    Davis... Come on Buddy, how can you be a SF Giants fan and verbally say on this podcast that Bonds was a cheater? You got to stick with you team and support them (forget about what the Sports Writers try to push down your throat). Bonds "allegedly" used PED's - you got to remember it was BALCO (the sports lab) that was under investigation, and it was Bonds trainer that was found guilty... not Bonds. All through the trials Bonds never admitted to the use of illegal steroids (by MLB standards - not all PED's are steroids). Steroid use was banned in the late 90's due to the Anit-Drug Abuse Act. But there were steroids in the 70's and 80's - do you want to remove Johnny Bench's plaque from the Hall of Fame? Who is to say that some of the great athletes in the 70's and 80's (who are in Cooperstown BTW) did not take steroids to get to the level they played at? I don't think Bonds was a cheater. Why? Because he didn't have to cheat to be a Hall of Fame ball player. He grew up watching the game and learned how to hit from some of the greats - like our beloved Wille Mays. Bonds was a Hall of Fame baseball player with amazing numbers back in Pittsburg and long before coming to the Bay. I think honestly (regardless of PED's) that Barry Bonds has been the target of the sports writers for years due to how he treated them when he played the sport. And based on how the Sports Writers treat black athletes in the locker room when he was a kid... I do not blame him for being leery and not trusting them. The Sports Writers are the ones writing history and they are the ones who will do anything they can to demolish Barry Bonds reputation and keep him out of Cooperstown (which is sad). He is an amazing baseball player who knew how to hit the ball regardless if it was over the plate or not, steal a bag (smaller bags than we have now), and could field the ball. He definitely does not deserve to be called a cheater.

    • @bspn
      @bspn 26 дней назад

      Davis probably won't see this, but I wanted to verify what he was talking about. He was saying that when he was a kid and really started following the Giants, it was during the Bonds drama. He didn't really judge Bonds at all. Was just saying this is what he heard and what he was told.

    • @RobertThornock
      @RobertThornock 26 дней назад

      @@bspn Thank you for the clarification, I appreciate it. I am a Gen X kid, I have watched and followed Barry Bonds his whole career. And I know it is probably just personal to me, but it is sad that the young adults (Millennials and Gen Z) are growing up hearing things like Bonds was a cheater. I wonder what future generations would think if the media and Sports Writers would have wrote articles about how Shohei Ohtani was a horrible gambler (which I do believe he did participate in) during his gambling controversy? Instead, since the media loves him, all there articles are about how he was a victim. Maybe the Dodgers "Golden Boy" should have had the same dark shadow cast on his career like they did to Barry Bonds? But I am willing to bet that eventually Shohei Ohtani gets in the Hall of Fame. But will they give the same respect to a player who records Ohtani won't be close to touching? I guess we will see... [SIDE NOTE] I do not know if Davis will read this or not... but I want to say "sorry" Davis. I shouldn't have jumped to the conclusion that you though of Bonds as a "cheater." I just feel bad for the guy. He is (in my opinion) the greatest player of all time.

    • @bspn
      @bspn 26 дней назад

      @@RobertThornock - I think the Bay Area's point of view is vastly different from the national view of Bonds. We love him. And I bet you that if you ask him and he's being honest, he probably thinks he handled some things the wrong way. I remember being there real time and hoping he just showed a little bit of regret. But you're 100% right that there are folks in the Hall of Fame who definitely cheated. They just weren't under the same magnifying glass.

Again, he was coming off yet another elbow surgery in '99 and was having an uninspiring 2000 run with the Orioles until he gets traded to St. Louis and turns into the Will the Thrill of old (.345 BA, 12 HRs, 42 RBIs, .426 OBP, and .655 SLG in just 51 games). He is a special case. He’s got a spot as long as injuries at the catcher position are there. But he’s definitely a DH only candidate in the future. Probably trade bait.

    Zaidi absolutely needs to play youngsters because he only really spends money on pitching AND when he does sign bats they are usually in their mid-thirties. Oh yeah did I also mention Zaidi is cheap as hell ???

      It's not his money. If anyone is cheap, it's directly from ownership.

    The player who makes this whole thing work is Casey Schmitt @ SS because his elite defense will allow us to get the most out of our good/very-good starting pitching staff. Look fam Im 40+ and every time the Giants have had a team that competed for pennant- and I do mean EVERY time- the team has had a foundation of fundamental baseball and team baseball and DEFENSE. A good example of this is when we had Vizquel and Molina OR Snow and Hamilton OR Thompson and Uribe. Long story short we NEED Schmitt at SS. Casey is a SPECIAL player.

      His defensive metrics last year were pretty rough at SS. I do think he gets a shot at 3B next season if Chapman doesn’t re-sign.

      @@evans5150There are only a handful of Giants SS I have seen in my life that are at the level defensively of Casey Schmitt- ballplayers like Jose Uribe (RIP) and Juan Uribe and Brandon Crawford and Omar Vizquel and perhaps even Mike Benjamin. That's literally it- I mean I started following Giants in summer of 1989 and I KNOW Schmitt is that dude defensively. Period. My point is this guy Schmitt needs to be starting for Frisco because he has that Humm Baby get-up-and-go attitude !!!
