If you're actually reading my bio, it probably means that you want to know when the next video is coming out, or if EVER comes out. So as you might have noticed by watching a couple of the bloopers sections with the making of data on each video, these things take a long time. A 2 hour long critique will take between 30-40 hours of just editing to complete, not to mention 20-30 hours just writing the script in addition to the hundreds of hours I spend playing the actual game to get a good feel for things. So considering I also have a full time 40 hour work week job, putting out a roughly 200 hour long video project can take a while. I doubt i'll ever reach the procrastination level between videos that Joseph Anderson tends to do, but I also don't have the weight of a million subscribers under my name. So no, there is no guarantee that I'll have a new video out each month. But what I can guarantee is that I'm still working on things, and hopefully bringing you a consistent product.
A Kingdoms of Amalur Re-reckoning Critique
A long form video critique for the Kingdoms of Amalur Re-reckoning release of the game that came out in 2020. Unfortunately, I did end up completing the most recent DLC release in the form of fatesworn, and simply couldn't bring myself to completing a seperate section of the review talking about how much of a sad addition it is to the game. Other than that, if you enjoyed the critique, please feel free to subscribe for more long form critique content over time.

An Evil Genius 2 Critique
Просмотров 1,8 тыс.3 года назад
An in-depth analysis of the many problems and triumphs to be found in the newest entry to the Evil Genius series. A creatively themed dungeon keeper entry that unfortunately collapses beneath the weight of its own mechanics half of the time. Ultimately worthwhile for fans of the genre, but not something that will go down in the annals of video game history as anything more than a short distract...

A Dungeon Siege Critique and Analysis
Ugh Spellforce 3 went with the "MUH GRITTY REALISM! EVERYONE IS RACIST IN OUR WORLD!". So stupid. The soulharvest campaign is beyond dumb. The dwarves of Fiara always had good relations with the humans. They were close allies. It was the Dwarves who helped shaped the Humans out of being cavemen. Why? Because the Dwarves left the Grimwarg mountains to seek new places to settle in which they found the humans. Dwarves have settlements in many places and even on Xu. What is this bullsh*t of them wanting to go back to being isolationists? This isn't Dragon Age!!
48:30 (approximately.) I'm always surprised that folks care about "victory" in a Civ game. I like to turn off "victory" conditions entirely. If I want to see the "You Won" screen, I can google for it. Instead, I just play until I decide I've won or lost - usually because either I'm nearly conquered or because I'm clearly strong enough to fight all remaining CIVs single-handedly. This is why all of my ideas for improving CIV are about making it a better simulation rather than about making it a fun game.
I completely disagree on the negatives with characterization and story he's goving. I felt that all the companions were engaging, compelling and yes, Alistair would make jokes but it was funny because he was the onealing sarcastic jokes at the appropriate time. I loved the guy. And the banter between him and Morrigan? Absolutely priceless. And the story was engaging, mature and dark...the hallmarks of what makes a good Dragon Age game.
Thanks for making this 😊
Bro I adore your content
I wanted to know the whole story of the series after starting with 3 but the first title is so clunky is hard to play so thank you for this retrospective
Man, grimlore games really wrecked the lore. Mulandir was NOT a Shaper city let alone the capital of their civilization. Mulandir was the city of the Circle of Mages specifically constructed in an area with demons so they could study them. The Shapers were the progenitors of the light races. So they weren't alien looking. They were like taller humans with pointed elf like ears. By this point in history, everyone knew exactly why the Shapers fell. The Dragons came from the skies and destroyed the Shaper cities. The Shapers fled and hid into different parts of Fiara and a span of a long time evolved into the Humans, Elves, and Dwarves. Also, Ankbrand was the original capital of Nortander not Greyfell.
Meeeeh
Truly great stuff, thanks for putting this together
DA2 is an equivalent of an interactive novel sandwiched between two games that strive to be larger than life Tolkien-inspired political strategy. I can understand why people were disappointed when it came out, but as a standalone, it's so well done. I specifically kept getting flashbacks to Kirkwall and companion faces for the last decade because they were made so memorable, until I gave up and installed it to refresh my memory before the Veilguard (all my homies hate the Veilguard). Man, it felt so good to replay it.
Where are you JBJett
I still play it to this day and it's still fun
Game of Thrones wasn't around at the times as a tv show but A Song of Ice and Fire series of books they were based on was and it influenced Dargon Age.
Wow suede is the top 1 ranked player? Civ 3 is my first intro to 4x games and his videos helped me learn how to love and enjoy 4x
To me, the biggest complaint I have against these RPG Assassin's Creed games is that they kinda throw the baby out with the bathwater resulting in a less novel experience. Rather than using the improved combat and RPG elements to work alongside or even elevate the parkour and social stealth that makes the series unique, they ended up replacing the parkour and social stealth. Imagine the following analogy: Lets say Insomniac is releasing Spider-Man 3. But in this game, web swinging is scaled back to being a very basic and automated thing you do in very specific situations. There's no skill or expression possible. But also in the game, you can hijack cars, drive and shoot people like it's a GTA game. And now 70-90% of the game is now this GTA-Like game. Even if the new GTA gameplay is fun, at minimum, it's a bit disheartening because it comes at the expense of the web swinging (the stuff that made Spider-Man games unique). And at worst, it misrepresents the appeal of Spider-Man. That's my main complaint of the AC RPG games. Ubisoft has admitted they were inspired by the Witcher 3 and Skyrim to make this transition with Origins. But the thing is that these RPG fantasy games where you ride from point to point (usually on horseback) are pretty common. Ubi even admitted they were following one of them so the resulting games are less unique in comparison. In contrast, how many games are there like Assassin's Creed 1 and 2 that give you a historically accurate set of cities with actually in-depth parkour for traversal (along with basic social stealth)? The Early ACs are still rather unique because of this aspect. It hurts me because I'd be down for an Assassin's Creed RPG rather than "An Assassin's Creed Flavoured RPG". Imagine an Assasin's Creed game where you have the choice of specializations like regular stealth, social stealth, parkour, ranged, combat etc, and you have to choose how much from each specialization you take onto missions. For example, you could choose to go all in on social stealth and parkour so you are way better at working with crowds and parkouring around but have no stealth bombs and can only Assassinate guards if you get right behind them undected or something. Regarding your video on Valhalla, It was fantastic and I watched it twice. I do disagree win a few places. Your point early on "how is it a bad thing if a game is too long". I don't agree with that and argue Valhalla's length hurts it in many places. For one, you gave examples of things the game never mentioned and you didn't learn until 50+ hours later or even an entire playthrough later. Imagine a player that's already finding the game rather boring and repetitive having to do boring puzzles or being unable to summon their horse. Imagine them learning hours later there were ways to ease their pain points. They wouldn't be thrilled. If the game was shorter, their pain would be lessened or they'd even have an incentive to replay the game with their newfound knowledge. Something less feasible if the game takes the average player 50+ hours to beat normally. Another reason is that it hurts the story. The RUclipsr WhiteLight made a point about this but in short, The game being so long means the game doesn't have the time to animate or mocap every interaction or create proper cutscenes for every event. It also means plot points may be followed up 10s of hours later resulting in a weaker experience. There's also the argument that the game has to repeat a lot of content to get those 100 hours. You mentioned in your video the odd number of puzzles or the mind numbing climbing. Those are a larger amount of content in a longer game. Which is why the next game, Mirage, is half as long as Valhalla. And more replayable with NG+ modes and stuff. I would argue that the best way to get 100+ hours out of a player isn't to make a single playthrough 100+ hours but to make a 20-30 hour playthrough the player is willing to replay. Add in challenge maps/modifers and/or a NG+ so the player gets both another look at the game's story and potentially new gameplay since NG+ is better equipped to mix things up (see DMC and Borderlands).
This video was too long. Halfway through it, I got hungry so I left it playing and went to the kitchen to fix myself a sandwich. But then I found out that I'm out of mayonnaise so I went to a store. There, I saw the most beautiful woman I have ever seen in my whole life. But I'm a really shy person so I took up a three-year personality development course so I could introduce myself. She was very friendly and all, but unfortunately, she had a boyfriend. So I said, all good, I'm a mature person. I wanted the best for her and I harbored no illusion that I am the best person for her and she seemed happy with her boyfriend, so I didn't bother her anymore. But we kept in touch and we became friends and I got over my crush on her. Then she broke up with her boyfriend, we drank some alcohol because of it. I told her she'll be fine and I wished her well. I still think she's the most beautiful woman in the world, but like I said, I am over my crush on her. It was like five years already since I first saw her. Besides, I am quite happy with the friendship I developed with her. It was more important than a crush. So we kept hanging out, drinking, having coffee, and all. I had a girlfriend, she started dating other guys. My girlfriend wanted to live some other life without me in it, so I said, "Okay, I want the best for you and I want you to pursue your happiness." My lady friend and I drank alcohol about it, and she gave me the same advice I gave her when she was in that position and I became okay with the breakup immediately. But we were really drunk, so she spent the night in my apartment. I only have one bed, so you know what that means: She took the bed and I slept on the couch. But on the couch, I really can't sleep. Something was bothering me. So I tossed and turned for about three hours, then I finally couldn''t take it anymore, I stood up and went straight to my room where she's sleeping. I approached the bed, gently sat on it and I reached for her shoulder to pull her closer to me. She stirred and woke up. She asked what's up. I told her, "you know, the first time I saw you, I was watching a video and left it playing to get myself a sandwich then went to the store to get some mayo then I got so distracted by life that I forgot to finish the video." She said, "You know what, I've been wondering about a weird noise in your night drawer." So we opened that drawer, and lo and behold, there's my phone and this video still has two minutes of play time on it.
Wow. Just wow. First gotta thank you forvthe inclusion of the making of section to give better perspective on what kind of work need to be put for a trilogy of retrospective to be done. And second, the awesome stuff you come up eith this vid since i love how inquisition delved with it's story making it one of the best story i've ever experienced on.
Lol the companion quests part is dumb as hell
Like get the feastday i guess or if the charaters are so one note it shouldn't be hard to choose the right dialogue and not need gifts to get quest
Curious the game's marketing focused so much on the Arishok duel when the game's combat mechanics... well... they're obviously not designed with duels like that in mind. So from gameplay's perspective it's a bit of a nothingburger of a battle.
Find just two things from all of this that bothered me . Artillery don't have lethal bombardment. Only bombers. Only reason to use artillery/cavalry for me is if you try wage industrial war beacuse you don't have coal for railroads or you don't have oil. Bomber have same functions of artillery but way better. I just can't see the reason to use artillery in late game. The other i wonder is the idea that entertainers is useless and is always the best idea to use slider - you said that slider is cost 1 currency ? It is not - it is cost a lot and you losing lot of money hindering whole empire just because one city have unhappiness because it is not have marketplace yet. Using entertainer just to finish a marketplace may lose some shields and commerce but using slider will lead to losing much more. Now I always use the slider when i have general unhappiness problem because of population and lack of luxuries but for a random single city?
I hope you do the veilgaurd.
I hope veilguard is as good.
A 4 hour video about my favorite game ever from someone I've never heard of?? Yes please. RUclips algorithm hitting tonight.
I noticed a significant decrease in the difficulty of the game when using spells to evenly distribute damage and mana between characters in a large team (from 5 to 8 members).
i just realized... is the science advisor supposed to be sid meier??? xD
The way you feel about Pachacuti, I feel the same about that sarcastic bully Hiawatha. I know he's just an algorithm, but I know he hates me
I was 12 when i was given this game as a birthday gift. id never played a fantasy game before then so this was my first one. im now 35 and i still play this regularly with my brothers in 3 player coop mode. even so far as I basically have become the DM for our campaign, making adjustments to maps and even making new ones from scratch just so we got more stuff to fight. My brother only bought it because of the hot woman on the cover of the Order of Dawn CD Case. lmao. best purchase he ever made tbh.
Loved this. Loved DAI too - means a lot as in the early days of my daughters life I was playing it none stop as she loved the music. Thank you for this, I loved seeing your take on the game and the lore - it always amazes me how my experiences in DA are echoed by other fans. Recommend this video for newbies waiting for DA4

My first playthrough was a breeze. It only took about 40hrs and I used a sealth dual dagger rogue and let the companions just do their own thing. I took Solas, iron bull, and Cassandra so I could sneak around and get massive back stab damage, use caltrops to slow and poison, then spinning slash then Teleport slash back into stealth. All the while they get aggroed on my knights and Solas heals from afar while I pick off small mobs and wait for my cooldowns. Jaws of Haakon was a wild difficulty spike though.
Are you playing this on Windows 10 I could never get it to work on modern Windows.
This was my first 4X game.
Civilization 2 already had scenario's with new technology trees and units. - alien invasion - napoleon - WW2 - dinosaurs - USA vs Sovjet (starts with a few fired nukes) -...
civ 3 also has this
It's kind of crazy that in the original SpellForce 3 campaign, your party is composed of the most evil characters Eo has ever seen. And it’s hard to like them, especially Isgrimm, who is already showing reckless abuse of power.
It's dumb Grimlore games trying to make Spellforce into a grimdark setting. It's not. It's classic high fantasy. Apparently Grimlore games like many other people think "gritty realism" is a miserable world where everyone is pieces of shit, there is r*p3 and racism everywhere and nothing is redeeming. I'm so sick of this grimdark shit
42:00 but most of all, the AI doesn't build and field enough artillery correctly, If you want to win at the higher levels you need artillery, lots of artillery. Captured artillery is great, no maintenance cost.
great saga, totally unbalanced but I will always come back to it. The main issue is that (and this ironically happens in SF3 as well to an extent) if you have a decent build you just have an easier time cleaning the map solo, because you don't trigger the endless spawning of enemies.
Oh no you do the reviewer voice the whole time 😂
just bought it and was blown away by how good it is, it's everything i imagined Warcraft 4 would be like, the RTS controls are very responsive and intuitive.
I really like this game, but the systems are so opaque. I trust both you and Suede, but I don't get why the luxury slider is preferable to entertainers. If I have one or two cities in the middle and late game that are always 1-2 frowny faces away from revolt, then why spend a ton of gold for them when the rest of my cities are fine? Also with the research slider, it's better to have research buildings? Counting up the the beakers in the early game is fine, but after a dozen or so cities, it gets very tiresome trying to micromanage everything. Speaking of research, are beakers an independent variable in cities in that they aren't directly affected by geography? I ask because I'm unsure if I should build libraries in every city to get more research, or if it becomes negligible. How many beakers will shave off one turn of research? I figure I could test this, but the later the game goes on, the more variables get introduced, making it harder to establish a hard metric.
Im pretty sure that it is explained by Warden Riordan that Archdemon dies becouse unlike darkspawn wardens still have their souls which to destruction of both Warden and ArchDemon when its soul transfers to nearest tainted living being
You are wrong: there are lots of books outside the game series
Experience in Spellforce 2 is given for the quests only, there is no sence to grind mobs
Hearing Suede talk about the MP scene gives the old Uncle describing a huge battle that happened in the field kids usually play in. from growing up with the game i never imagined so much lore for a Civ game that's rather overlooked by the latter entries. I gotta give thanks to both you and Suede for shedding some very insightful tips and mechanical knowledge in a game that i played often but even now are still learning to play challengingly
How much I played this game as a kid back in 2005-2008? After 16 or so years I can still hear dwarf yelling: "My AXE is getting impatient!" or Brannigen yelling: "Don't just stand there! Kill something!" This game gave me so many fond memories.
I LOVED Civ I and II and III. but Civ IV felt like such a deviation, such a change, that I could go no further. I am stuck on CIV III. I wish I could download somewhere the ability to play ww2 Europe in CIV III.
Also Civ IV has such a cluttered artstyle that looks absolutely ugly compared to the simple beauty of civIII
Inquisition was the best. Origins can get boring quickly, your characters just stand there 🤷
Man, I loved this game back in the day, thought now it is quite hard to get back to (with having Civ 4, 5 & 6, Old World or Humankind in the library). The best thing about it was graphics, unit designs, sounds & animation and diplomacy, which often resulted in world wars near end game (which is almost non existent in my current games). The worst things about Civ 3 were mostly the corruption system (making distant cities from capital/forbidden city unusable), transporting units through bodies of water and the fact that units had to fight each battle to the death (also I never was a fan of 'stacks of doom'). The AI was somewhat better then today, but there was really big room for improvement there. Civ 4 delivered on that, but had other issues, for which I couldn't transition for a looooong time after it came out.
