      You definitely should. Sometimes you may need seeds from somewhere else like SeedNeeds.com since DL may be sold out. But get a spray bottle and spray daily, enough to dampen the soil since the seeds are so small. I no longer use the bags due to avoiding dampening disease. The spray bottle and heating pad are more than enough. I hope this helps.

    I did something similar after some failed attempts to cold stratify my seeds. Only, I didn’t soak the seeds. I just directly sowed the seeds and put my pot on a heating mat with a humidity dome. I’ve got more lavender germinating than I know what to do with now ❤

      Glad you found the info useful. I hope it works out for you. Don't give up! Sometimes, it's the seeds, soil or way you're watering. The seeds are so tiny that they can sink further into the soil. So spraying it daily I found works best.

    How many seeds per container

    • @backyardgrocerygarden
      @backyardgrocerygarden 4 месяца назад

      Hi there, put as many as you want. Just make sure the seeds are not right up on each other. Just like out in nature, the plants are usually right next to each other, but not crammed together. Once they grow more than 2 leaves or more, you can separate them if you think you need it. If not, just leave them until they get larger and have established more leaves and larger in size before you transplant to a larger pot. I only separate them if they are right up on each other, like shoulder to shoulder with someone. The more room they have, the larger the plants will grow. I hope that helps.

    • @backyardgrocerygarden
      @backyardgrocerygarden 4 месяца назад

      Great question. Yes, more were able to germinate this year from DT and Seed Needs, but I've made a few changes. I no longer soak in water due to the size of the seeds. It's easier to handle smaller size when they are dry. No more sandwich bags either. I use a spray bottle to get the surface moist, not wet. I still use the heating mat but inside of a cooler. I make sure to open the cooler every evening to air it out so dampening off does not occur and/or use a fan when open. The cooler helps to achieve the same thing as the soaking and sandwich bags, but with the seed on the soil. I wait until 1 seed germinates and then remove out of cooler and place under a light to avoid the plants becoming leggy. Then I continue to spray the surface while under lights daily until more seeds sprout. About once a week I spray only the seeds that I'm waiting on to germinate with white vinegar and water(about 1-2 tablespoons to 1 spray bottle) to kill any bacteria(dampening off) trying to develop. I know it was a long answer, but there is no simple yes or no. Also, a viewer shared that Dollar Tree stratify their seeds. I was blessed to have both DT and Seed Needs Lavender variety pack germinate. It took up to 3 weeks to sprout. I hope this helps.

    for the seeds in the water, did you leave them in a dark or sunny area? or does that not matter? also thx for the video! really helpful and informative!!! :))

    • @backyardgrocerygarden
      @backyardgrocerygarden 5 месяцев назад

      Glad it was helpful! It doesn't matter. As long as you soak it and put it on a heating pad. The goal is to monitor the seeds to see if they swell, but also keep them in a warm humid condition until they break out of the seed. Soon as 25 to 50% germinate out of the seed, get them out of the humid condition, remove heating pad, and get them under a grow light. Still make sure the room has some kind of warmth to make sure you avoid damping off disease. If you want to wait a day or so to remove them off the heating pad to make sure the soil isn't too wet, I would encourage that as well. But make sure to remove them from humidity... The seed germinating is one thing, getting them past the damping off is another. I hope this helps.

    Such good encouragement, not only gardening-wise, but spiritually. I plan to try starting a garden this year to help support my family and to learn new skills I was never taught so that I can teach them to my baby as she grows. Please pray God would bless the fruit of my hands for His glory and our good. God bless you, sister!

      @backyardgrocerygarden Thank you so much for praying! The Lord has encouraged me SO well, and at the perfect time. I am so excited to say that, even after dropping my growing container on the floor and having to sweep everything back in 🤦‍♀️ I have TWO lavender sprouts! They're Itty-bitty yet (just discovered them today), but man, my heart was so blessed to see them. Good reminders that: 1. All things that succeed in life are the Lord's doing, not mine (yet even if they hadn't or don't make it, He is still faithful) and 2. If He wants it to grow, even dumping it won't stop God's hand! 🤣 Thank you again, sister! God bless you!

    • @backyardgrocerygarden
      @backyardgrocerygarden 5 месяцев назад

      You're welcome! I'm starting to suspect that it's something to do with the seeds of this plant variety in general. It's best to just use the whole seed packet. Don't try to plant a few seeds. I just tested out another brand and realized some grew, a lot didn't. So don't be afraid to use up the seeds but also have the right growing conditions. I hope this helps.

    STRATIFYING SEEDS NEVER MEANS TO FREEZE THEM!!! Freezing damages the seeds. You're supposed to put them in the FRIDGE. They do germinate without stratification, but the rate is far lower then if you stratify

    I have that fan but it’s much smaller that I purchased from Amazon as well. I have my solar panel on top of my roof. I love it but I’m going to have to get a shade cloth because that greenhouse of mine gets HOT. Thanks for sharing all your. I’m hoping that after you pick the diseased leaves that you remove them from the soil and get rid of it and don’t put it in your compost.

    • @backyardgrocerygarden
      @backyardgrocerygarden 6 месяцев назад

      RB, I was literally thinking the same thing about the shade cloth and the greenhouse!!! Thank you for that tip as well!!! I'm applying the Korean Farming LAB to the soil and plants, in hopes of balancing the good and bad bacteria, kinda like what eating unpasteurized yogurt is suppose to do in our gut. That's my thought process as least, but it doesn't make it fact. But I'm definitely going to heed wisdom!
