yours. Your trees are pretty closely spaced, but seem to do well. How do you fertilize the lychees/longan? Do you worry about overfertilizing, or are they better in ground?

    • @sydneyfruittreesgrower
      @sydneyfruittreesgrower Год назад

      I use a more natural organic slow release pallet fertiliser which they say won’t burn the roots. Many online sources would highly recommend you fertilise your fruit trees 3 times a year (spring, summer & autumn) but I am very busy with over 80+ fruit trees and so for my lychees/longans I only give them 2 feeds a year… once in late winter before flowering occurs and the other time when the fruitlets set gets much bigger so that it has all the extra nutrients it needs to help develop the fruits to maturity. One of my healthy and mature Tai So tree I have on the side driveway garden I left it in a pot for more than 3 years to acclimate to my climate before transplanting it into the ground. Just after a year of planting it into the ground, I noticed it grew dramatically over 2 meters high and the trunk also got much thicker considering Tai So variety plants usually has a very skinny trunk when first purchase at nurseries.
