Don't Make My TEFL Mistakes! 9 Insider TEFL Tips BEFORE STARTING a TEFL Course.
If you plan to rely on your job as a teacher in an academy with no other income stream, you will certainly have a better lifestyle outside of Madrid and Barcelona. The salaries are low, the lifestyle is higher and most of the academies there tend to offer part-time jobs, rarely 9 - 5s.
Can I get your WhatsApp, I am all over this idea right now for Spain and have a few questions!
Very interesting! Did you do any private tutoring within your side projects? This can be a nice option for people looking to supplement their income a little without taking away too much from being able to enjoy the lifestyle
Same here, small places are not good for young people. I wish more people understand the power of traveling and trying life in different places. Your videos are amazing! Keep great work 🥳
I agree. Time goes so fast, and trips and travel stick in the memory so much more than the mundane.
Great video man, really intresting.
Thanks! :)
To be honest, we Egyptian intellectuals have always wanted to reside in the United Kingdom since it is a well-organized country that values research and freedom. But now, after hearing from many Brits immigrating to Spain and sharing the same experience of healing depression caused by the weather in your home country, I am seriously considering learning Spanish in addition to English and moving to Spain because, after all, I would rather have a good relieving climate and slow pace full of social interactions in Spain than be depressed and lonely in the UK. Thank you, mate, for sharing your experience and enlightening our minds! 😊
Happy to help! The UK certainly isn't all bad. I much prefer it for business, the political system, and people's general attitudes and belief systems. I love a lot about the culture of the U.K....BUT, my health and relationships take a bit of a hit. Make sure to visit both. Thanks for stopping by Tarek!

Not sure if you already made a video about this, but can you talk about how to actually land a teaching job in Spain with a TEFL certification? Just watched another video of yours about salary + pay, super helpful!

Appreciate it. Thank you :)
Hi, I am from India. I have done Master's in English, Bachelor's in Education, TEFL. Will I get the opportunity to teach as a non-native speaker?
You have a good chance! With your qualifications - a Master’s in English, Bachelor’s in Education, and TEFL - you’re well-prepared. Many non-native speakers successfully join the Spanish Language Assistant Program. Best of luck! 🇪🇸🌟
@@LewisGreenaway thanks for the reply. Could you please share the link to apply.
@@shaiksalman2841 just google Language and Culture Assistants Spain Application, you'll find it. CIEE site.
@@LewisGreenaway ok sir, thanks for the information.
Is it all young people or do retirees teach as well?
I met a fair few 60+ TEFL teachers working between 12-16 hours a week. A nice option.
@@LewisGreenaway excellent. Thank you!
How can this guy teach English when can't speak it well. Instead of saying the the word 'three' he says 'free'. He also pronounces 'something' as somefink. Wth
That’s just a regional English accent? 😂 Regardless, mistakes are fine. Luckily we live in a world where you don’t need to be Roger Federer to coach tennis. Thanks for stopping by 🙏🏼
I am seriously looking into Spain after I acquire 10:18 my citizenship by de decendant, but definitely will need to bring my American salary with me 😅. That’s a huge chunk to get used to…
Absolutely, depends on lifestyle...but I found the outdoor lifestyle, because of the weather, made cheap or free things really fun. Subscribe, I'll be dropping A LOT of specific Spain videos :)
How can I get these jobs .. I am coming to madrid next month.
Build a CV, talk a good game, locate as many academies as possible via google maps (the smaller the better), look the part, walk in and introduce yourself as someone looking for work. I would do a course first though or get some experience. No degree? Get a CELTA. Degree? Get an online TEFL. Not advice, do your own research!
Don't you need a teaching license to work in an international school?
Oddly, International schools and private schools have less red tape than state schools. They often like hiring experts of an area regardless of teaching qualification. Position yourself as an expert in TEFL, you'll be appealing. Or jump the queue of qualification by going straight for a DELTA or DipTESOL after a couple of years experience.
Could you start your IG page and Google business page right after taking the tefl course?
Absolutely! I wish I started mine much earlier.
For private lessons, should we ask potential students to purchase a coursebook before beginning? I find that I really enjoy working through coursebooks. I hate having to come up with plans of my own as I lack creativity. Which coursebooks do you recommmend?
I've been there! There is no need to reinvent the wheel, coursebooks are great starting points for us as TEFL teachers. Before asking a student to buy a coursebook, you need to know what book you enjoy teaching! Then, test it with the student, and if it is going well (not too easy, not too difficult), ask them to buy the coursebook. But also, most coursebooks come with a workbook (you need to pay for this separately), these are fantastic, as students can work through them independently, which is perfect. You can teach 1-1's from the coursebook, and set follow up work using the workbook. Personally, my two favourite series are: Outcomes by National Geographic, and Gateway. 'Your Space' by Hobbs and Keddle is good for beginners (although it's aimed at 15 and under). Once you've found a book you really enjoy teaching, I recommend investing in buying yourself a copy in Elementary, Intermediate, Upper-Intermediate levels. Search online and the books may offer free samples to try out! Hope this helps.
Great content.
At 13 an hour were you considered a freelancer or employee? Did you have to travel or were classes held in the academy?
Employee. One academy, all my classes were at the academy itself.
When did you start teaching?
Somewhere in 2017.
Well, I’m sold! Do you have any connections that could help me out?
Start by getting some decent items on your teaching CV. Voluntary positions etc, I'll have to do a video on this.

Hi, do you have any good recommendations of tefl courses? There's so many in the uk!!!!
I've spent a lot of time thinking about this topic, my conclusion: It's a total crap fest out there! I followed the accreditation of a lot of TEFL courses, and it turns out a lot of these 'accreditation' companies are also just a bag of nothing...and the courses themselves are also shocking in detail. If you don't have a degree, my advice is to play it safe and get a CELTA. If you do have a degree, choose a TEFL course that shows you real teaching and practical strategies. I've actually got a free one if you're interested, it's in it's BETA stage but it's of good quality. Message me on Instagram if you want the link for the free version... @lewisgreenaway_
Hi, I'm going back to uni to get my BA in English this year with a view of doing TEFL -CELTA and then teaching in Spain or Latin America. I'm a native speaker from the UK and have a BSc but from my research to teach in most schools , they require a BA? This will most likely take me 3 years but I'm determined to get there. Thanks for the content
Hi Kenny, from my experience, it isn't that schools and academies require a BA, it is usually more about being granted a work visa in said country. I'm not familiar with BSc, but I'm assuming it's the same level of qualification as a BA, which would mean you probably wouldn't face a hurdle there. I'm less familiar with Latin America, but certainly in Spain, you could go the route of doing the Language Assistant Program, allowing you to get into the country, get experience, and bypass a lot of excess. I can only imagine that Latin America is even easier. The truth is, most English teachers around the world suck, standing out isn't too hard. As a side note, what type of videos or content would be helpful for you as someone getting into this world of TEFL (please be as specific or vague as you want)? Thanks, Lewis.

In school, you get paid much more, and got lots of vacations, and no, 900€ isn't able to life in spain, prices are way higher
I said it's possible to live on that amount because I personally did it (I'm not lying lol). I'm talking to early 20's people here who are cool with slumming it. I'm vary aware you can make a lot more than this.
