I was a teen early or 20s and Learned from this speech the concept of the difference between being right and being righteous. Well I tried to Jedi Mind trick my mom. First time seeing this. Being compared to this woman a majority of my life from high school to this day. I love her. I wish she would have provided details on how to acquire tough skin through the creator and what that looks like. Because when we just make statements of what happened, we don't really provide how it happened. What That looks like? Who it comes from. Provide examples the stories. Standards and boundaries created. The pain from the experiences that disappointed and hurts crushed. The decisions and benefit of the doubts that we give. The tricks the leaps and bounds, the falls, and limitations.The behavior the resolve of it all. This is what we are witnessing today on the internet people sharing stories and people evolving and devolving from a word.

So many artists make many records that never make the impact her one album has made.

I’m not religious, but her message, and her truth, hits all the same. She’s really such an inspirational person, she might not be perfect in her personal life, but her words are so powerful, the way she describes the experiences and mindsets of life in a succinct way, the mountains, the baggage, how we think about vs how we feel love, how challenges can make us better, how we can always learn, even analogies with the Matrix are very meaningful. Hearing what her daughter said is horrible, but it is also true that some of the most influential philosophers and most influential entrepreneurs/creatives are a bit crazy, and ppl like John Lennon and Steve Jobs were horrible in their personal lives. Its strange that Lauryn Hill gets defamed and degraded for her personal life, her career torn down, but ppl like Lennon and Jobs remain infallibly immortalised (read some bio’s and you’ll know this isn’t slander but fact)

Why isn't she in the spotlight anymore? She speaks honestly, genuine, is not afraid to speak those harsh truths or be direct, she doesn't talk in a media-trained way just to be part of youtube compilations or funny interviews like most celebrities do nowadays. How did she become completely ignored by the larger public, and now we have singers that do nothing with their position or fame except be part of scandals and just rake in the dough. There's exceptions of course but the way celebrities have been conditioned now to appeal to internet popularity and internet approval means that so much of our pop-culture comes across soulless, any time any one has anything political to say they're a pretentious piece of shit and collectively heckled. What the fuck does our pop-culture exist for if its only to create content, endless content, just mundane and with little impact. We really have let our culture become industrialised, its either used by corporations to appeal to certain parties or target demographics using algorithms, rather than the artist having their own platform.
