Using local mussels from beneath the pier works best, paired with a Carolina rig and a small hook, like a size 4. Be sure to tie the mussels to the hook with elastic thread. Where do you catch ghost shrimp?
@@mikeb3770 thanks for the tip!
@@mikecalfishing If you want to find a good spot for surf fishing, you can see it from the pier. It’s just south of Calafia Beach. If you park at the Calafia Beach lot, walk south toward the residential area where the coastline curves out toward the ocean. That spot is great for surf fishing
this one of fav spots in misson bay
@@trumansfishing it’s such a nice spot!
Gotta use the bait runner man
@@isaacalexandercruz9045 I know! I was actually using it but I think I forgot to turn it on haha. I want more they are a life saver!
drop shots are finesse techniques. Try doing 10-15 lb braid paired with a 6-8 lb flourocarbon. Cast out, reel the slack a little and keep that rod tip high just like you were doing in the beginning of the video. And when you have your rod tip high with no slack, give it a couple of twitches, reel slack a bit and repeat. Loving the videos!
@@cyrusadvincula9770 oh damn that’s for the top! I’ll have to try it. I don’t really do drop shots so gatta practice
I think you should try smaller hook
@@roddzillah how smaller? I started using size 2/0 and it seems to be working way better.
👍
Fishing the ocean no? Pretty small fish compared to the rest. Not sure why you’re acting like it was rough to bring in a 4lb fish?
@@The.Rooster469 fishing the bay! Haha wasn’t rough bring it in. But I was about 15 to 20 feet away when it took my bait and was pulling my pole. But was easy to bring in.
Where did you see a 4 pound fish
@@garysmith7832your right, it’s 2lbs if that

Sorry for spamming but can you please fish the lakeside lindo lake again thank you would absolutely love it
@@Michael_3924 no worries. I’ll try and go soon. Although I think they might be closed. I think they are trying to get the population back up.
Hi, just wondering why did you release the first fish back?
@ I really only like to catch and release. Also there are legal size limits and I don’t have a way to measure to see if I can keep.
So many fishes caught! Nice.
Nice catches brother!!! 😊 awesome video 🤙
@@Adankayak thanks!
Nice video, is that a two speed reel?
@@Kast2Catch thank you and to be honest I am not sure. I rented it so not sure what it is.
@ welcome, the only reason I ask I went rock fishing which looks like you’re doing and my arms were hurting me lol and supposedly 2 speeds reels are good for this type of fishing
@ it may not have been 2 speed cause my arms were also killing me 😅 plus the water deep was around 350 to 420 feet!
Nice Double up on reds at the beginning
@@michealangelo8558 thanks! It was fun

It’s closest to me.
Why reply if you don't know?
@@geraldspadt9215 not replying would be more rude 😂
San dab
Definitely a brook trout
they dont stock bluegill or bass no california lake does that, public or private. the bluegill and bass got there because fishermen illegally planted them thats how it always was. When it comes to panfish in california parks, dont even bother looking for anything over 8 inches. even that would be considered huge for a park gill. go to skinner and perris for bluegill, both have coppernose gills
What do you recommend to use for bluegill at lake skinner?
That SpongeBob bullie
Either a halibut or starry flounder
Charlie
Charlie is the names fish
Bluegill
It’s a big bluegill 😂
Pretty sure that’s a type of grouper

@mikecalfishing Appreciate it bro, awesome video!
@ thank you!!
Awesome video a great place to fish is Torrey Pines State Beach there’s a lot of Corbina and surfperch all you need to do is a Carolina rig with a size 1/0 Carolina rib and some sand crab
@@Trashtruckmaster thanks! And I’ll have to check it out. Definitely want to try new spots
Good luck!
@@pressstartfrank8606 thanks dude!!
Subscribed! Santee is tricky. Lots of pressure and clear water makes very finnicky fish. You can see the fish rush up to your worm then stop right before the bite. Gulp Garlic spray has helped us get more bites because they seem to rely heavily on smell there. Nightcrawlers on a flouro leader and really small hidden hook gets some results but geeze they are picky there!
@@BreakAndRestore I’ll try that!! Man I went to Santee Lakes again the other day I spent four hours and didn’t catch anything not even bluegill 😂
I saw so many dead trout also
Why are tbe trout dead?@@mikecalfishing
@ I am not sure. I was talking to some one at they mentioned it might be too warm. But not sure if that’s true or not.
To catch bluegill at Santee lakes all you need is a tiny gold treble flylined no bait necessary. Just whip it out there. The float / bobber scares them
@@bossfishbeats7618 I’ll give that a try thanks!!
Sorry bout the skunk. How’d you get the smell off? And hope you had better luck fishing
@@Chodie_Wan oh haha I didn’t get actually skunked I mean “skunked” as didn’t catch anything.
@ I feel dumb now. Haha my bad bro
@ haha sorry. I just learned that term of skunked 😂
@ and I fish often myself and never have said I got skunked in that way 🤣 I just said I had shit luck
Also, what pound line are you using? There are usually use 20 pound pound braid to 30 pound mono.
It’s good to use a heavyweight for 5 ounces. You can really chuck it out there and it gets through the weeds easier
I usually use a Carolina rig here with that hook. I was telling you about.
Also, if you get a fish stuck in the kelp like that, what do you wanna do is just open your bail and give it about five minutes and the fish will find its way out of the snag
Great video that hook you’re using is definitely on the large side. I would recommend using a size 1/0 bait holder hook. It worked great for keeping the shrimp on and it’s a perfect size to catch everything from spotted bass to stingray.
@@Trashtruckmaster thank you!!! 🙏🏼 I’ll try that size. I do feel I lose bites so maybe a smaller hook would be better!
Great video bro you have a new subscriber the best way I found to catch bluegill. Here is using half of a nightcrawler and a split. Just cast it fairly close to the shore and wait for a bite a split with crickets from Petco as well.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask
If you want a good spot to catch bluegill go to old Mission Dam at Mission trails there’s tons there last time I was there. I got three of them in three minutes. I was just using crickets.
@@Trashtruckmaster thank you! And thank you for the tip! Maybe next time I’ll use crickets!
