Growing a Backyard Grocery Store

Welcome to my channel!
My urge to create this channel happened after reading the label on one of my beauty products that caused me to fear the very things that I used on a daily basis. Being fearful is not living, and it's not the way I want to think every time I head to the store to go grocery shopping. In efforts to change my life, I'm becoming the solution by choosing to do things differently in my home. I'm not sure where this is going, but it feels good, and that's a sure sign that I'm on the right track.
I hope you will join me in making life simple with my version of creating a backyard grocery store in an urban homestead setting. It doesn't matter what stage of life you're in, whether you're wanting to grow right in your backyard, apartment or mobile traveling situation.
I hope you will choose to join me on this journey to learn how to create your own urban homestead, no matter how big or small.

❤❤❤Thank youuuuu ❤❤❤
You're welcome! And Yes God Is!
Thank you! Love the video and God bless you!
ice 🧊 on your seeds it work.
I’m gonna try again
You definitely should. Sometimes you may need seeds from somewhere else like SeedNeeds.com since DL may be sold out. But get a spray bottle and spray daily, enough to dampen the soil since the seeds are so small. I no longer use the bags due to avoiding dampening disease. The spray bottle and heating pad are more than enough. I hope this helps.
Congratulations!!!!
Thank you!
Thank you for the video! I was wondering how it would work out to use an oatmeal container because I've saved several.
Wow🎉
I'm going to start praying for my lavender 'cause it hasn't been working out for me and I am sad about it 😢 thank you for your advice 🙏
You're welcome! I've been doing that... We have not because we ask not...
THANK YOU!!! I just stratified my seeds or whatever that's called, and im so happy i saved some seeds just in case! ❤ ill keep my fridge seeds and do another batch with this method
God bless you!❤
May the peace of the Lord be with you.
@backyardgrocerygarden Thank you! I'll take it! May the peace of God be with you also sister!!!❤
@@nunofyourbizness5975 💞You're welcome and Thank you!
I did something similar after some failed attempts to cold stratify my seeds. Only, I didn’t soak the seeds. I just directly sowed the seeds and put my pot on a heating mat with a humidity dome. I’ve got more lavender germinating than I know what to do with now ❤
Thank you for sharing your experience for others to benefit!
I appreciate you sharing your experience germinating your lavender seeds I tried the stratified method way too long and sometimes doesn’t work I’m going to try it your way thanks for the info
Glad you found the info useful. I hope it works out for you. Don't give up! Sometimes, it's the seeds, soil or way you're watering. The seeds are so tiny that they can sink further into the soil. So spraying it daily I found works best.
I’m in tears! Thank you for this post and the encouragement to keep trying
Yo no puedo ni sembrar papas 😢😢😢😢
😖
God bless you my Sister. May God continue to bless un abundance.
Thank you
How many seeds per container
Hi there, put as many as you want. Just make sure the seeds are not right up on each other. Just like out in nature, the plants are usually right next to each other, but not crammed together. Once they grow more than 2 leaves or more, you can separate them if you think you need it. If not, just leave them until they get larger and have established more leaves and larger in size before you transplant to a larger pot. I only separate them if they are right up on each other, like shoulder to shoulder with someone. The more room they have, the larger the plants will grow. I hope that helps.
yep you right.
OH MY..this gives me HOPE FOR Lavender germination and faith on other levels. Thank you!
uptuned plastic fork great idea for holding labels hope you are still out there gardening ATB 🤔 👍
Since this was 3 yrs ago have you repeated your success?
Great question. Yes, more were able to germinate this year from DT and Seed Needs, but I've made a few changes. I no longer soak in water due to the size of the seeds. It's easier to handle smaller size when they are dry. No more sandwich bags either. I use a spray bottle to get the surface moist, not wet. I still use the heating mat but inside of a cooler. I make sure to open the cooler every evening to air it out so dampening off does not occur and/or use a fan when open. The cooler helps to achieve the same thing as the soaking and sandwich bags, but with the seed on the soil. I wait until 1 seed germinates and then remove out of cooler and place under a light to avoid the plants becoming leggy. Then I continue to spray the surface while under lights daily until more seeds sprout. About once a week I spray only the seeds that I'm waiting on to germinate with white vinegar and water(about 1-2 tablespoons to 1 spray bottle) to kill any bacteria(dampening off) trying to develop. I know it was a long answer, but there is no simple yes or no. Also, a viewer shared that Dollar Tree stratify their seeds. I was blessed to have both DT and Seed Needs Lavender variety pack germinate. It took up to 3 weeks to sprout. I hope this helps.
Thank you!!
Wow you are the "Joel Olsteen" of gardening.
Wow this is amazing!!!
Thank you so much God blessed you
Thanks for this video. I bought those same seeds from Dollar Tree and planted them a month ago. I got zero results! I will try your method.
You are so right as I’ve never been able to get my lavender seeds to grow either. I will definitely try it Thanks Mandy UK 🇬🇧
Blessings sister!
God is always in control!
we planted some DG lavendar two days ago...i looked it up to make sure...they come PRE-stratified.
I have been growing Lavender for a long time I'm glad you had good luck with them but all you need to do Lavender is just put them on top of your soil pat them down put them on a heat mat and give them light and they will grow
3 years and you just pop back up You owe explanation just kidding! God bless so glad you are back uploading
I felt your testimony young lady..keep going and growing!!
Some seeds can last WAYYYYY longer than they say so always test before you throw away or just keep them because you never know Good luck, fingers are crossed for you!!!💓🎉
for the seeds in the water, did you leave them in a dark or sunny area? or does that not matter? also thx for the video! really helpful and informative!!! :))
Glad it was helpful! It doesn't matter. As long as you soak it and put it on a heating pad. The goal is to monitor the seeds to see if they swell, but also keep them in a warm humid condition until they break out of the seed. Soon as 25 to 50% germinate out of the seed, get them out of the humid condition, remove heating pad, and get them under a grow light. Still make sure the room has some kind of warmth to make sure you avoid damping off disease. If you want to wait a day or so to remove them off the heating pad to make sure the soil isn't too wet, I would encourage that as well. But make sure to remove them from humidity... The seed germinating is one thing, getting them past the damping off is another. I hope this helps.
Such good encouragement, not only gardening-wise, but spiritually. I plan to try starting a garden this year to help support my family and to learn new skills I was never taught so that I can teach them to my baby as she grows. Please pray God would bless the fruit of my hands for His glory and our good. God bless you, sister!
@backyardgrocerygarden Thank you so much for praying! The Lord has encouraged me SO well, and at the perfect time. I am so excited to say that, even after dropping my growing container on the floor and having to sweep everything back in 🤦♀️ I have TWO lavender sprouts! They're Itty-bitty yet (just discovered them today), but man, my heart was so blessed to see them. Good reminders that: 1. All things that succeed in life are the Lord's doing, not mine (yet even if they hadn't or don't make it, He is still faithful) and 2. If He wants it to grow, even dumping it won't stop God's hand! 🤣 Thank you again, sister! God bless you!
I’m so glad I found your video! I got the exact same seed packs and I have had difficulty with lavender in the past. Thought for a quarter a pack, why not?! 😂 I’m going to try it your way!
You're welcome! I'm starting to suspect that it's something to do with the seeds of this plant variety in general. It's best to just use the whole seed packet. Don't try to plant a few seeds. I just tested out another brand and realized some grew, a lot didn't. So don't be afraid to use up the seeds but also have the right growing conditions. I hope this helps.
Hey, I also hoard seeds 😂 I have some a decade old. Did you know MIGardener on RUclips got seeds almost a century old and he got 1 tomato to grow. Bringing back a variety of tomatoes that went extinct;
We have to remember that just because everything else is growing around us, and we aren't, it doesn't mean that it not right on schedule.
So what was the result?
I just posted the current results. I'm still testing until I get them in the ground/pots, to see how much fruit develops. The L.A.B. only roots grew the best.
Thank you for sharing with us❤
You're welcome!
Thanks for watching as I just chitchat about what I'm growing, hoarding seeds and finally planting, my past seed starting failures, and what I'm doing differently now. 🌱What have you changed with your seed starting that made it work for you? #seedstarting #startingseedsinjanuary #seeds
This post is two years old but right on time! I was searching for an instructional video on RUclips because I'm thinking of growing lavender and your video came up in my search. Thank you for your wonderful tips on growing lavender...but THANK YOU more for the inspirational message that truly touched my heart!
You're very welcome!
STRATIFYING SEEDS NEVER MEANS TO FREEZE THEM!!! Freezing damages the seeds. You're supposed to put them in the FRIDGE. They do germinate without stratification, but the rate is far lower then if you stratify
Great video. I have been successful with growing lavender but loved the ease with which you did your seeds. Did you change the water daily and did you put the water container on the heat mat or just left it out at room temperatuure.
Thank you. The seeds remained on the heating mat and I didn't change the water. I hope this helps. Thank you for watching!
PLASTIC NETTING???
Yes. They are referred to as PLA plastic or PLA netting. I'm pinning this comment, so I hope that text in the video doesn't cause confusion.
Fruit is coming!!! I can take that scenario with weight loss when you turn a certain age and your metabolism slows down. Keep working and don’t give it. Thanks!!
So true!
Aren’t you clever!!! Thanks for sharing.
I have that fan but it’s much smaller that I purchased from Amazon as well. I have my solar panel on top of my roof. I love it but I’m going to have to get a shade cloth because that greenhouse of mine gets HOT. Thanks for sharing all your. I’m hoping that after you pick the diseased leaves that you remove them from the soil and get rid of it and don’t put it in your compost.
RB, I was literally thinking the same thing about the shade cloth and the greenhouse!!! Thank you for that tip as well!!! I'm applying the Korean Farming LAB to the soil and plants, in hopes of balancing the good and bad bacteria, kinda like what eating unpasteurized yogurt is suppose to do in our gut. That's my thought process as least, but it doesn't make it fact. But I'm definitely going to heed wisdom!
