Crab Catch & Cook with Hana & Mates

Myself, daughter Hana and her friends head down to the swan river for the evening in search of Blue Manna Crabs. I was snorkelling and catching them, the kids, well I think they got wet and that's about it. Once we get home they clean up the crabs I caught, then I do a chilli garlic crab stir fry for them to try.
Slow Cooker Jugged Hare

Using the Hare Brad shoot at his uncles place, I demonstrate how to cut up the animal and prepare it for the slow cooker. Not the traditional way to cook Jugged Hare, but outcome is the same. Very tasty and worth the effort.

First expedition in my homemade fishing kayak

The Titanic was an unsinkable boat, so a perfect name for my homemade fishing kayak. Did the first voyage go the same way as the real Titanic. I head out to Woodman's Point in Cockburn Sound to try it out, hopefully catching a feed of squid or sand whiting in the process.
Crayfishing Western Australia and our first shark encounter
Просмотров 2302 года назад
Myself and Brad head out in his boat to check his cray pots. In Western Australia lobster are caught in November & December during a period know as the "Whites Run". The young cray's have moulted their hard shells and are heading out to deeper water. Using pots is the easiest way to catch lobster during this time. On this trip we have our first shark encounter. The sharks hang around at this ti...

Loving the videos Wild kai. Keep up the good work
Thanks, I appreciate it!
As a keen hunter myself I'm always interested in what is being used! i.e. the make of rifle, its calibre and the distance an animal is shot from. To be honest, I would have had a quicker follow up shot, but I'm viewing from the camera! What the shooter was seeing may have been quite different. As a matter of interest where were the two impacts on the animal, please? Good video and thanks for sharing it with us.
Hi Richard, my rifle is a Browning Composite Stalker in 270 calibre with a Leopold 3x9 varied scope. Ive had this setup since mid 90's. I just buy standard 270 rounds as Ive never got into the reloading thing myself. Unfortunately it was a bit of a wait for the second shot to present itself. I was trying to get a good clean kill shot. The first one was slightly high, probably due to the up hill angle, and the second shot quartered away so also missed the vitals, although he did fall soon after the second shot. I'd estimate the distance (as I can't remember) to be about 150 -200 metres.
@@wildkai4004 Thank you for the reply, while I'm not new to shooting, I am relatively new to hunting with a centerfire rifle. I've shot a few animals with my new 243win. In August of 2024 I was on an NZDA hunts course and forgot about shooting at steep angles, fortunately my aim was mid-way up on the stag's body and took the spine (355Yds) and it went straight down. Thanks again for sharing🙂.
WOW
Look tasty😋
Thought I could smell it over here on the Southern Island. Probably wishful thinking.? Thanks for sharing mate.
Great to see you back, been a minute!
Hi Geoff, hopefully more to come in the near future... there may be a move home coming up.
Looking good mate. Just about smelt it cooking from this side of the screen. Thanks for sharing. Calling in from somewhere inland on the Southern Island. Cheers.
Thanks for watching! love a good mussel and chilli dish.
Sad you don't know the difference between a rabbit, a hare or a rabbi ...
Ow wait for every 1 Before u Start picking n eating at The smoke eels' 🤦
what time of the year did you go?
Hi, it was the end of April, 2023
How far is the flying fox down stream from the Horace Walker Hut?
It crosses the Karangarua River immediately downstream of the Regina confluence, towards the top end of Cassel Flat. The 3-wire crosses the Regina at the foot of the route up to Conical Hill saddle.
Good morning mate. Just found your channel. Liked and subscribed. I guess I'll have a bit of binge watching happening, to catch up now. Thank you for sharing. Take care.
Thanks for the like and subscription. hoping to be back in NZ in the near future and getting back into some regular content.
@wildkai4004 yeah, no worries mate.
Cheer~~~stew or boil (a hare or rabbit) in a covered container.😅
The young lady is stealing your show. 👍👍❤❤❤❤
Great to see my old stamping ground through your video , last time I was in there was the early 70's just after the hut was built , I was 17yrs old . Good to see there is still numbers behind the hut . We used to fly in at that time and walk out , We would shoot enough deer on castle flat to pay for the trip .
The "good to see numbers" perspective is one reason why hunters are utterly ineffective for pest control in any but the easiest places. Those that bristle are much of the problem, due to ignorance about how to locate animals/assess what is there and the conviction most hunters have of their own in-depth knowledge & skill. Plenty of "professional" hunters and particularly reality TV "harvesters" and self-appointed ecological advisers contribute to the disinformation, and DOC has been progressively inept. Another being the idea shooting 5 nannies per bull will be effective. If every nanny possible had been shot it might help a little. Even these goats wise up, most hunters are incapable of effective mob shooting, so the result is a problem residual population of wary survivors. And though tahr aren't particularly wary if undisturbed, once educated are a completely different proposition. In several trips in 1980's-mid '90's to the hut and Conical Hill, plus aerial work, only the odd tahr was seen along that route. The south side had hundreds (probably 200-500) in the 90's, & knocking over about 100 a year there seemed to keep them sort of stable. Given the tahr plan prescribes less than 1/square km, the valley is about 20 sq km, and the entire tahr range has similar overpopulation, DoC's management and rec hunter input has failed spectacularly. Photos of what it was like, numbers seen & where would be interesting comparison to the period noted, as it was difficult to even find a tahr there in the early 1980's. The subsequent increase/change was recorded. The ongoing changes are evident (throughout old hunting areas) from youtube videos that give good panoramic, terrain and vegetation views.
Never see them removing the intestine, we do.
Awesome vid!!
Great trip. Bit steeper than the flats of W.A. Good to see ya. Cousin Geoff.
That’s a rabbit
Epic trip, didn't know you could fly in/out of cassel flat hut?
You can’t normally. This was a DOC working trip for my brother & the guy we dropped off at the hut prior to us departing the chopper at Horace Walker hut. They are both DOC inspectors. I was lucky enough to be able to tag along for the ride.
Cool vid mate👌
Brilliant vid of your Tahar hunt man. Enjoyed those vistas!! Awesome you got back into it after so long away!! Yeowwwwww
Going to try this. What size Jars did u use please.
What about the poo line?
Cheers m8. Just made 2 jars up of this recipe with Goolwa Cockles from South Australia. Hopefully, they taste alright.
Mine are frozen, should I thaw them or just pull them out and cut them in half? Also, how should they feel when ready? I noticed you touching them to check.
Great video, it tried it and they turned out great. Thanks
I had this when i was in New Zealand years ago. i felt i needed to do a search on ..how to make pickled mussels at home, and your video came up first.. I love it and will make this week,, thank you

What about the spine cord? You just leave that in?
there is no spinal cord in NZ Rock Lobster. They have a totally different nervous system.

Mate, that girl needs a slap in the face. Spitting back onto the plate! No respect for the food or chef what so ever.

Wonderful video, looks delicious. I will do and comeback to say how it was, we don’t do much in bbq here in Brasil but I was looking for that. Thank you for sharing, and your daughter is so cute! 😍🫶🏽
Any recipes on how to eat them after being pickled please?
With a beer
Looks great...I keep looking for new hare recipes and I'm trying this one at hunt camp next. Just curious, have you ever shredded the meat off the bone and put back in the pot? Would that change anything? Thanks for making the video
