Opening a Micropub In a Pandemic - Part 2

I opened a Micropub during the pandemic (not intentionally of course). In this video I show you how things are looking right now as we gear up for re-opening and talk about what's changed since 2019. I Opened a Pub 🍻 In a Pandemic...
Просмотров 1,5 тыс.3 года назад
I opened a pub during probably the worst time in history. Before covid hit the world though, I began documenting the process of opening my very first micropub... In this video, (originally filmed at the end of 2019) I show the state of the premises before any of the major building work has begun. I'll follow up with a review of how things are now soon! If you like this video and would like to s...
Cheers very enjoyable video subscribed 🍻🍻🍻🍻
Thanks! Debating whether or not it's worth making some more videos again...
I had hoped to SEE your Micropub, having never heard of one before. It seemed that would be fitting considering the title.
Please forgive the super slow reply here. Haven't been active on RUclips for a good while. Good point! There's a few more videos I made where I show what the pub looks like.
Hi rob… how the micro pub going?? A question on on how do you source your beer products ?
Hey! Haven't checked RUclips for a while, apologies for the slow reply! The pub is still doing well thanks. We've been featured in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide for the second year in a row which is massive. Good Q, we mostly source from a few suppliers - Pigs Ears Beer, Jolly Good Beer to name a few, as it allows us to get a little bit of everything delivered in one go, but we also get beer direct from the brewers when possible.
@@thestagandlantern Thanks a lot for your reply, I was looking at opening a micro pub next year any advice you can give would be much appreciated..! Especially with the changing the use class on a commercial property..? Thanks a lot 👍
@@eljonno69 No probs. Change of Use probably took the most time to sort out. Before I took on the premises I did a pre-application with the local council, where I submitted my plan for the application, along with a fee. Then after a month or so they gave a reply on whether or not there would be any issues with the application. Luckily they said there should be no issue. So I'd recommend doing that first when you have a potential premises, good way to avoid any potential pitfalls in the future.
@@thestagandlantern That’s great thankyou so much this is a massive help..! Good luck and have a merry Xmas and happy new year 👍
Did you buy the building or leasing it?
Hey Brendan! Haven't checked RUclips for a while, apologies for the slow reply! We lease the premises, and pay rent quarterly.
How did you get the money in the end? Was it a loan or was it just like renting another property out?
Well done for opening your micropub in the midst of a pandemic! We filmed a lot of London & South East area micropubs for our documentary including The Dodo, The Little Green Dragon and The River Ale House. We finished last year, otherwise we would have LOVED to follow your journey. We'll have to come check out The Stag & Lantern in very near future. :)
Thank you so much for the kind words! Funny how it ended up being the worst time in history to open one up… but it makes for a good story ha! And definitely let us know when you plan to swing by!
@@thestagandlantern It totally does make a good story! We are so proud of all the micropubs that have gone through the pandemic over the last 18 months, and have managed to keep business going. We'd love to pop in at some point for sure! If you've seen our documentary, do let us know what you thought of it. Always interested to get feedback from the micropub community. :)
I spy the Raleigh Beer Garden growler! Represent from the states! Haha
My passion for wanting to do this is not going away, please continue with your vlog , much appreciated
Cheers Dylan! And best of luck if go for it! Hoping to post something within the next few days too…
Did you ever take the plunge? My wife and I are about to embark on the journey, in Heathfield, East Sussex and are always keen on hearing others' experience.
@colingilham1312 unfortunately not, I'm disappointed but the footfall around here is tourist based, I think it would die a death during Winter..
Hi, you mentioned previously wanting to start out but having no Money. Can I ask how you navigated this small issue? Did you raise finance through banks etc?
Good q - I was able to raise most of the money with a personal loan, and the rest from friends/family. If I were to do it again, I'd probably get a bigger loan and get professionals to help with most things, I did pretty much all the legal/application stuff myself which was a very steep learning curve... Worth it in the end though±
@@thestagandlantern Hi, when you mention 'get professionals to help with most things' what areas in particular are you referring to? I'm in the early stages of researching opening a micro pub & want to avoid any pitfalls. Ideally an 'idiots guide' would be great. If you can help point me in the right direction that would be appreciated. Thanks.
Just found this and your story resonates. I came across micro pubs in around 2013 and the idea has always stuck with me. Life for in the way but now actively pursuing the goal. So yeah keep up the videos and content.
Cheers Ross. Glad you enjoyed. I need to start posting more (I've been a bit useless over the last few months) any suggestions of videos you want to see please let me know!
Well done Rob, plane sailing from now on?
Hey Martyn, Fingers crossed we're clear from here, definitely feels a bit more normal over the last couple of months.
Love your work, mate! I’m about to start work today on a similar place in Bristol. Look forward to watching your progress as we open back up again.
Hi John, apologies for the delay in my reply. Haven't checked the channel for a while! How's things going with the place in Bristol? Best of luck!
Looking forward to being able to have a drink inside very soon and to the relaxation of the booking rule.
Us too Mike!
Looking good almost ready for the big day
Cheers Richard! See you tomorrow?
Great video, I'm looking to set up a micropub in Watford. So this was helpful, especially with you talking about a change of use. Hope to come by soon and sample some of your beers!
Cheers Michael and best of luck! I’m going to be filming the next part later today with the plan to upload early next week. Would be great to have you over for a couple beers sometime too. Cheers, Rob
I love that my favourite stool and the shelf I lean on were just cast offs you found left behind when you took the place on :) So where did the stool's sibling appear from?
Cheers James. Some things were just meant to be! (Although the shelf cast off will be replaced soon with a proper table). The stool siblings were actually from Mel's dad, he was getting rid of them and they happened to be pretty much identical! Talk about luck!
Fantastic effort Rob. So glad you survived. See you on opening day. Best wishes Dave.
Cheers Dave! Been a tough year and a bit, that's for sure. I'm sure it'll be worth it in the end! Look forward to welcoming you!
Great vid Rob, fascinating to see the transformation from then to now (the shop and also your haircut 😆)! What an amazing job you've done in that time, Hannah and I are looking forward to visiting the Stag & Lantern very soon!
Haha, thanks! I will admit, I am quite proud of how the pub looks now considering what it looked like when we started! Look forward to having you visit!
