A kayak trip around Hastings Lake

I travelled across northern Alberta to capture video and record the sounds of birds in April and May. Thousands of sandhill cranes and snow geese start the spring migration season. Smaller birds come later.

A later winter storm provided an opportunity to record a Ruffed Grouse on its lek in a beautiful setting. The static you hear in the video is the sound of the wet snow landing on my blind. It kept me dry while I captured these images.

A brief encounter with two Northern Hawk-owls in Northern Alberta.

This Red-tailed Hawk nest is about ten minutes from our house. The hawks successfullly raised the two chicks.

Whooping Crane South of Edmonton

While Mama Bear is looking for salmon, Baby Bear just wants to play tag. But Mama is not interested today.

Only two of the over 40 Grizzly Bears we saw on the Chiko River would dive for salmon.

I watched a coyote hunting in a meadow outside of Banff, Alberta for about 30 minutes. During that time it caught two voles. I photographed one capture and videoed the other. A second coyote was sleeping in the meadow while this one hunted.

A mother with three young cubs thinks it has control of the river when it sees a single young bear down river. But then has to turn around when a sibling and mother bear show up.

Mama Bear woke up grumpy this morning!

This video features a coyote hunting on the edge of St. Albert, Alberta. As it is an urban coyote, it allowed me to record and photograph it hunting. Warning, the coyote captures and eats two voles.
