Managed to flag this truck driver down whos trailer was probably about to go up in flames. Called the fire brigade who promptly started cooling it down. Suspected trailer brakes binding/locked

    0:44 "Genius place to park" - that's a bit unfair as they're obviously loading and have a job to do same as you, and let you through almost immediately. Great video otherwise though! I always enjoyed squeezing through city streets in my trucking days.

    Ahh good old London built in the days of a horse and cart and most transport planners think "well the truck has horse power so no problem" nice video and fun to watch but a journey I would'nt want to do, give that one to the spare agency driver.

      Thanks, i later learnt that every other truck who'd ever been there reversed back out, they'd never seen someone even attempt to get around that tight corner before!

      sorry mate but after reading your reply I have got to laugh, had a similar situation on my first day trucking went to a hospital drove in struggled like fuck trying to back around cars and the building hit the truck on a post and did this with a guy watching me all the time when I finally got on the bay the guy came up to me and said "everybody else reverses in" still it's all a game and no one got hurt and I bet you will never forget that delivery and thanks to your camera it's one you and your family can share in the future, all the best.

    You do the same as me and set both google maps up and tomtom side by side and I do this because tom is too slow at times.The funny thing is I have the Ozzy chap on tom and voice recognition on google and they often end up talking to each other lol...im sure they get it on when my backs turned lol.

      ha never had that problem! Yeah i like tom-tom as a trucknav and for traffic but it can be sluggish at times. I use Waze on my phone which is incredibly accurate for traffic and roadworks as well, also, having my phone there means if someone rings me i can see who it is rather than just blindly using a handsfree earpiece and guessing!

    I've had a really mad busy week at work so only getting round to catching up on my favourite RUclipsrs videos. I love the fact that even when you're not doing your "less than normal, normal job", you still manage to find something even less normal during the quite time. I guess at some point you'll be doing parcel deliveries to the North Pole? ;) Really looking forward to the Europe stuff coming up. Have you done Europe work before or is this the very first time? I'd love to do it but in my head trying to navigate the ports in a HGV where they don't speak English sounds like a nightmare. Edit: Thanks for the mention. :D

      Yes, prefer keeping things like this quiet to keep the pressure off. Even my parents didn't know I was doing it! For the time being in staying with the company I work for on rigids. I mainly got it done as I had some time off and it seemed like the logical thing to do. Hoping to get some agency work in to help drill it all in before I go back to "normal" work in October. But I think long term I'll end up working on arctics, still doing music stuff. I place in your roll call would be much appreciated! And thanks. It's you and seggons who've given me the kick up the arse to do the C+E as I'd have happily just sat on a rigid licence without seeing both of your videos.

      +MGR1610 precisely. I was only going to do some rigid agency or something anyway, whereas now I can sign onto an fancy and hopefully get some artic experience in before I go back to my normal job. Be good if I can just to drill it all in.

  • @ScottandAlana4x4
    @ScottandAlana4x4 8 лет назад

    Get in there! Well done Hammy on passing the test and keeping it so quiet in the videos! My reply on my video was going to be weather you could drive artics or not and this video well and truly answers that. Good luck getting an artic to some of the venues you attend. ;) By the way if you ever get a job with Stagetruck, FlyByNight or any of the others on the artics, put in a good word for me. ;)

    • @99hammy99
      @99hammy99 8 лет назад

      Yes, now I can drive one legally! I'll still be working rigids for the same company. I only really did it as I've got some time off and it seemed stupid not to make use of the free time. I think the far future will involve looking for work with those companies though, if anything pops up I'll shout seggons at them! I have to say, it's your videos and fast as fox who've given me the kick up the arse to get it sorted so many thanks. Now the real learning starts!

    • @99hammy99

      I took a very similar route and only told my dad (mainly because I live with him). I even kept my brother in the dark despite working with him at the time. It just made things slightly less pressurised and less awkward if I failed. Edit: Enjoy the time off that you have to recharge those human batteries.

  • @MGR1610
    @MGR1610 8 лет назад

    What do you do in between tipping and loading at a festival? Do you just have free time to do what you want and can you go where you want in the festival or are you restricted to the public areas and backstage of the stage your parked at.

    • @99hammy99
      @99hammy99 8 лет назад

      It's basically time to do what I want. Usually end up fetching meals for people as they can get really busy in the stage. Each festival is different, sometimes your pass will get you anywhere, sometimes only certain areas. Working in this industry you soon get over seeing famous people anyway. I spend a fair bit of time just reading, sitting in the sun and maybe having a wander to watch a band every now and then.

    Apart from a little more tilt down the view is coming on a treat! It's also good to see you're slowly getting back to your normal time of work which is silly pm/am. :D Also a freaky thing kept happening, every time you mentioned your company name the sound magically dropped out. ;) If it wasn't for DAF putting that silly divider in the window the view would've been perfect at 8:25. It must take a serious amount of trucks for all of that gear at the reading festival! 23:28 The reason why your job must really suck. I mean side of stage with the best view in the house, what an awful life you have. ;) It's funny how front of house looks amazing, backstage looks like a dump. Another amazing video which leads me to be slightly more jealous of your job.

    • @99hammy99
      @99hammy99 8 лет назад

      Yes whoever designed those Daf Windows obviously never planned on using the mirrors. Just a tad more down tilt, way better than the first attempt though. Best view in the house for sure although sometimes it's better watching in the crowd if you want to see the light and video show as well. Hopefully it's acted as a real insight into what backstage at a major festival is actually like. Certainly not as attractive as people think! Glad you enjoyed it dude. I've got no music work this month as its always dead but I might end up doing some agency work after I've had a week off. Maybe make a video out of that. It'll be a change from music work anyway!

    • @ScottandAlana4x4
      @ScottandAlana4x4 8 лет назад

      What actually happens when it goes quite? Is it like a 0-hours contact where no gigs mean no work or are the trucks used for general haulage work? I think it's Transam Trucking that puts their units onto container work when things go quite.

      +Seggons I'm self employed so when the company is quiet I have to look elsewhere. I'm due to take a week or so off like any normal person would as holiday leave anyway so it's only really the last 2 weeks of September I need to find something to do. The trucks generally just stay at the lockup. Some companies put them into general haulage like Transam but the lot I work for don't. They'll probably go into the garage for a full on inspection and have any minor problems properly looked into while we've got the time. As you can imagine, there's rarely a chance to take them for repair when we're busy.

      I guess that's where our industries vary massively. If a truck goes down it's a simple phone call to say the delivery will be rescheduled for the next day. But in your line of work I'm guessing you cannot phone the artist to tell them all their sound gear won't be arriving until the day after... :D

      +Seggons certainly not which is why we keep on top of problems as much as we can. Even calling Daf aid out to sort things while I'm parked up during the day. Same for blowouts, straight on the phone to ATS to get a new one and get going. The truck is pretty much the weakest link in the chain as you're relying on it to work correctly all of the time. Biggest pain with modern trucks is sensor faults which can put you in limp mode. Big problems and generally quite rare nowadays, it's always stupid electronic stuff that causes problems.

      Thanks dude. I hope to show people what the job is really like. Far from the glitz and glamour people seem to think it is! Still a great job none the less.
