Although the banzuke judges might not see it that way, Abi sliding down a half rank in keeping his Komusubi status is actually no demotion at all when you consider the reduction in numbers of the sanyaku. He would effectively stay at number seven. Not that I’d begrudge him that.

Just like a violent long track tornado ef3 to ef5 I think like hakuho hoshoryu is going to be a long track yokozuna winning multiple titles and leveling the playing field.

I thought Hoshoryu wasn't going to do well as he started off slow. Then he turned it on. There is so much pressure to start out strong as a Yokozuna, I don't know. I wish him the best.

I think Koto was Honestly a double Whammy because I think the pressure got to him as well. Also Mitakeumi people forgot had a Sever Knee injury sometime back he never had treated, didn't take time off nor did he let it really heal, Ever since then he's been suffering, I'm willing to bet that knee is starting to really hurt him.

Far as I'm concerned, the best answer to whether Hoshoryu should have been promoted is: "Ask me in a year." If he looks/performs like a Yokozuna the next bunch of tournaments, then they were right.

“Barely meeting the qualifications” based on what?? The fan’s idea or the JSA’s? Clearly the council felt he had the qualifications for the promotion and they put him in there for a reason. They are making a decision based on what the sport needs right now. I don’t think it’s fair for ppl to pretend they just gifted it to him and like it didn’t take his own hard work and clenching those last three wins to get there. I want him to prove all those people wrong more than anything because I think he has really good skills inside the dohyo. And if ppl think their favorite guy should be there, well they are just gonna have to catch up and get their promotion. Either way should be exciting competition coming the next few months!

Considering that the rules for Yokozuna promotion are a bit of a sliding scale, the 12-3JY that Takakeisho got might have lacked "dominance" in the association/council's eyes, especially if there were 2 other JY wrestlers. Compare that to a 13-2 JY in a final day decider with another Ozeki, and without any another peers, and Hoshoryu's 13-2 suddenly seems much more "equivalent" to a Yusho. Side note, I feel like the better translation instead of "equivalent to a Yusho" is "of a Yusho standard".

Do not worry, I was also wrong. I was quite surprised that Hoshoryu won the Yusho. I am happy for Hoshoryu for his promotion, but I am not entirely sold he is quite Yokozuna level yet. But, I guess he fulfilled his Yokozuna challenge. I hope he will prove me wrong and is going to be a strong and dominant Yokozuna, but only time will tell. I would like to see at least 1-2 more Yushos from him this year. Now there is not much room for mistakes for him any more. Looking forward to the March tournament!

You're more patient than I , but that's not saying much 😂 FWIW , I wouldn't have voted for Hoshoryu's yokozuna promotion if I was on the committee, but I don't really want have a problem with it, either . I'm Happy about hoshoryu promotion! I think he deserved It! And i really Hope that terunofuji can cure and treat all the health issues that he bravely endured because for him keeping up with all the responsabilities that came with being a yokozuna WAS IMPORTANT

Takakeisho had same number of wins but 12-3 junyusho vs. 13-2 junyusho. Are they equalas yusho equalant?

Hyped for March! Will Hoshoryu be able to handle Yokozuna pressure? Is Kotozakura back from injury? Can Onosato take another step forward (not too much, he has a tendency to fall when charging)?

Personally i think they need to be stricter with Yokozuna Promotions, because they are also risking a really short career for Hoshoryu if he cant dominate. Therefore i think they should be fine without a Yokozuna, unless they can actually manage 2 consecutive 13-2 or better yushos.

Definitely think Hakuoho should be your next Takakeisho JWags! What great spirit and technique
