Birthday celebrations and return gift system sucks...there is a lot of peer pressure among children when most of them do parties running into 20-30k. There is humungous pressure to do the same and invite others . And kids wanting to wear branded stuff😮

I always shop for things like daily wear shoes or chappals and utensils, sabji etc from local market at our Village which is close to Mumbai. The prices there for same things are cheap and all local sellers get the money

Worst generation we are in..!! We were already cooked with pressure and we are expecting same to do for our kids..!!!

For any birthdays or celebrations, instead of accepting gifts, we put a donation box for a charity and strictly tell people to not buy gifts and instead contribute to a cause/charity we choose. It has taken a 3-5 years for people to finally accept and not buy gifts. Initially some people forcefully gifted. Now about 80% of attendees accept our wish and choose to donate. Gifting has its place but is also leading to a wasteful spending and poor quality toys being circulated. When going to other people's events, I buy them a charity voucher that they use to give to charity or split into charities of their choice. People have also started accepting that now. Look for charity giving options in your country.
