Thanks for doing this tour along the border. We keep getting to the "bamboo curtain" when we visit northern Thailand, and I have a mate helping the Karen people as they flee the fighting. A good effort and some very pragmatic advice along the way - and a bit of fun. Hope to visit Myanmar one day, perhaps when things settle down. Cheers and keep drinking those Leos!!

This story is a legend. I found out about them at the right time when a classmate had a project on History classes at school about crusades and mentioned the mythical Children's Crusade. Then I joked that the Children's Crusade was real and was in Myanmar. I saw a documentary about them once, it was amazing, even a European Catholic nun believed in their divine powers. Their army was diverse in age, from seven-year-old boys struggling to hold an assault rifle to seniors, there were even guys in theirs thirties, all under the command of ten-year-old boys. They were trained by the Vigorous Burmese Student Warriors organization and it was very funny to see a boy in line who is twice the size smaller than his colleague who is an university student in his twenties. The Vigorous Burmese Student Warriors are credited with the majority role in those attacks on the embassy and hospital, either going it all alone or persuading God's Army to join them.

erm...Be Safe...Those Mannequins are so beautiful. The second world war in Burma against the Japanese was grueling due to weather and illness. So many of the brave gave their day for us today.

Always a joy to see another of your videos. I have been to 3 pagoda pass a few times and never saw more than the coffee shop and market stalls. The local stalls offer an insight i failed to appreciate before. Had a chuckle at the I'm in. I'm out shop doors. Shame there isnt a good Burmese restaurant to be had. Yummy. Onward.

These bamboo guns are called "Kyaik-Htee-Yoe Tha-Nat (ကျိုက်ထီးရိုး သေနတ်) " (Kyaik-Htee-Yoe = name of the golden rock pagoda) (Tha-Nat = gun)

As a descendant of Livonians I regret not speaking this language. My grandfather didn't pass his language on since in those times it was seen as uncool and was often mocked and seen as rebellion against the soviet regime. Thank you for your sincere video!

Excellent interivew. And just goes to show the journalists who come there (and to other places) in search of sensationalism don't even bother to understand the local historical and cultural context. If the local men of Kihnu were away for entire months as sailors and fishermen, it's no wonder women had to handle many more economic and other local matters on their own and have historically had more of a broad sense of equality. The claims of those journalists are complete bogus and wishful thinking. If I was a Kihnu local, whether a man or a woman, I'd feel rather insulted by these misinterpretations. If anything, journalists should highlight the true tradition of the island: An acknowledgement that a male-supremacist or female-supremacist society helps no one, and the real solution is men and women working together. It's also interesting that due to the historical economic riles, the women of Kihnu are more culturally conservative (in a sense), more focused on preserving local traditional culture.

I’ve been to Mae Sot! I recall mooching around the market right next to the border (near the bridge). Full of people selling Chinese car stereos. Bought some definitely absolutely 100% genuine Prada sunglasses from a nice lady there for 40 baht. One of the lenses fell out a day later 🤷‍♂️
