VI. Siren and VII. Conclusion (Sentiments, Op. 3) by Grant Dersom Leading one right into the other, these last two movements close Opus 3. V. Waltz (Sentiments, Op. 3) by Grant Dersom Due to the "Mirror", we see in this movement the reflection of III. Solitude; what was an isolated piece, is now a dance for two. Reflection point - Dersom: IV. Mirror (Sentiments, Op. 3)
Просмотров 1694 месяца назад
IV. Mirror (Sentiments, Op. 3) by Grant Dersom This is the centerpoint of the suite, and comprises two forms of reflection: - the concept of reflection, with harplike upward motion giving a sense of a surface, or maybe rippling water - a thematic reflection: we take the theme from I. Prelude, juxtapose it with the future theme from VII. Conclusion, and transition from I.'s theme to VII.'s theme...

Baroque fusion - Dersom: II. Gavotte-March (Sentiments, Op. 3)

II. Gavotte March (Sentiments, Op. 3) by Grant Dersom This second movement from the Suite is reminiscent of a Baroque-style Gavotte, but takes a more powerful turn, necessitating the addition of "-March". A new journey - Dersom: I. Prelude (Sentiments, Op. 3)
Просмотров 2534 месяца назад
I. Prelude (Sentiments, Op. 3) by Grant Dersom This is the first movement from Sentiments, Op. 3 (Suite in A minor) which I'll publish in the near future. The movement relies heavily on motific repetition, using the same theme over and over in different, but highly ornate ways. It sets the stage for the rather melancholic Suite, propping up a theme that will reappear later in the set. For new v...

Really great waltz by Liszt! And really well played, I feel like I can really hear the Chopin influence in this one
Thanks for sharing this wonderful piece!! What a wonderful interpretation as well. I hope to encounter more unknown pieces by composers.
I suggest Liszt Romance in E minor
Stanchinsky was one of the best and most potentional composers of early 20th century!
"Was this composed by chopin?" "Yesn't."
I don't mind if you don't want to share your secrets, but you please mind sharing specifically what virtual piano are you using? This sounds amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you! I use Garritan CFX: www.garritan.com/products/cfx-concert-grand-virtual-piano/ There's also the CFX Lite, which honestly sounds about the same and is far less pricey.
Where is the sheet music ?? I want to play it please😢❤ Marvelous
I love the hidden masterpieces series! Love finding new pieces I haven’t heard before
How about Glinka's Mazurka in C minor for the next upload?
Ooh interesting, I'll check out that piece!
Hi everyone! This upload is part of a new-ish series called Hidden Masterpieces - discovering excellent but little-known pieces. If you'd like to hear more, the playlist is here: ruclips.net/p/PLd24CIFAHXuCUjADnTo62uX6g7X_QQ-cd&si=mF0XluFeOBLB-iM2
Great
Beautifull Chopin Piece
GOSH I LOVE ALL OF THEM❤ I wish I could compose like that😅
Its op 41 no 2
No, it's no 1.
Very very good.
I thought the "Adieu" waltz was op 69 no 1?
Hello! This isn't the "Adieu" ("farewell") Op. 69 No. 1, this is "La partenza" ("the departure") KK Vb/6 Similar nicknames, but one is more related to a farewell exchange, and the other the act of leaving. Also, "La partenza" comes from a name written above an 1828 surviving copy of the first few measures Sources: chopin.nifc.pl/en/chopin/kompozycja/285 www.pianosociety.com/pages/chopinwaltzes/ en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_compositions_by_Fr%C3%A9d%C3%A9ric_Chopin_by_genre#Known_lost_works
Got recommended this again and I just have too say I’m so furious that composers like you slip under the radar with pieces like this. It’s absurd! And I constantly get recommended uninspiring, boring and naive shit waltzes by wannabe Chopins that have thousands of views. It’s just so unfair and I don’t understand. All this skill just to be beaten by some half baked nonsense in viewers and likes. Maybe people just prefer quantity over quality.
This made my day! I do wish the algorithm was more favorable, but there is a silver lining: having been a bit of a wannabe Chopin myself, not having the videos blow up kept me from being arrogant, fostering a more detailed self-critique. Hopefully, recommendations do improve over time. I've seen other folks on RUclips who upload really interesting pieces - if the algorithm starts kicking in, I think there's potential for the future of the classical genre to be impacted by a wave of new composers.
Oh yes, it’s a hidden masterpiece!! I have to keep that in mind 😏
Very nice! I have never heard of this composer before, thanks for introducing them to me!
Sure thing!
😢
Is there sheet music for this piece?
@@Idk-rf5cg Hey there! There isn't yet (well, sort of) - I've finished a draft, but am still cleaning it up and getting it ready for release
how is this so underrated like how THIS IS SO GOOD
I haven’t listened to much Borodin, but this was very pretty, I might have to listen to some more
Cool - if you're interested in a suggestion, I really like his second string quartet (especially the first two movements)
your use of chromaticism is truly wonderful, there are a lot of magical moments in this set
Thanks!
Wow I really loved the unique and light fleeting no.6. And I love how you included fragments of the other pieces of the set in no.7, it’s like a reflection of life experiences of the past. Just curious what will you will compose for opus 4
Cool, glad you liked how the Opus finished! For Opus 4 - we will see :)
I realy enjoyed this an the opus! I realy like the ideas that are through the opus of incoprprating themes from the other pieces in the opus. I also realy liked the counterpoint used, beatifully done!
Thank you!
That's all for Opus 3 - hope you enjoyed it, and thanks for listening! Next I'm going to get the sheet music + book finished, plus an album. I'll let you know once those are done! Watch the Opus again here: ruclips.net/p/PLd24CIFAHXuA29xEG5wH7xYyyWwBnfo7E&si=cQAV_yvTN-oIOkMv
This guy is so underated
This is so good, love it!
Woah, what a beautiful gem, I’m listening to ur Op.3 and this is my favourite so far
this is very pretty :) so underrated. seems so easy to play as well ill learn it.
Fantastic work as always! This opus is going great
Ooh! Waltzes are my favorite form of classical music
Beautiful waltz 👌
Glad you enjoyed it!
I realy like the reflection aspect of reflecting the theme from I and VII. It also gives a taste of whats to come with VII. Realy good, i enjoyed it a lot!
Really like this one 👌 keep up the hard work
Wow this is great! I realy like the harmonies and the texture
I had another melody in mind, just at the first hearing of the intro, I immediately composed the whole piece in my head
can you release the sheet for this one?
Not quite yet - the sheet music is still pretty rough around the edges. But I have some ideas for an Opus with this piece in it, so I'll probably release the sheet music once that set is ready
@@grantdersom if you can please also compose the other Chopin lost waltz. I think many would love to play those "hypothetical" opus.
I love it! I like the idea of fusing forms, it's interesting. How many pieces are there in the suite
There are seven movements! Though the last two are fused together without stopping, so there will be six falling notes videos. By the way, I've added a handy diagram for the suite to the Community tab in case you'd like to check it out: m.youtube.com/@grantdersom/community
Your best work by far!!
Always love your original work, Grant. Your music has influenced me even subconsciously as I improvise. I’m in the process of composing some themes for a film of mine and you will surely be put on the credits as an inspiration. I’d also love to ask if film scoring is something you’re ever interested in pursuing? It would be a dream of mine work with you one day in scoring some future projects.
Hey Kyle, it's so cool to hear how the music has inspired you. For now the plan is to focus on writing piano music and books, BUT I'm hoping things take off one day, and then I'd have more time to explore things like film scoring
Yay new original compositions! Can't wait to hear the rest, I realy enjoyed this one! Will the sheet music be available like the other opuses in the future?
Yes it will be! I'll have another book for Opus 3, plus probably another ebook giveaway when it's close to ready. (Right now the sheet music is a mess though, so first I have some cleaning up to do 😂)
@@grantdersom Great, can’t wait!
Hey folks, for the next few weeks, I'll be uploading each movement from Sentiments! Next week will be II. Gavotte-March
Long time no see Grant! How have you been?
Hey Ethan! Doing good, how about you? Working on some new compositions?
Haven’t heard this one before! Realy beautiful! I’m also realy excited to see what you have in store with opus 3, can’t wait!
Hope you enjoyed the midi map/section timestamp updates! I've made these changes in anticipation of Opus 3, which I hope to start uploads for later this month! I'll make a Community post with more details once things are finalized...
If he had finished this waltz, I'm wondering if it would've been his 2nd piece in D minor. Literally the only other piece that he had written in D minor (that I can remember) was his 24th Prelude. Also that middle section from Etude Op. 10 No. 8 is in D minor but the actual piece is in F major so that doesn't count.
Interesting point! Thought I'd dig into it - found a list of his works here: imslp.org/wiki/List_of_works_by_Fr%C3%A9d%C3%A9ric_Chopin There's actually also a polonaise in d minor: m.ruclips.net/video/cliAMwV-qWo/видео.html A vocal piece in d minor: m.ruclips.net/video/oyphE3m8aJM/видео.html And a curious allegretto and Mazurka sequence, with the Mazurka being in d minor: m.ruclips.net/video/yegb6QaFNE8/видео.html
@@grantdersom Thanks! It's quite interesting to see more of Chopin's pieces that are in D Minor.
Thank you so much for this music! I’m gonna go learn it now :)
Sure thing, and have fun!
Can we expect some new compositions from you anytime soon?
Yes actually! I'm very close to wrapping up Opus 3, though a massive rewrite of the second movement is taking quite a bit of time. I'm a little picky about making sure everything is as good as it can be, plus doing this when I get some free time, can cause things to take a while sometimes haha. But to give you a little more info, in case it piques your interest: Opus 3 is a Suite in A minor. Oh and I'm hoping to have uploads for it ready in April, but fingers crossed!
Maybe not so soon, but can I have permission to play most (or all if i can) of these pieces for my youtube channel?
Sure that'd be really cool! For now, as long as they're live performance style videos (not falling notes, midi rendering, or sheet music, etc.) and they're not used commercially or unethically that's fine with me.
