Well as a 65 yo I have worked on and modified a lot of cars. My first car being a 72 Duster that was modded and used as a street racer. I have always bought M opar except for one Chevy. I still own all my cats except for three. I still have my 70 Challenger and 70 GTX that I bought in the late 70s. We had a name for engines like this piece of crap. This thing is badly engineered and proofing to be unreliable. The Hemis for the most part were built pretty good My second new car I ever bought and still own is an 09 Challenger 5.7 6-speed Tremec. It has the STP package. Also 209000 miles with original clutch. The engine has never been into. Drives and handles like new. Even looks new inside and out.I take meticulous care of all my cars. I don`t think I could nurse this engine to 100000 miles. Cut your losses and end this turd.
What a shame. Need a warranty to own it and what a pain to be without your vehicle. Wouldn't touch one.
This is so disappointing. I've been so excited for the Hurricane engine since it was announced. But, this and the no dipstick is making me double and triple think owning. If contamination is causing this during the manufacturing or assembling process, then RAM needs to do better. Merci
Stop picking up the turbo with the waste gate rod.
I'm betting the turbos are trashed by the oil with the coolant in it
And to think, i almost traded in my 2024 Limited 1500 for a 2025 limited, sure glad i didnt
Remove the body to get to the engine...lol. You know no aftermarket brand is going to risk making thermostats for these knowing there may be a multi thousand dollar labor claim coming if it fails.
OMG so many failure points
*Holly trash , dont buy , run away Lemon pos , junk waste of money*
You see this less or more often with the HO engines?
I think some of the responsibility is on the owner. Obviously the over temp was visible to the driver
New designs in anything can have bugs. A thermostat doesn't mean the whole engine is a problem. Obviously the owner should have seen the overheat warning on the dashboard and continued to drive it until it was damaged.
@@wysetech2000 I showed in video how badly the engine is warped on all cylinders not just like one cylinder from a simple engine overheat. I wish I I showed in the video the head bolts are so tiny and pathetic so I have to disagree with you this a very poorly designed engine.
possibly, but shouldn't RAM have a limp mode for such situations?? Most modern engines do... to prevent catastrophic results.
Incredible shame there wasn't room for a dipstick. That will cost them sales.
Do you have to take the whole cab off to replace the 6.4L engine also?
Yes they say in service procedure to remove the cab for the 6.4 as well you Gotta remove the cab for all ram trucks as well for all engine options
Thanks for the reply . Hopefully my 6.4 GW won’t have to go under the knife ever like that. I trust the 6.4 WAYYY more than that problematic hurricane motor. Plus, the hemi sounds much better !
@@Joblessparadise ... you should be good. As long as you do oil changes often and use a HIGH quality full synthetic oil. The 6.4 is really a strong reliable engine.
All this and they do not get significantly better gas mileage than the old Hemis.
@@cnchess yes I agree it’s ridiculous there was no need for change. Chrsyler was always stuck in caveman times while ford has their thing with the ecoboost engines. Chevy still has V8s in all their trucks I don’t understand why we had to change to this new design it’s very sad…
imagine thoses engines in a charger, that would be a pain... they should have kept the 3.6 and boost it like it was supposed to with DI... sure the 3.6 had some issues but nothing too crazy. the Chrysler 3.5 was a strong engine too! I have both of them one with 209000km for the 3.5 and 44000km in the 3.6. I'm considering upgrading most of the plastic part with aluminum on the 3.6, Dorman have a wide range of replacment part. the 3.5 is mostly aluminium so no issues there. GM did the same bad decision, they built the 3.8, fantastic engine! then the 3.5 was really good too but detuned sadly, both were hard to destroy, then came the 3.6...
@@ItsJust2SXTs I agree man we should have designed a 3.6 pentastar with DI and turbos maybe downsized to a 3.0 and would have been a great competitor to the ford ecoboost and still keep our hemi just like how ford still has an available 5.0 engine option this brands new engine design is just not the way to go the Chrysler engineers don’t even know how to fix these horrible engines. When I got this car it threw a check engine light for ignition coil circuit low codes on 2 and 5 the service procedure wanted me to check a bunch of electrical related things and it was completely misleading proving CDJR engineers have no idea what they are doing. I put that in my story for this vehicle that the engineers need to change the software for pcm for these engines to throw a dtc that actually relates to the problem.
@@ItsJust2SXTs this engine is gonna be completely unserviceable in the new charger it’s gonna be engine out for most of the repairs
Chrysler made a concept TT 3.6 for a potential SRT-6 Journey with AWD; that engine is probably gathering dust at the tech center in a corner somewhere 😂
Thanks guys for all the questions. there is a recall for this issue that only affects 5,100 vehicles. Which is complete BS. It obviously affects every single one ever made with this engine. The cause of the thermostat failure from Chrysler Engineers is “The Thermostat Ball Valve drive pin may fail due to contamination” The recall name is 26B-thermostat People have been posting a lot of online of little pieces of plastic getting jammed inside the thermostat itself.
I will make a follow up video whenever I get another 3.0 hurricane with similar issues I wanna go over how the check engine light codes are completely misleading when it comes to an engine misfire. These Chrysler engineers have absolutely no clue what they are doing.
@@alexanderardelean5001 in short, the design is crap. And I think this is just the beginning.

Warranty?
@@jimmy_olds yes it was goodwilled for a major company but thermostats are only covered under basic warranty and this vehicle only had powertrain coverage… can’t say more than that so I don’t loose my job
@ I understand👊🏼Well, I hope you’re getting decent time! Looks like a tough job.
@@jimmy_olds 10 hours base pay hopefully I can get atleast 15 with teardown and a/c evac and recharge we are getting screwed over very badly as techs. Took me 3 days cus it’s brand new but this a 2 day job easily without any help.
@ that’s crazy, man. How many bays do you work out of? I used to be a collision tech, not quite the same, but those big jobs could be a pain in the a$$.
@@jimmy_olds I only have one bay unfortunately. but the dealer I work at is probably one of the best run CDJR dealers in the country we have 50 plus technicians. I make pretty much $100k a year with only 1 bay so I’m very happy with where I work considering the horrible brand we work for. And I don’t upsell any gravy BS services I work really hard doing a bunch of warranty work mainly. I’m specialized in transmission concerns with our ZF 8 speed transmission that’s now in all our vehicles. I’m very honest with all my customers and I really want to open up my own shop soon in the area so I can save customers thousands from the crazy dealer rate that are getting to almost 300 an hour nowadays.
Failures already?"Hemi V8's, please come back!"
If OB-GYN doctors did Yountube channels you'd never want to have children. Dealer service departments for all brands stay open because stuff breaks...Toyota and Lexus too!!
Hemi V8 camshaft eaters.
"Take off the oil cap and you can see that this engine is finished". A simple pull of a dipstick could confirm that though these engines don't even have one!
Cheap Chinese plastic. I see lots of failures in another year or 2.
Another cheap plastic part and its contents killing a high dollar engine.
Seriously, why do they keep doing this! Bad reputation and warranty work are not worth saving a few pennies on plastic. Ram has so many reputation issues, that they cannot absorb like Toyota has with their new junker engines.
No evidence was presented in this video that the material selection is the root cause of the failure. There is obviously something failing in the thermostat, but it could be any number of things besides the decision to use plastic for the housing.
The thermostat alone can be changed without taking body off correct? Through the driver side wheel well? Is there a TSB/procedure on how to do this? I am assuming because the block and head were warped due to overheat that’s why you are pulling the entire engine?
@@GPMAX01 yes you take off driver side fender liner and you can replace the thermostat very hard job though recommend using magnetic t30 bit or else you will loose the bolts and yes replacing engine because block deck is warped which was shown in the video
@ thanks man. Do you happen to have the new updated part number for the thermostat?
@@alexanderardelean5001 Do you think this is caused due to the plastic thermostat housing or some other failure. I only ask cause I've seen plastic thermostat housings/water pumps on bmw's fail due to age or what have you and were prone to getting cracked from the heat cycles. Do you think replacing with a metal variant would damn near fix this problem or is it too early to tell in you're opinion
@@GPMAX01 looks like part number has not been superseded gotta give them time to make a new design. but this is the part number 68672901AA
@@Ctwalton15there is a recall for this issue on only 5,100 vehicles which is stupid it affects way more cars but anyway it says in the recall “The Thermostat Ball Valve drive pin may fail due to contamination” this is Chryslers engineers stating this.
Thx! Would this work for Jeep 2018 compass sport?
I'm driving a grand jeep Cherokee rental with round knob. When I press engine off and try to exit it tells me ignition is on. Then I have to restart it and turn it off. Weird 😢
Is this the same for a 2013 Grand Cherokee?
I just replaced my rear air bags because of a left side leak, but it’s still sagging on the left side. Did I just waste my money and time on these bags or do I need to do something more?
I replaced the auxiliary battery and then the battery on the dash started reading low voltage to the point where the jeep isn’t even turning on
If we keep out of aero and entry/exit are we better off usually?
I replaced blown rear air shock. Can I vacuum pump the system to evacuate moister, and recharge with nitrogen without scan tool, and if so what pressure is the system full at?
I believe it's 175 I just did mine today.
Thanks. I worked all day and sprayed everything. I dropped the suspension and found the leak
Thanks so much fir this helpful video. I was just going to let my car die b/c it wouldn't shut all the way off, you saved me a tow trip
It worked😍thank u dude I replaced number 3 to number number 4, but how long can I use it? Because the dealer doesn’t have the fuse yet.
You should be good until the new fuse comes in just replace it when you can
can a broke valve spring also cause cylinder 6 misfire p0306 ?
Tengo una 2013 y me dice “vehicule not in park y no quiere prender, le puse batería nueva y alternador nuevo y nada.
Mine says that and doesn't want to turn on.
This was very helpful in the middle of the night to turn my car off. I had to use the screw driver to reach it. Thank you
Fantastic content 👌 👏 👍
Why is my 2018 ram 1/2 ton air suspension sagged in front right down but back is fully inflated , giving raising and lowering lights on dash ? Was cold. Is this a bad battery issue ? A reset the system issue. or Is this a repair issue
Your right front strut is leaking you need to find the leak and determine if you need the right front strut to be replaced or you have a leak in a air line completely different issue than what is stated in this video…
@@alexanderardelean5001 Ok , thanks I was wondering if it was the distribution box or what ? Thx
So a few things i have leared about running this system on my 14 ram 1500 is the rear air bags last 5-6 years in my climate (manitoba canada). And if you have a system that is freezing up in winter, remove the right taillight and put 5ml of air brake antifreeze down the hose, and that fixes that. This time around im going with one aftermarket air bag and one cheap Chinese one off ebay. I want to see how it holds up. It looks the same so time will tell i guess. And when i swap air bags i dont bring it to the dealer to fill it up. I just let the compresser do the work. I love the air ride system, just dont care for the rear bags that dont last.
how is the comparsion of bags doing?

in other video with exactly the same issue they resolved it changing the transmission harness, so i have the same problem today im going to try all of this...
2019 ram 1500 limited with 80,000 kms and I need new rear air suspension, quoted at 4000 to repair, why has dodge not solved this problem yet, better yet why does dodge still continue to make and sell this system? It's complete garbage!!!
Yes guys, that's right. Exact same story. I checked it in the fully raised position and thats why i can not detect a leak. After watching your video, i realized whats happened. Now i know, my both rear bags are leaking. I found on amazon, guys who have 12 month warranty just for 279$ for both side. Thank you guys. Drive safe. God bless you all
How did the Amazon bags workout for you?
On a 60k miles, during transportation f250 was blown left side bag. Every mile was cowered in towing mode, with not so light loads. We bought it again from those guys. 20k miles is already covered. As you understand, the car is using just in working mode.

Very informative video, the image is crystal clear and the narration is great and easy to follow. To remedy the fault you replaced all the module which house the switch. Is this the only way to fix this fault? is there is a less expensive solution to fix this problem?
Unfortunately no you have to go ahead and bite the bullet and pay for the whole shifter assembly
