Why are the captions right on top of the photos? The whole point of the video is to see colorized photos and they are covered up within one second by captions that block out much of the key focus point of each photo.

The photo stating soldiers in trenches at Petersburg is, I believe, the Union 6th Corp at Fredericksburg opposite Marye’s Heights during the battle of Chanselloville in 1863.

If one million union soldiers could come back to life today and see the results of what they fought for they would have joined their Southern brothers. FACT!

I drive through a couple of battlefields on my commute to Northern Virginia every single day.... Wilderness and Chancellorsville. Early mornings driving through these areas is haunting... you can feel the history!

The mortars are at the Peninsula in 1862, not Petersburg in 1864. The dead Confederates at the fence are at Antietam, not Gettysburg. You listed the Dictator photo wrong as 1862 in Virginia. It looks like you switched those captions. The "typical house" is a photo of the MacClean residence at Appomattox. The soldiers "in a trench at Petersburg" are Michigan troops shortly before they are attacked at 2d Fredricksburg, whuch was partmof the Chancellorsville battle in May, 1863. Find the photo at the Library of Congress and review the photographer's penciled notes on the glass outside of the photo. This miscaption is a common mistake that has taken on a life of its' own.

The soldier at 3:50 is a Union soldier from a New York regiment early in the war, definitely not a Confederate.

The only problem I have is with the Captions, like the one that shows a Plantation home & calls it a typical house, the Southern population had much more poor & share cropper than what you would call today a middle class & many were illiterate & uneducated & 98% of the population did not own a slave and were as helpless to say anything about any wrong doing of the powerful & affluent then as we the people today are but that is never considered just as in today's time Everytime racial incidents occur followed by Rioting & looting it is not the South were the trouble starts it's the North & Western U.S. were all these so called superiorly moral people who keep calling g us evil live

Our nation paid a very high price for the sin of slavery. Almost a million dead, if you count civilians. I think our huge debt for this national sin, has already been paid with their sacred blood!!!

These pictures hit a little bit different to me. Me being a black man in America and knowing what this war meant to my people. So much death behind setting my people free brings tears to my eyes.

The U.S. should he done what Britain did to abolish slavery without a war. They agreed to pay slave owners to give current slaves their freedom while at the same time abolishing slavery. That idea might seem abhorrent to some, but it less abhorrent than war. The British method was a sensible way of dealing with the transition of making something which was unfortunately legal to now being made illegal.

Northern Virginia is so freakin haunted. I shouldn't say this but I think General Stuart marched through my yard, with three other soldiers. I saw it on the cameras on my house. I think it was Stuart, he did in fact visit Burke, VA. Yes, I know that there was the Native Americans and the Revolutionary War. But, people that live there see Civil War Soldiers. It was brother against brother and cousins against cousins. It was such a very tragic time in history.

Some of these pictures are colorized as if these native women were white. The truth is that true American people, the ones we call "native" or "indians" (as Christopher thought he had arrived to India for an alternate route), aren't black or white....They are brown.....So "true Americans" are brown!

@3:47 He's not a Confederate soldier. That's Medal of Honor recipient private Francis Brownell of the 11th New York Zouave unit in the early part of the war. He's famous for shooting and bayoneting the man who killed colonel Elmer Ephraim Ellsworth getting the Medal of Honor as a result ending his army career as a 2nd Lieutenant.
