    Did you assign ratings based on your vision for the characters or did you make a little random roll up chart and let the dice decide? Obviously either way would work I was just curious.

    • @JasonFlashFootball
      @JasonFlashFootball 3 часа назад

      I determined the pre-made wrestlers' rating distributions and then made a simple roll chart for CR -1 through +2, Cut ranges, and Tag ranges, all based on the rating percentages of wrestlers included in the game. It was very easy. I named the wrestlers, described them based on their ratings, and assigned them a territory/pool based on their CR rating. So, I have a +2, +1, +0, and -1 wrestler in every Pool. I had two extra +0 CR wrestlers that I changed to -1 to balance the Pools.

    Totally agree that Fast Action is an excellent game. I have every Downey football game and really enjoy each one. I love that they have everything from a simple one role and you’re done quick game to a detailed full game. Last night I had a little time before going to bed and played some Ultra Quick games and one Game Winning Drive game. It was so much fun and went by quickly. If I want a little more action, I play Momentum Football. If I want a detailed game, I go to Fast Action or Mean Gene’s or GridIron Wars. I don’t think Downey gets enough attention, they have a great variety of really good games. I totally agree with you about using flippers. I like dice and FACs. They just feel right.

    Hello, so I was play big country football time and I got the 2 credits (1.5/yr) what would I treat 1.5 as. 1 or 6? For annual base earnings

    • @JasonFlashFootball
      @JasonFlashFootball 3 дня назад

      The team starts the year with 2 credits, but 1 must be paid to play, and 1 will be carried over to the season's end. However, your owner earns 1.5 credits every season plus his win-loss record based on stadium size. If we assume you finish the season with a .500 record, then you will have 2.5 credits for any off-season moves or to carry into the new season, and you must pay 1 to start the next season. If you save the 2.5, you'll have 1.5 after you pay to play and again your owner will earn 1.5 at season's end plus your win/loss earnings and so on. Hopefully this helps.

    Great topic! I greatly enjoyed your recent video about game design considerations, too. I'm replaying the '93 NHL season at the moment with a faster playing game, and treating the season itself like it's one large game, like you said in the video, looking at the ebbs and flows of teams throughout the season like the ebbs and flows between two teams in a game.

      @JasonFlashFootball 4 дня назад

      Thank you. This is it, "what are we 'playing' for" the game details or the season details? Also, I think hockey, basketball, baseball and soccer sports are genuinely better sports for the quick play full replay because they have such long seasons, big samples, and much can happen over a three/four month season. Football is a tiny sample size and can feel a bit "so what" in fast play full seasons. Quick play football games are perfect for tournament style "what ifs" though or long-term career projects.

      At my age, I prefer quick games, tourneys, and games with career options; however, I also love a brilliant long-form game and replay experience. Unfortunately, I've not found a game that deserves 90 to 120 minutes of my time for the actual game experience or the results. If I could find a long-form game that engages me, is not tedious work, provides depth/detail, and quality results then I would play more long-form games.

    • @JasonFlashFootball
      @JasonFlashFootball 4 дня назад

      Regarding: SSX. I love SSX as an abstraction of SS Football. SSX, FDF, DTF, and GWDFB are all fantastic quick-playing games. SSX is a nice mix between long-form and quick-play. One still calls plays and defenses; every roll involves team and player ratings; it uses actual minutes per roll; it features every facet of real football games: Kick offs, Onside Kicks, FGA, PAT, Punts, PR, INTs and Fumbles, and Sacks. It is an abstraction of the series of downs but does not exclude or hand-wave away any moment of the sport. SSX is a masterwork.

    • @JasonFlashFootball

      It depends on how much time I have, and my mood but mostly it depends on what years or eras of the game I'd like to play. Strat-O-Matic, for instance, I own only two seasons. My games, BCF and FT, feature fictional leagues from different eras and they play very quickly. I'm still looking for the "perfect" football game. There are full football sims that have every season in history available and are reasonably priced. I'd like one of those to be my daily go-to game. I'm looking to start full-season replays in NFL history but I cannot find the best game for those projects yet. Of course, full football sims generally take 90 minutes on average and I don't always have time to play those games.

      Play Action Football is perfectly designed and very much gets out of the way. I appreciate PAFb's ease of solo play.

      Can't wait to see your abstract Hockey game. It will be interesting to see how this great abstract concept works in a 'free flowing' sport like Hockey compared to 'stop-start' sports like Football and Golf.

      @ronniehansen8027 appreciate your interest! We've got the teams created. Still need to add some details. Possibly logo's and certainly lingo lol.

    Looking forward to seeing the golf game. I agree with you, APBA Golf looks like a painful, tedious chore. I’m sure it’s a fine game, but it’s not what I’m looking for. Thank you for the riveting discussion, Jason! Take care.

    At least a golf game can’t be as boring as golf.

    Colts primary RBs were Jerry Hill (Fullback) & Lenny Moore (Halfback).

    I’m in the process of replaying the Colts ‘65 season thru APBA. Thru 10 games, Baltimore is 7-2-1.

      Nice! APBA is the best way to get the replay games done.

    Ed Brown had been signed on waivers from the Steelers just the week before to back-up Matte. Colts first TD was a pick-six by LB Don Shinnick.

      Oh! That's crazy. What could have been if Unitas had been healthy. Matte was a QB at OSU?

    John Unitas and back-up Gary Cuozzo did not play for the Colts in this game. Tom Matte is pronounced Tom Matt-E.

      I do talk about Matte playing QB in this game in real life and thank you for the pronunciation of Matte.

      @JasonFlashFootball awesome. Hockey would be a natural fit as well I think due to reading the dice. It's a needed addition in general for sports to keep a structured running tally. Glad you're doing those!
