Steve Rosse lived on the Thai island of Phuket from 1990-1997. He wrote a very popular newspaper column during those years, in which he told stories about his life. For twenty-five years Steve lived in America, dreaming every day of coming back to Thailand. He returned in May, 2022, and this channel will document his experiences. His books are available on Amazon.

Roses! Pushing it to the limit! lol where ya been buddy we need a new video!!!
Awwwwww… I miss these videos. 😢
Hey Steve, just wanted to wish you a happy early Halloween before I forget. I wasn't able to move to Thailand due my border collie but I did make it to the cooler parts of the Philippines. Thanks for sharing your dream to help us find our own.
I think you should get a parrot and teach it some blessings and some curse's and of course the two most important things to say Have fun ! Be quiet ! That should keep your feet on the ground Your hopes in heaven Your smile on your face. Off now to listen to yul Brynner Sing A puzzlement !
I never comment, but i miss your stories and your style sir. I hope all is well on turtle beach! Greetings from Budapest.
Turtle Beach has talent. ❤
I'm amazed at how many people throw cigarette lighters into the sea. Maybe there is a cigarette lighter factory near by. I've lived most of my life near the ocean and can't remember ever seeing a lighter. It's a mystery. 😊
Nobody is throwing lighters in the sea. Ninety percent of the plastic trash in the oceans comes from city streets. A dog knocks over a trash can, the trash goes in the gutter, the gutter goes to a sewer, the sewer goes to a river, the river goes to the sea. The sea grinds most of it up into microparticles, but lighters are made to hold compressed gas; they are enormously strong and durable. They'll float around for years and never even lose their bright colors. Most of the lighters I find were probably used by street food vendors in Yangon to light their charcoal braziers.
Seen this on my feed, I was happy for a few seconds. Did not see the date. Steve where are you....I know, Turtle beach. No updates? I look on face book and get a peek into the life of Steve Rosse. Waiting for GOM to come back and make the world a better place. Hope you're well.🙏🙏🙏
Ooo I must’ve missed this one in my marathon binge watch of all your vlogs! 🌺❤️👌
Please start making videos again, we all miss you terribly.😕
Thank you for your kind words. I am chronicling the stages of the latest rhinestone reptile and I may cut it together into a video when it's done in about eight weeks. Otherwise I'm really enjoying not counting the days until Friday every week. I'm sleeping until 5 or even 5:30 in the morning. I think my body is finally coming to accept that we're retired now. I want no more deadlines in my life.
@@steverosse ❤️👍🏽
I definitely understand the no more deadlines. Why not make videos randomly? I was enjoying your content. Glad you’re doing ok. Be nice if you gave everyone an update. Stay well steve !!
@@steverosse To echo the other soul, any deadline you thought you had was self-imposed. Need not be a certain day of the week but a maybe in eight weeks, well, what does one say... Next, in the one vid you were in a town on an overpass. Assuming your town and besides what appears to be Tesco/Lotus (Google maps) what else is there? A 7-11 by any chance? Since appears that Thai 7-11s put US of A 7-11s to shame. So maybe a vid on your town. No great/long exposition, just a, here's the Tesco/Lotus, the 7-11, this is best clothing store, and here is where you go for a massage with a happy ending, etc. By the way, may be this vid, but in one you mention mosquitoes. How much dengue and malaria is there? Only consolation re malaria in SE Asia is that is vivax and not falciparum. Had a client who was once hospitalized owing to coming back from the FSM (Federated States of Micronesia) with dengue. Breakbone fever indeed. You and I are not spring chickens, he was in his mid-40s. So be safe. And are there sandflies? If so, how bad are they? Not the bites, but how many. Thanks. I live in HNL. We don't have sandflies and the state does all within its power to keep them out (no. 1 income source is tourism)(ditto the green tree snakes from Guam). Would stay here but appears that after 30 years I am finally starting to develop rock fever, as it were. Just need to last another 3-4 years, then I can go. Again, be safe.
Please don't make me watch the Barbie movie. 😅
I finally got to see it. As a former prop master I had to see it, of course, but I'm also a big fan of Margot Robbie. It loses steam and become preachy in the third act, but the first act is a lot of fun. It was overrated when it came out, but I think people will still be watching it fifty years from now.
Thanking your house touched me Steve. I know from your videos how much you wanted to leave but you still had gratitude in that moment.
It's a weird feeling to watch this now. I wanted to leave that house every day I lived in it, but when the time came I had to force myself to back out of the driveway. It was a great house and I was very lucky my Mom shared it with me.
Poignant…. and love the mini schnauzer!
Thank you!
Hmm.. Hoping Steve secretly working on boontongs episode (loved them) while on hiatus.. missing you Steve.. 💜
When Steve-O coming back..?
Something happen to Steve ? Hope all is well.
Very few videos are as saturated with useful wisdom as this one. This good man should be heard worldwide. But you won't share it now, will you? No. Of coarse not. To share it would enrich the earth. No. Don't share it. Let's instead watch the world become trash, in real time.
Thanks for the book recommendations. I trust you. 😊
Is he still alive?
What is Steve up to?
Was a practicing trial attorney for more years than I care to remember (plaintiffs personal injury aka an ambulance chaser). Does my client's case have more merit if we're both wearing Gucci? But speaking of good clothes, sure, John Dapper Don Gotti (he who loved Gucci), and ever see a serial killer, mass murderer or spree killer not have on their Sunday best in the courtroom? Perhaps they might have shown some respect when it mattered. And if I have no respect? For most, it's either proof of monthly income, which your 1.5K in SS does not meet, so you're parking 800K baht in a Thai bank. And like the paroled felon that you are, those 90 day reports. So what are they expecting, exactly? Why in my comment to your most recent vid, gains and losses, no fan of the non-O. Maybe you'll do me a solid so I can spend my 65K baht monthly or your banks get cheap use of my money. Since you could say, no, in which circumstance me and my money go elsewhere. And please don't pretend it's all sweetness and light. Pit vipers, rabid soi dogs, those monkeys, freelancer kathoeys who can knock my lights out (not in a good way), dengue, malaria, all that trash, those road deaths, etc. In other words, maybe they need up their game. And, no, Sin City (Pattaya) won't ever be a family destination, no matter how many pronouncements they make. Try remember that we have that madness re clothes not to show respect but so some could put a value on us via our clothes, as in, how much money we have, so how much power, and act accordingly. Me and my fellows would every now and again joke over lunch...in the next revolution they won't need to bring rope since our ties work just fine. Not for hanging but for garroting. What is a farang ghetto? I've heard of expat enclaves but never expat ghettos. You gave yourself away with that one. By the way, Hua Hin is small and unassuming enough and there's actually something there. Pancakes, for starters (what you need not give up, despite your prior report)(never tried Mexican food since enough of that back home; besides, even in Las Cruces enough of the Mexican is not Mexican but Tex-Mex, which is mighty tasty but not Mexican). Re mosquitoes, not a hard one. There's water, presumably a vent of some type and while their brains are miniscule it's not rocket science to hang out in the bathroom waiting for you to put your behind down on the toilet whereupon you are a rather inviting target. Back to clothes and respect, given your art hobby, perhaps they might show some respect by not littering the landscape with their plastic and other refuse. A recent piece on how Patong was literally bathed in trash during and following the recent poor weather. By the way, also appears that if one desires to avoid dengue, one might avoid Phuket. The Thai official did not say that, but she did report the highest incidence of dengue cases out of 11 areas in southern Thailand. Lastly, was in your retirement vid but the problem is not, no health insurance, but instead, how far are you from any decent emergency facility? One of my reasons for Hua Hin when the time comes. By the way, if was me, I'd stick with the nitro. Odds for survival for #3 may be poor but so long as not zero there's hope. You have enough souls here, judging by their comments, who'd miss you.
haha, very humorous description of thai boxing
I have some inhaler plastic to recycle. I think you might need them. Good for your projects
Thanks Steve, it never ceases to be comforting being reminded that I'm not the only guy to make a total arsch of himself over a Thai doris.
I miss my postcards from Turtle Beach. I hope your hiatus is a good thing Steve!
Just found your channel, this is awesome :)
Thank you!
I like to listen to your older vlogs whilst I’m cooking supper here in England in a place one hour south of London in a City by the sea, Brighton. Your book ‘Memories…’ arrived today so I’m excited to begin reading that.
Love the way you yawn, haaww. . . Lol😂 love the way turtle beach cocoons you to tranquility, . . And man I want that coffee too 😊 have a nice time always teev . .
Steve I came back to hear your intro song. Haven’t seen you in awhile. Hope you are well.
WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO STEVE ROSSE? 🤫
I wonder if the gut punch has led you to want to write your own legacy novel. I hope so. 🤞
I have been writing memoir, or creative nonfiction, about Thailand for almost forty years. I used to have a very popular newspaper column here in the nineties, and currently I have five books for sale on Amazon.
@@steverosse yes I’ve recently ordered them and will binge read the pile 🥰…. but I’m thinking more about a ‘big novel’ seminal piece of writing that I understand writers dream of leaving behind? (I’m not a writer, I play Saxophone badly but love it as a retirement hobby).
@@BoninBrighton Well, a writer who writes nonfiction obviously doesn't dream of writing a novel. I think "Leaving Thailand" is the best of thirty years of my writing. I'll let that stand as my legacy.
@@steverosse ok I’ll look forward to reading it 🌺
During Jane Austen’s era, ladies were ‘at home’ to visitors for morning visits. Visitors were expected to stay a minimum of 30 minutes to be respectful but not more than 60…. If a Lady wasn’t ‘at home’ well she might be at home but not receiving guests, then the visitors could leave their card. Not many people carry cards now so if you had a visitor book out front you could avoid intrusive visits if you were busy.
Congratulations Steve for making the best of your time in Turtle Beach. Despite your advice to go elsewhere, I found this video to be one of your best.
What’s interesting to me is how many things you’ve done for ‘work’. People are often similarly surprised when I tell stories linked to my past… but I get it. I worked for 40 years full time and that’s a long CV, so not surprising that I got to do a lot of stuff. I’m a story teller, I volunteer as a Tour Guide in my City by the Sea here in Southern England. Have you maybe read Brighton Rocks by Graham Green, or seen the original film with John Mills as Pinky? You’d enjoy it. I’d also highly recommend ’Breakfast in Brighton’ creative non fiction.
Really loved the old photos of you plus your old radio show section but you sounded so different then- AND Genesis AND a Thai cover version of the Rolling Stones too! Wow. ❤
I found out recently that not everyone has a constant conversation going on within…. I didn’t know this and was ‘shocked’ ….so then I did a survey of my friends….and yep many of them really aren’t self chatting like me!! What must that be like though? I can’t imagine… it must be like sleep walking.
Loved the raisin/fly joke!
hi how are you nice to see you❤❤❤❤😮
7 years ago we retired and downsized… both sets of our parents had died before 2003… plus in 2015 our adult son emigrated to Australia so we had x5 people’s stuff in attics, garages, sheds, stables… and hadn’t dealt with any of this stuff plus our own accumulated detritus of living in the big family house for 28 years. We did well, it took 2 years, we got rid of 90% of it… and moved. Phew we did it. We paid monthly to store the 8% and lived quite happily with 2%. After a year we couldn’t recall what the 8% was in those 50 stored boxes… so we got rid of it all. We now live with 2% and we’re still filtering stuff. We feel ashamed of all this stuff we accumulated…. we now live a much more minimal life and it’s great.
So white paint exploding, the bike accident, the fish guts, the dead fish…. was that an end to the Tsunami of attacks from the gods anointing you….
Hi Steve. How is your mother's holiday going? Just to say missing your videos. Will you be back soon?
6.45 thousand subscribers today as I’m catching up September 2024 watching from England.
I’ve been retired 5 years- and I’m a volunteer History Walking Tour Guide in my home City in England…. I spend my time researching local history.
I laughed so much at the mosquito coil clip…. 😂
Just bought this mask book from ‘World of Books’ purely on your recommendation 😅
A mix of Tom Hanks and Steve Martin but uniquely Steve Rosse.
Hahaha 🤪 it wasn’t the last story you told about Phuket in the 90s thank goodness…Sep 2024 loving your RUclips presence. BTW I’m neither bored nor seeking attention… I’m researching Thailand as a possible place to ‘land’ 😅
The idea of that ‘I belong’ in a specific location feeling is very familiar to me. I didn’t realise the dark hole inside me wasn’t simply the long shadow of multiple bereavements decades previously, it was being dislocated from ‘home’. I’ve been home now 7 years, but planning to relocate….perhaps… now pondering if the black hole will come back hmm 🤔
It’s weird watching these 2022 oldest vlogs before you moved to Thailand having seen your latest vlogs 2024…. so satisfying to see the story from the beginning. I’m excited to realise just how many I can ‘consume’ to catch up to date…. tbh I’m also feeling sad in anticipation of the time in the future when I’ll have to wait for weekly vlogs like everyone else ha! Id been binge watching another channel so I know how this goes… now I wait for his weekly vlogs. You’re only the third channel I can stand to watch all the way through, most are just awful and cringeworthy. My channel tribe appears to be you, Tim, and a Michigan guy called Rob (Robb Reset) he doesn’t know how good he is, or why ….he’s kind of a philosopher of his internal life which is appealing. Thank you for your book recommendations also the guy who does clever editing, but a bit too overwhelming for me…. The plan is to come to Thailand 3/4 mths a year then longer term. The first recce is Feb 2025….so let’s see. We have hobbies: we play Saxophone, read, talk, laugh etc so we’re self sustaining.
