Coastline Fishing
Великобритания
Добавлен 5 мар 2021
Hello and welcome to Coastline Fishing.
Since moving to the east coast of Scotland I am reigniting my childhood joys of fishing, foraging and all things costal. I learned so much from my father and I am looking to pass as much of that onto my children as I can.
The channel will feature Shore Fishing, Coastal Foraging, Freediving, Catch and Cook and Fishing Tips along with anything else I feel is relevant.
Once the channel grows I would also like to get a boat in the water and then we can create some more content around sea Fishing and Lobster pot fishing. It will also allow me to explore some more dive locations which will be good fun.
I am just filming what I enjoy doing and I hope that you enjoy the content as well. If you do I would really appreciate a thumbs up on the videos and a hit on that subscribe button. I also welcome any comments and look forward to engaging with you all.
Thank you for watching, all the best.

This Rig Catches Fish!! - How To Make the Pulley Dongle Rig - Rough Ground Cod Fishing
Here is a little tech tip video showing you how to make the pulley dongle rig that I use for rough ground cod fishing. I have tested this and it does indeed catch fish :-)
My main reason for switching to this was to get a higher return rate due to less gut hooked fish, so far this rig is proving to be very effective!
I know some people may prefer less terminal tackle but this is the setup that I like to use so hopefully it helps you with your fishing. Tight lines
Feel free to pop anything in the comments if you have any questions.

Getting Amongst the Cod! | Rough Ground Cod Fishing In The Arbroath Winter Open
Просмотров 4,2 тыс.28 дней назад
In this video, I headed up north to fish The Arbroath Winter Open and I finally, got amongst the cod doing a bit of rough ground fishing! All in all, it was a great event and I have to give a big shout-out to all the organizers and sponsors, without them these days would not be possible. Baits of choice were WHA cod bombs and I was using my AnyFishAnywhere 6nBait rod paired with a Penn Rival re...
Shore Fishing Success: Mackerel Hunting On The Uk Coast!

In this short video, I was out catching mackerel from the rocks. I really enjoy a bit of shore fishing for these lovely fish. Mackerel put up a brilliant fight, especially on the light lure fishing gear. Some of these mackerel will be used for winter cod fishing bait and some will be cooked on the BBQ! This is the tackle I used: Lion 7ft Spinning rod Leeda Ikon 4000 spinning reel with 30lbs bra...

Freediving In Scotland For Lobsters - Can I Find One?

The first time in 2023 that I managed to get in the water for a bit of Freediving in Scotland for lobsters. Great video! Where can you learn to do this?
Thanks for watching! Where abouts are you based? There are a few instructors I can recommend but they are opposite ends of the country 😂
Hi if you put a simple button on the end of you braid dongle it would help loads with keeping the bait on without adding to much to the rig Simple
Love that tip 👍🏼
Some fish mate cooking video coming?
No catch and cook unfortunately. Photo of the finished meal on my Facebook page though 👍🏼
@ secretly I just don’t know enough ways to make cod🤣
@ there is only one way isn’t there…fish n chips
I enjoyed that! Great explanation and demo. And you certainly seem to be getting better results!! Fingers crossed for the double figures!
Thanks, I hope you found it useful. Fingers crossed it catches the big one this season 🤞🏼
Got a great tip for people going winter fishing ........ Don't go in your shorts and tee shirt 🏖🌊❄🌪🌨🌬
😂😂 brilliant tip that, might get a tad chilly 😂 floatation suit and thermals for the win!
80lb line you prob only need 3turns in uni rig .....more if lighter line ..... Really like the lead clip and pully bead .........top rig .... It will help to pully a few more fish out .😁
Probably dead right there, I’m stingy with my tag ends so 3 would be easier 😂 definitely, the trident tackle gear is really good, I’m really liking this aero pulley over their original one. Also brilliant play on words there 👍🏼
I assume, given the number of dolphins, this could be the Moray Firth - though the dolphins could pop up just about anywhere round Scotland. Why do these videos never say where they are fishing? If we do not know which part of the country you are fishing the video becomes rather boring. Apart from the Dolphins of course!
Hi David, this was just in the mouth of The Tay heading up towards Carnoustie. In the summer we often get dolphins between Dundee and Edinburgh as they chase the mackerel inshore (as of course they do elsewhere) Sorry for not mentioning where I was, it’s tricky with fishing videos as there has been a lot of disrespect along our coast recently where people finding a spot and then ruin it by leaving rubbish and all sorts around. Hope you enjoyed the video other than this. Thanks Ben
So my total bag put me in 15th place out of 170 anglers. I was happy with that but what could one more fish have done to the results….
Great video. Where did you place then in the match ?
Thanks for watching 👍🏼 I ended up 15th of 170 I think it was that entered. Was pretty happy with that!
@@CoastlineFishing yeah that’s very good mate. Well done. 👍🏻
Thank you 👍🏼 next comp will be the st serfs on 8th December so hoping for a good result in that one.
It's a pully rig with a hair. The actual dingle dangle dongle rig as its correctly known in SA/Namibia is a total different rig.
@@martinking9663 indeed. This isn’t the true dingle dangle dongle but it seems to be the variation that has become very popular in the UK for the rough ground fishing.
@CoastlineFishing it's still just a hair, you can put it on loop rigs, paternoster rigs even flappers if you wanted. The carp lads have been doing this for an eternity
@@martinking9663 I am not following your logic? The "true" dingle dangle dongle, I have always also just looked as a hair rig it is just variations to me.
Well the “original” maybe be the better word. This rig is the dongle rig that the uk seem to be using over the rough ground but I agree it’s different to the original they use in SA.
@CoastlineFishing but then I could be using a paternoster and calling in a dongle rig. It's a hair being misinterpreted for an actual rig by people from the UK. I've actually used the dingle dangle dongle rig since 2014 after my trip to SA and learning it.
Nice one mate. Just need a nice big chunky cod on the end now! Good luck for the winter mate
@spartafishinguk yes exactly! I’m really hoping this season I can pull something out at least close to double, here’s hoping! 🤞🏼 tight lines mate.
Great fishing mate and a great channel
Thank you, i appreciate your comment 👍🏼 glad you liked the videos
Waiting for the first big winter freeze and East winds
Too right. We certainly need it, was out last night and was 15 degrees still. Way too warm for November!!
You did well considering the conditions, I live local and waiting for an east wind and some frost.
Thanks! I was happy to have something to take back to weigh in. I stay down in St Andrews and just the same as you, we need some bigger seas and that water temp to come right down!
Well done!! You're certainly making your way up the leader board!! Next year is your year!!
Thank you! It was good session, one more good fish could have made all the difference!!
Well in mate nice bag of fish
Cheers for that. The bag put me in 15th place in the end.
@CoastlineFishing well in pal hope ya get a few the night
@@nefishingandtackle8557 cheers, I’ll keep you posted 👍🏼
Was a great match wished my cam never went dead after 20 mins so was unable to make a video my self !
Ahh no way! Managing the battery’s for a while session is a skill in itself 😂 how did you get on?
@@CoastlineFishing just under 11lb for 9th place
@OnTheRocks69 nice work 👍🏼 my bag ended up putting me 15th. I packed up at 8:45 as didn’t want to miss the weigh in but I left while the fish were still biting! One more fish could have bumped me up a fair few places.
@ fish come on big time at 8 I did not won’t to leave my self lol
@ indeed. 8:15 I started getting good knocks, missed one and then another was knocking away but never gave a good hit. I just keep thinking…what could those two fish have done to the bag 😂 next time I guess!
- No catch *&& cook!?!?!*
It certainly didn’t go to waste at home 😉 but yes unfortunately no catch and cook on this one. We have had a really bad summer weather wise so I havnt been able to get out much unfortunately. Thanks for watching though.
Let me be the first to say, "giggity"
It has that look right 😂
Where is this? Its beautiful
@@118Wilson is on the east coast of Scotland, near St Andrews.
where was the seal ?
Hiya, it’s @7:21 but it’s only a brief clip of its head above the water. It was hard to film but he followed us for most of the dive.
What length rod is it?
Hi. This is one is 13ft sonic sks black. But I have since moved onto an AnyfishAnywhere 6nBait which is 14ft, cracking rod!!
Great video mate! I can't think of a nicer way to spend an evening than down at the waters edge with a light spinning rod and a small Dexter or Toby in search of a few Mackerel. In my opinion a mackerel on a light spinning outfit is the best way to fish for them, followed by a grilled mackerel on toast followed by a good cold beer! Absolute bliss!
Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed it. You are dead right, mackerel put up such a good fight for their size. Have you ever tried fishing for them on a light fly rod? That is also brilliant sport! Your description there is literally a perfect evening 🎣 🍺
@@CoastlineFishing I would have loved to try fishing for mackerel with a fly rod but unfortunately I sold all of my fly fishing gear a few years ago. I'm beginning to regret it as they are such a sporting fish that give you a real fight on light tackle.
@@petebony3093 if you ever come across rod again then give it a bash, great fun. Even so, a nice lrf or spinning rod is still great sport. I’ll hopefully be having a few soon to stock the freezer for the winter cod season (oh and some for the bbq!)
its now illegal to take lobster while free diving
Thank you for the comment but that isn’t correct. There was a new rule passed in May that prevent the landing of any buried (egg carrying) lobster or brown crab. Also new controls over boats that are more than 12m in length and have landed more than 200 tones of lobster/crab in a 12 month period. However, for freediving we are still able to forage lobster/crab (as long as they aren’t buried.
@@CoastlineFishing "Never catch crabs or lobster by means of skin-diving, which includes using apparatus of any kind which enables a person to breathe under water. " i just copied that off the SFPA website
@@VeritySnatch thank you for this but you are referring rules from a different area. I have checked with marine Scotland and there are no restrictions on the amount you can land as long as they aren’t under or over the size limits and are not carrying eggs.
@@CoastlineFishing ok good to know as a fellow free diver
@@VeritySnatch it’s good to question it, it can be confusing as each area has its own rules. For example the east coast of Scotland has a 87mm minimum landing size, the west cost is 90mm, always good to check the rules, happy diving 👍🏼
As a life long course/carp angler, I have grown tired of the depressing muddy ponds, rules, lack of fish in the rivers, and abundance of anglers in general. I'm also questioning how much I agree with simply bothering fish for sport (catch and release) these days. I can't wait to get into shore fishing, as I know nothing about it, this video was useful. It's all pretty similar, and less tarty with simple tackle and rigs. New frontiers 🎉🎉🎉
I used to course fish a lot when I was younger and still have a go every now and then. However, the sea fishing is brilliant, often amazing scenery and as you say the fish are definitely less finicky with the tackle 😂 thanks for watching and glad it helped you. Thanks
Lobsta Mac & cheese oh my one of my favorites, Massachusetts heah!
So good isn’t it! Great tasty comfort food!
I was seriously overthinking this. Thanks for the simple demonstration.
No Problem at all, I’m glad it’s helped you ☺️
Just received mine and it has a piece of cardboard in it and says put back after using? What is it for please as you cannot close the machine with that in place.
Thanks for watching. I’m not 100% sure I’m afraid as mine didnt come with this. So if it helps in any way I don’t place anything in mine. I can only imagine it’s designed to keep the heating element exposed so you don’t close the lid when it’s still hot after use. Thanks Ben.
@@CoastlineFishing Thank you. Mine also did not have a replacement cutter. Working on that one. Edited to say that I am still reading the manual and cannot work out what they mean by putting kitchen towel round or in the bag. Any ideas?
@bernadettec6386 it sounds like you might have a slightly different model as mine doesn’t have the inbuilt cutter. Putting the kitchen towel in the bag wouldn’t make sense to me as it would just go soggy if you have any moisture in the food. Thanks Ben.
@@CoastlineFishing - yes that was my thinking as well. Not sure at times who writes these manuals!!
@bernadettec6386 obviously just used a generic manual or a bad text translation 😳
Thx for the video. Couldn't make any sense of the instructions, something lost in translation .
No problem, I’m glad it helped. It’s a great bit of kit!
Hello, how are you? Are you planning to go to the fishing show in Farnborough this march?
Hi there. I’m doing good thank you. I hope you are as well. I don’t have any plans to head down there this year, maybe another time I’ll make it.
Hi So yes, apparently, there have been a lot of complaints about the fact that that fishing show was only for carp fishing, I went 3 years ago I think, it was awful, 90% of the stands and presentation was for carp fishing, This year's will be different 🎉 Finally
Imagine me getting one of these for Christmas. Searching how to use it on youtube. Opening up the video in front of my family only to go. Wait a F minute I know that guy🤣
Haha can you imagine!
That’s amazing! Sometimes nature rewards a 4am start with a real treat.
It certainly was cool. Was lucky to have a good pals boat to use 😉
Hi when is the best months to forage lobster? What is ur wetsuit thickness
The summer is better but mostly as the sea is calmer and warmer:) my wetsuit is 7mm and that means I can dive in temperature down to 5degrees. Generally in the winter the lobster tend to move offshore so they don’t get damaged in the rougher sea. I hope this helps.
How much it weigh?
Annoying I didn’t have scales but it’s length would put it about 30-40lbs. Considering my only other was 10lbs I was happy :)
I had one last night from the shore with a size 4 hook pulley rig 😂but no scales ...5.5ft length and 8.5 inch thick behind the head
@beserkermode6698 nice one! Good work landing that on a size 4, lucky it didn’t bend it out! 👍🏼
Thanks for the video! does the smaller pocket fit a set of smaller snorkeling fins? I'll be traveling with some free diving fins for the first time and need a bag that can also fit my other fins for scuba/snorkeling. thanks again for your feedback!
No problem at all. I recon at a squeezeyou could probably fit both sets of fins in the back pocket as there is still space in mine. Then wetsuit, gloves, booties etc in the front pocket 👍🏼 I hope that helps. Cheers Ben.
@@CoastlineFishing I don’t need to pack any of the other items you mentioned so it looks like I could fit the smaller fans in the front pocket. Thank you so much for your response!
Thanks bud
No problem at all 👍🏼
❤️ *Promo sm*
Looked really good, something I’m wanting to start doing myself, what gear do you recommend for me getting so I can start?
Foraging is brilliant as you need virtually nothing. Just a foraging hook, bucket, waders and a life jacket. If your heading out at night then a good head torch as well. But I wound recommended heading out on some spring tides during the day to get familiar with it before going out at night. Make sure you let someone know where your heading to and how long you’ll be…just basic safety stuff 👍🏼
@@CoastlineFishing looking forward to it, I put 2 lobster pots out last night and going to check them tonight… where did you get your stick with hook on and the net
@@krismorrin7082 oh nice, I hope you get one for a cook up! The one I use was made by my dad but if you have a look on google for Startpoint Spearfishing they sell a really nice foraging hook. The net is just a normal prawn/ shrimping net.
Is there a certain time of year to do this or all year round?
You can do it all year round but the spring tides are by far the best as it exposes all the holes. Generally the warmer months are also better as once the colder rougher seas arrive the crustaceans move off shore so they don’t get battered against the rocks in the swells.
Hi, thanks for the videos, you doing good 👍
You are welcome! Thank you for watching. Winter cod season is about to start so stay tuned for more videos coming soon 👍🏼
Hi I hope you are ok, I wanted to ask you what power of beachcasting rod you use 100 to 250gr?
@becukramerfrederic7101 all is well here thank you, I hope the same with you. For the winter fishing I use a 14ft 175g (or 5-7oz) rod. For the summer spinning I use a 7ft 30-60g rod. I hope this helps. Thanks Ben.
Thank you Ben, For the spinning, I use a Westin W6 spin, with a daiwa BG magsealed 4500, That rod is a master piece a bit long as it's a 10ft but really a fantastic rod where you can easily fight any sort of fish For the beach casting colmic and daiwa both up to 9oz, what weight will you use basically?120gr?
@@becukramerfrederic7101 very nice, that sounds like a nice bit of kit! Having a good all round rod never goes a miss. For the winter fishing over here I use a 170g (6oz) weight on a pulley pennel rig. It works well for the cod. Cheers Ben.
What neopren is in epsealon wetsuit?
Hi, Epsealon use a Jako neoprene in their suits. I have used this 7mm suit for 2+hrs in 5 degree Scottish seas and have been fine. It certainly keeps you warm!
That fish looks delicious. This vac sealer looks pretty much identical to the SilverCrest one sold in Lidl stores. I had one until two days ago when it gave a loud bang and stopped working. However, I have used it almost every day, sometimes twice a day, for four years, so I'm not complaining, especially since I only paid £19.99. Now either I wait till Lidl restocks their product, or buy the Bonsen one now. (Lidl usually only has the SilverCrest in stores two or three times a year.)
It really was! Got to love fresh cod caught by hand! Ahh what a shame yours packed up, but it sounds like it had a very good innings! Can’t beat some of the Aldi/Lidl special buys! I hope you manage to get another soon so you can continue sealing fresh food :-) thanks for watching, Ben
Is your Bonsen still working? It’s on sale for $19.99 right now, but I’m not sure if I’m just throwing money away by buying this machine🤷🏻♀️
@@suew4609 I did not buy the Bonsen machine. I bought a really cheap, very basic vacuum sealer to tide me over until Lidl reintroduced their SilverCrest sealer. I used the temporary, cheap sealer for several months, and then Lidl started selling their SilverCrest model again, and still at the same price, £19.99 which I thought was amazing. I've been using the SilverCrest for several months and it works superbly. The temporary sealer, which cost only around £13, has been put into long-term storage in case it's needed again.
@@suew4609 By the way, the Bonsen vacuum sealer looks very similar to the SilverCrest, but is £10 dearer.
@swew4609 the Bonsen is still going strong and I use it multiple times a week 👍🏼
Hi? Is there a law here in uk how big you can get or kill the lobster? Im here in newcastle UK
As a general rule you can’t take a female lobster that has eggs. Some females also have V notches and you can’t take those either. Landing size varies depending on location but normally it is around 87mm carapace so I would check the local laws first. The bigger lobster generally don’t taste as nice so personally I would stick around the 90cm carapace size to be above the limit/best taste 👍🏼
Good to see you catching Mackeral, theyre a bit thin on the ground in Cornwall! Thanks for taking the time to do the video!!
Oh really? That’s a shame, could fill a bucket in an hour up here on most nights 😳 hopefully you get on them soon 🎣
