The problem with in person chemE jobs is they are in a shit hole or are some kind of rotational positions that are absolulty horrible for families or even just a social life at all. These jobs used to pay $$$$$$ so you could suffer through them for a few years and more or less retire (or at least have a base line fuck you money investments) but now the pay is just ok, just slightly above regular engineering job pay. Very few are making 300k a year anymore. So keep that in mind before you go into chemE. Of course everyone wants remote jobs because it allows you to live where you want, that's a big deal. I was in ChemE and got lucky to get an office job in a pretty nice place without rotations but when that ended I had almost finished a second degree in EE so I just pinged my network to get signed off for EE PE from my control systems work in process engineering. I didn't have my fuck you money at the time and had JUST got debt free so I was a little upset when the lay offs came. So now days ChemE is good IF you can build an entire working system and sell them to companies, this allows you to set up shop anywhere and do your design work and just ship stuff off in crates. Corporate jobs are getting shittier and shittier and the money is not even close to keeping up so make sure you don't sacrifice to much for these jobs. If there happens to be one where you are and its convenient then cool but I would not put my entire life on hold for 100k. I have my fuck you money now, my advice is never go into debt for a chemE education and only do it if its either one of the few $$$$$ jobs or its convenient.

I do those small tasks here and there like taking measurements and doing calculations but I'm not satisfied. How can I grow and enjoy my internship? Is it possible to ask him to give me feedback on my work weekly? Would he agree to that?

My presidential endorsers brother in law is a process engineer. I have obsessive compulsive disorder which means im illogical. Thats why peter tells me to leave the school and suggests the company fire me. Peter thinks i am too stupid to understand hes making fun of me. Peter thinks he is smarter than i am. Peter teaches God in his reaction engineering class. Peter believes God punishes people who do wrong algebra. Peters obesity is in conflict with the teaching of christianity that gluttony is a sin. This shows that peter is a hypocritical christian. Peter believes the school is persecuting him for the word of God and that God requires him to fail certain students.

Oh man, I think remote work is going to become more and more common and many of the hurdles you mentioned will be greatly diminished. Many of the hurdles are from people perceiving remote work as unable to do _____ and I think people will find you can do much more than a lot of older/old-school-thinking people think at the moment. I'm glad you didn't talk about the bullshit reason I hear all the time, that "remote employees are just less efficient and get less done." Fuck that. I'm about x2 more effective working remotely on the days when I work from home at my current EPC Process Engineer job. I could easily do my job fully remote and travel very occasionally (1 week/year) to client sites, and I know that especially because 1/3 of the team I am on is fully remote already. Yeah......I can't wait for the culture to shift and companies to realize remote work is awesome for them to save money and for the employees.

This is hindsight for me, but I would have applied for a lab tech(contractor) position right after graduating, gotten foot in the door and then either tried to become a supervisor within this plant on the floor, stayed in the lab, or applied for engineering roles. You probably have a chance of going to supervisor doing a good job and then launching to an engineer role. The point being you'll probably need to take a low paying lab tech role, to then have a chance at an okay salary as a supervisor gain experience and then launch to engineering. At all points you can and should be applying for roles that you want, but you are doing this to gain experience while you are chasing your real dream jobs...

When I first started watching your videos, it was about a year ago. I was new to a marketing job helping scientists and engineers use statistics to improve R&D and production. The learning curve to actually knowing what an engineer does in their day-to-day work and what are the realities of their life, career, and wants was steep. You helped me learn what engineers care about and how they see themselves and their roles so that I better understood my customers. I’m so excited you’re back and ready to learn more!
