Baudis GP15 JETA / GP Racer overview & maiden flight with Jetec E-80
I thought it'd be useful to some people out there if I made a video that covered some of the aspects of the Baudis GP15 JETA scale moulded glider. There is lots to say about this model but I've covered some of the main bits of info. I was missing when it came to putting the model together and taking it out for its maiden flight.
This is the standard carbon layup 160g carbon / herex / 50g glass. The colour is a white with a custom grey wing decoration to match the fuselage decals. I ordered the GP Racer / GP15 combo which means I got two 1st rate models for an excellent price as they share the same wings. I decided to go with the Jetec E-80 in the GP15 and left the GP Racer as a pure glide...

Baudis Skywalker XL (5m) on the slope

I've had this model for about a month or so now. It is an absolute monster, and is a very capable model in many conditions. I have the standard 3.8 version as well and they are such different beasts. I absolutely love them both! :) Currently flying with: Leomotion 4038-2200 spinning a GM 18x10 prop Jeti Mezon 120 ESC Turnigy NANO-TECH 2700MAH 6S LiPo Jeti Power-ion RB 3100 2S1P with Jeti DSM ES...
NAN Explorer BF slope soaring (and hovering) at Haresfield Beacon, UK.

I've been flying the Explorer for a few weeks now and have taken it out in all kinds of conditions from a fair breeze (8 knots or so) to dead air. I'm pretty much a slope only flyer and this model is simply stunning. One of my all time favourites. It indicates lift better than anything I've flown and the big flying surfaces give ultimate control. I've set up crow brakes (butterfly) on this mode...
Explorer BF F5J - aileron servo and IDS installation
Просмотров 10 тыс.4 года назад
I wanted to make a really detailed video on installing the IDS for wing servos. I'll be using my new NAN models Explorer BF for this install. This install will be similar to any other moulded glider wing, and in fact I've used it on some non-moulded wings as well, like my Blanchard Calypso 6. When I was new to this topic it took me a long time to find all the info I needed to get this job done,...
Baudis Skywalker maiden flight. Selsley Common, UK. 3rd Jan 2020

Three days into the new year and the Skywalker is in the air! I was VERY impressed with how this model flies. If you're thinking about getting one, just do it, you won't regret it. I had three flights on January 3rd, each one pushing the model that bit further. It's a beautiful machine, and definitely a keeper! Not the best quality video but it captured the moment fairly well. Baudis Skywalker 3.8m moulded RC glider unboxing

So my Skywalker arrived this week and I thought I'd make an unboxing video for all you folks out there. This is one beautiful glider and so well made. I'll be using MKS HV6130s on all surfaces except for the elevator which will use an MKS HBL6625. I'll be blogging the build on my website over the coming weeks so stay tuned to www.rcaviationadventures.co.uk for more RC action :)

Просмотров 6414 года назад
Ex-hurricane Dorian passed by the UK after it wreaked havoc in the Caribbean and North America. By this stage wind speeds were down to just 25-30mph gusts - perfect for slope soaring a Chris Foss Phase 6. The lift was bumpy at times but cleared up as the afternoon went on.
Sailplanes International Osprey 100 Maiden Flight - Selsley Common May 2019
Просмотров 1,7 тыс.5 лет назад
This is the first flight of my new Osprey 100. The wind was light and hitting the westerly slope of Selsley Common. The lift was patchy but the model required only a little up trim to fly hands off. A little too much weight in the nose. After this flight I also reduced the elevator throws a touch as well to make it a little less twitchy in pitch. The model was built from plans and some laser cu...
Simprop Solution XL 4m sailplane slope soaring - Selsley Common, UK. May 2019
Просмотров 1,9 тыс.5 лет назад
I got my old Simprop Solution XL going again after a while away from the slopes and it's nearly back to its former glory. In celebration I thought I'd do a quick video to share. Lift was fairly patchy and the wind was pretty light at only 8-10 mph, so it was a bit of a struggle to get the glider much higher for any aerobatics. This was its second outing in recent times of the Solution, the firs...

This is a method I use to remove stubborn old heat shrink film. The subject is a Model Technology Calypso 6 that was in a bit of a state! I've found that more expensive films such as Oracover or Profilm tend to come off easier, whereas the cheaper films leave behind a bit of a mess, unless you use this technique ;)

This footage was captured on the 4th April 2016 onboard my Align T-Rex 550E. The Turnigy ActionCam is okay, but as you can see the footage isn't amazing quality. Not least the vibrations onboard seem to turn the ground into a sort of jelly? Saying that it is only about £25 so I can't complain. Interestingly the 550E didn't handle any differently with the camera sticking out of one side. Even at...

      Thanks. I use a Jeti Mezon 160 Lite with the Jetec. It pulls about 140A with the throttle wide open. The ESC runs into a Jeti DSM ESC with a Jeti Power-ion RB 3100 to provide some battery redundancy 👍

    OP, I hope you're alive and well since this is the last video you've uploaded. I was wondering what sort of problems you encountered with the idea of mounting the ESC to the forward part of the bulkhead/jetec 80? One other question...does the size of the opening for the Jetec concern you as a point of structural failure?

    • @rcaviationadventures7698
      @rcaviationadventures7698 5 месяцев назад

      Hi there. I've not had any issues at all. The ESC is mounted to the side of the fuselage, behind the bulkhead. Cooling seems fine and the Jetec retracts with a small amount of clearance between the fan casing and the top of the ESC. I can see how the size of the opening could be a structural concern, but again, I've not had any problems with this. I have only had one 'heavier' landing and I did not have an issue - thankfully! Saying that, a buddy of mine did have a bad landing that caused a small fracture behind the fan opening. There was more damage to other parts of the model so I would not say the opening is any more vulnerable than any other part of the airframe. Overall I find the build quality to be superb. I hope this helps!

    • @rcaviationadventures7698
      @rcaviationadventures7698 Год назад

      Hi there, thanks for the comment. I've flown the GP Racer for a while now it has quickly become my favourite glider. The 3.8 Skywalker is fantastic but the Racer can fly in much calmer conditions and finds lift very well. The GP Racer wing seem is a little more suited to finding thermals and I would say is more efficient than the Skywalker. I tend to fly the Skywalker in stronger winds now, and the GP Racer for pretty much everything else. I still love them both, but the Racer really suits my flying style. It's a superb glider. I now fly the Racer more than any other model I have, but I prefer to fly in calmer conditions where the lift is a little more scarce. I hope this helps.

      I have a double carbon GP15 with FES and a GP Racer fuselage. I disagree with you about landing. I find it one of my easier planes to land. In your video you show your landing flap at about 40 degrees, but later on the flaps go down almost 90 degrees. This is how I have mine and it makes a huge difference. Also I suggest you try having the ailerons on the inboard flaps only work when you move the aileron stick above half travel. It means you get full ailerons when you need it, but most of the time only the ailerons move. I also have a 3.8m Skywalker, so look forward to your review of it.

    Excellent video, thanks for taking the time. I am expecting a new Orca Pro next week and will be installing the same ids (kst but same system). Nice trick with the cling film round the servos ! I have a 4m BF as well with the same mks servos, but bought it second hand so ids already in and i love it. I have been flying it in wind and off the slope heavily ballasted (it is a triple carbon wing). Without ballast i am at 1.7 kg, and i am adding 750 g. It is not really in it's element flying fast (anyway that is my excuse for the orca). For the epoxy i have a little suggestion , rather than the plastic bag i use a syringe ' ( no needle) and surprisingly because the nylon is so smooth that also comes clean after it has set and can be re-used. For difficult bits i stick a bit of heat shrink on the end and that is great for getting glue in difficult places. For my explorer bits I use F5Jpro in Greece, great service, i think they are vey close to NAN and get deliveries very quickly. Can't wait for some decent weather ! I have been using 850 mah 3s batteries in the explorer which i find a bit small two climbs and a decent reserve, but i don't fly competition so wanted something a bit bigger but still thin enough to fit right into the slim fuse, just found these in case you might like to give them a try hobbyking.com/en_us/turnigy-1500mah-3s-30c-lipo-e-flite-compatible-eflb15003s.html had to shorten the wires and change the plug but really good value and gives me a bit more time for fun flying. Hi Justin. I’ve actually recorded the flap install vid but I need to edit it and upload it. You’ve reminded me to get to that ASAP! Honestly the BF is an absolutely fantastic glider. I was in 4mph winds a few days ago on Selsley and it was finding lift and thermals everywhere. It’s absolutely magic. I managed 1,600ft in one thermal. With the big flaps you can descend nearly vertical and not gain airspeed. Mine is the standard version and comes in at just around 1250g all up. More than happy to chat more if you want to message me 👍

I do have some questions about the Explorer BF - it sounds like the glider I am after... or maybe the Q version. Is the Standard version reasonably durable and tough? Is it easy to assemble/disassemble on the field? I am also looking for something that has nice flight/handling characteristics - ie easy to thermal. It would be good to see some video of your machine in flight. Did you get yours through ACE Model? Justin
