This was definitely one of those trips where you wished the trip lasted at least a day longer, but spending a day hiking, camping, and cooking food is always good for the spirit. Thanks for watching! Sometimes we all think about getaways as extended trips, but this short overnighter proved to be just as refreshing and enjoyable as a long one. We packed our 2nd Gen Tundra with essentials where we camped, hiked, and swam at McGee Creek State Park in Oklahoma! Thanks for watching! That trail is no freaking joke. Went in the clockwise direction last year and literally almost died.
I made the loop in 13 hours about 5 weeks ago. It was hard. The footing is treacherous in so many places. And dang! It was hot!
3:33 The point at which you tackle the mountain ridges along the Big Athens Fork section of the trail depends on both the direction you go, but also where you start on the trail. There are multiple trail heads from which you can start. If you start at West Blaylock Creek, which is right in the middle of the ridges on BAF, you get half of the peaks on your first day and the other half on your last day regardless of the direction you go. 5:00 If you have excess water in your meal, you can walk away from your camp (at least 100 feet, but probably a bit further is better) and 200 feet from any water source, dig a cat hole, strain your meal into the cat hole, then bury it. Good hiking. It's an amazing trail.
Love the video
Nice video, I’ve been wanting to try backpacking, thinking of doing the lone star trail at the Sam Houston national Forrest in Texas , hopefully in 2024. I’ll check out your gear video
It will be reliable under extreme conditions……..just take care of it.
You forgot fajita nachos!
Great video ERL is such a great trip.
Nice rig!
Awesome job. I’ll be going out there in a couple months. I did this trail a few years ago for my first backpacking trip as well. Definitely a rough one for a first timer. Had me questioning my decisions, but it’s started a hobby for me that I love.
I’ve been back packing for about five years now. You have some really good stuff on your first time out. I have the same backpack. I’ve been using it for about four years I’m not totally thrilled with it. I have a couple other backpacks that I like to take that carry a load a little bit better. You have a couple items that I don’t have. Most notably a very light battery charger. Two areas I think you can get very light very quickly are your sleep pad and cook kit. Literally you could get those two things for under $100 and basically shed probably a pound and a half.
There are better bumper options than the ARB, IMO. Arb really kills the approach. Something like the SLEE shortbus would be my pick.
Sweet thanks for the perspective! I’ll have to check it out.
Brother it's cool to see people getting into back packing...go ahead and plan for the AT....whoop whoop
That was a Dobinsons lift kit, not OME lift BTW. You can tell by the teal springs, but also by the fact that it says Dobinsons on it. But is it really 3" looks more like 2"?
Totally! Nice catch. I was in a hurry when I was filming. I had another clip of me saying Dobinsons but was super shaky. I caught it in edit but forgot to address it like I thought I would. Might address it in a later video! Thanks for watching
FYI you actually have a dobinsons lift kit and not old man emu 😆. nice rig
Hey thanks! Yeah I shot that clip twice me saying Dobinsons but it was shaky. Meant to add text to the scene to address it but forgot. Anyways I’ll probably address it in a later video. Thanks for watching!
Great kit!
Thanks!
The trip that ruined chicken fajita nachos forever!
lol yeah they were pretty bad and that’s because everything tastes better when your starving!
Love this video!
Thanks for watching!
Nice video! Enjoyed watching your trip!

You and me both! Thanks for watching!
Congrats, welcome to Team 80.
Thanks!
You should show us under the truck. Any rust under it.
Totally missed that! Honestly not a whole lot tho.
Lol, I’m with Lauren on this one too! More seats, more feets, more bodies, more fun? Something like that 🥲
Noted🤔
@@bensanchez09 😂 regardless, that new whip is tuff! 😭
@@javierrogers1482 Thanks
Looks exciting! I'm happy for you. Just have fun man.
Thanks will do!
@@bensanchez09hopefully you like it after spending thousands of dollars on gear 😂

Take the wood dash off! Here is how: ruclips.net/video/Ov2GyQu_BRo/видео.html
🤯that looks incredible! Thanks for the tip! That blue color looks awesome btw.
Welcome to the club sir.
Hey thank you!
Looks good sanchez
Thanks!
How much did you pay?
10k. Normally I wouldn’t disclose this but I found it hard to purchase a vehicle whenever I would watch other 80s series videos an no one would talk about price. So it was always hard for me to gage wether what I was looking at matched the price.
Please tell me the truck was beteen 10k and 20k! I have been looking for a steal in FL
It was! I did learn that under 10k and your definitely counting on some work and over 15k your looking at a more complete rig with fewer issues. That being said it’s still a 23year old Toyota Land Cruiser. Not sure what the market is like in Florida but surely it’s better than Oklahoma.
Thank you so much for the info@@bensanchez09
Get a trailer and add rooftop tent. Tear drop would be nice.
I can’t believe I’m saying this but that idea never crossed my mind! That’s an almost perfect solution to our dilema! Thanks
@@bensanchez09 yes sir trailer or teardrop with rtt fits your family and guest. Yw 👌🏾
Tear drops would fit the aesthetic very nicely! Thanks for the recommendation.
Trailer with RTT sounds like a good idea to me as well. The thoughts of popping a RTT on top of my 80 makes me cringe. Have fun
Best truck ever, primo. I just got the same car a few months ago, and I just came back from a 5k mile road trip, LA to los cabos, cross in the ferry to Mazatlan, Leon Guadalajara, cdmx, San luis potosi, Monterrey, Laredo, Roswell, Arizona, and back to LA.
No way congrats! That's inspiring man! Honestly even though my mechanic said we good and I have yet to take it on any extensive trips. I guess I'm just gonna have to set out and adventure! Thanks for watching
I’ll be the one sitting in the back row. So, I’m team Lauren! LoL
