Queen Anne’s Reef ROOM TOUR on 3-10-2021
Hey man, great job on the video. Could I talk to you in private regarding quarantine?. Thank you :)
Bet you used way more glue lol
Great video - I would add you should consider using RODI water inside cuvette with q-tip. Comes off faster and lest likely to scratch plastic cuvette.
Thank you for such a detailed explanation. I just got a Calc Reactor this video will make the set up very helpful.
Thank you such an awesome video appreciate you ❤happy reefing 🪸🪸🪸🐠🐠🐠🐠
Shouldnt purified water with O TDS be fine? We use it to clean our hanna checkers and any other testing kit.
Great Question!!! Yes. RO/DI with 0 TDS should be totally fine. At the time of the release of this video, it was recommended to not use anything. After further experimentation and maintenance on my personal Tridents I have in the reef room, it’s totally safe to use. Try to still avoid scratches on the curvette.
@@queenannesreef9271 thanks for the reply man. Just actually finished cleaning it right now. Hope all works. Fingers crossed. I wish they had a diagram online about the solenoids with which reagent goes to which number solenoid. Just to make sure they are all connected correctly. They could’ve color coordinated everything too.
@@shoxite so I’ve actually made my own diagrams and have figured out all of the Trident at this point. I’ve had several people locally have me fix their Trident. The most common issue tends to be a B fail or some type of B failure. And this is typically cause by corrosion or water damage in the bottom solenoid. The unit is actually quite interesting to watch function after your strip it down to bare bones and then run sequence testing with it. Although it won’t give proper readings when it’s stripped down. I’m glad you had success in cleaning your Trident. Thank you for watching the channel.
@@queenannesreef9271 no thank you for sharing your experience! Helps a lot!
Just ordered one in white. It was 15% off today. Fingers crossed!
They’re a fantastic sump. You won’t be disappointed
It doesn't come through in the video how big this skimmer is. I have the 8-24 and it is massive! Easily a 12" by 8" footprint and at least a foot and a half tall. Works great, though.
Yes. It is a very large skimmer and has a large footprint in the sump. It definitely needs the Bashsea SS-60 sump (or some other brand of large sump) to accommodate for the size. It’s an excellent skimmer and we’ve had no issues with it. 👍
Excellent detail and explanation
Thank you. We just want everyone to understand and have knowledge to enjoy the hobby and be successful and not get frustrated. 👍
I just ran into the problem where all of my reagents were saying "bad reading".... "out of range", etc. Reading 0's across the board. I followed this video yesterday, cleaned the vial, made sure tubes were tight (they were), and carefully re ran the reagents into the unit, AND IT WORKED! Vial was gross (less than a year old), and after putting it back together, everything came back to what I've been seeing for many many months. Great video, and very easy to follow / do.
Excellent! Glad you were able to get your Trident running well again.
Just bought a used trident cheap because it was giving a calcium no read. Hoping I get it back up and running myself after watching this video. Thanks for the tutorial. Also you never mentioned if this solved your issue
You’re most welcome. And yes it fixed the error. Reagent was unable to travel from reagent B bottle to test. Fixing the line solved the Error, and cleaning the unit helped settle the irregular test readings.
Super helpful
Glad it was a help. Just don’t be fearful of the unit. After understanding the components, it’s no problem cleaning and maintaining! 👍
Mine's been a paper weight for the last year. I really need to pull it apart and get it back to working order
Go for it! 👍 The Trident actually is a great piece of equipment when maintained and calibrated.
Who makes those lights
These lights are ViparSpectra
beautiful box cutter and sump. I have the 36" version

Thank you! I learned how from the best!
How the NSA looking now
Tank looks amazing. Rockscape is really nice in person
I am not sure if this colorimetry looks like photometry photometry is based in light absorbed and measured with ldr like how hanna testers works
Hey, Happy that I found your channel, I will be setting up a 375 gallon tank using bashsea products. How tall is your stand? I see you will have no issues cleaning the skimmer cup. Amazing setup!
Thank you! This aquarium and stand had two options for the stand when we ordered from Planet Aquariums. A 36” or a 42”. We went with a 42” stand for eye level viewing and for hight clearance on equipment in the sump area. We knew the skimmer would be massive. We are loving the Bashsea products as well. Best of luck to you on your build. 👍
Deluxe presentation here. Coincidently, I also have a B error. Going to pop the case off now and charge ahead ! THANK YOU VERY MUCH ! 😘👍🏼
You’re welcome. I hope you’re able to get your issues fixed. There is a lot more to tearing down the Trident, but wanted to keep this video basic. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.
Turns out, a thorough cleaning as you taught, was all it took. 10 Q-tips later, ha. No more B error/fault. Thank you, 1 more time. ⌚🌴❤️
Took me too long to realize that those 4 rubber feet UNSCREWED ! Duh !
@@mybeachshack you’re quiet welcome. Glad it was helpful. 👍
I had UPS deliver a laptop and the box was mangled, I asked the UPS driver if i check it. He said "I don't have time to stick around, I will just mark it as damaged and left" Nice video and Sump. Thanks for sharing.
Yes sir! The driver was great! He actually cared and was awesome! Thank you for watching. 👍
Don't buy one of these skimmers. I bought one and it came defective and damaged. bashsea stuck me with it and now I'm out 700 dollars. the build quality is the worst I've ever seen. they don't stand behind their products.
Like I said 3 MONTHS AGO when you left comments on our channel… I’m sorry YOU had a bad experience. Apparently your salty about the whole situation and I totally understand if you are. However, The company has been good to us and we stand by their products. Personally I’ve seen nothing but great reviews on this product. I’m not sure why YOU had a bad experience with them, and I wish I could help you with your issue but this product is fantastic.
Thanks for the video. Very informative! Gonna keep this for if I have any issues with mine. 😊
You’re welcome, glad it was able to help you out. There is so much more I would like to teach about this unit, but I wanted to keep this video simple for basic cleaning. And thank you for watching.
What lights are you using
These are the ViparSpectra 165 watt LED panels
I'm setting up a 340-gallon mixed reef tank, would you recommend the Bashsea 8-30 skimmer?
Absolutely! I get excellent results out of the one on the 310. If you don’t purchase the pump that Bashsea offers with the skimmer, make sure you choose an adequate pump to match the skimmer. This skimmer is a beast and it requires a high GPH pump. 👍
I just started my youtube channel i should make a video like this this looks pretty fun n maybe i can rescape my 125 gal
Nice work on your aqua scape. 👍. Just ordered two black box led fixtures for a frag tank. Hope they gave you a discount with as many as you have. 👍
We’ve actually reached out to them for a sponsorship… no response yet… maybe though 😆
That bead in the test chamber is a stir bar. It's held by a magnet on the stirrer and spins during a test. If you lose that the trident is garbage. The colorometer just measures colour, just lile a titration test you do by hand and watch for the colour change from pink to blue, the trident does the same thing. The colorometer can see the change better then your eye can.
Nice job. I am a firm believer in ViparSpectra lights. I have 3 over my tank. Keep it up.
Absolutely! They’re honestly a fantastic light for the price.
Nice 👍
Oh good times
I agree! 😆
Have you thought of the 300watt viparspecra's? I love mine compared to two separate fixtures
Yes we actually did heavily consider those. Unfortunately, the center bracing on the aquarium would have caused a lot more shadow casting along the area where we would be placing the SPS. We do like them though! 👍
thanks for the video i have to do it my trident got crazy
You’re welcome
What connection are you using for the pump connection to the barbed fitting on the skimmer that allowed you to hard plumb it?
We used a flex line from the hard plumbing to the barb connector on the skimmer. This specific Bashsea skimmer requires a 1” input line from the pump. The pump already has a union made to it so, this is the order of assembly from the pump to the skimmer. 1” union at the pump glued to a straight 1” PVC. Straight 1” PVC glued to a 1” 90 degree slip to slip elbow. 1” 90 degree slip to slip elbow glued to 1” straight PVC. 1” straight PVC to 1” barb fitting (slip). 1” barb (slip) to 1” flex hose line. 1” flex hose line connects to 1” barb on the skimmer. @ 0:27 you can see all the plumbing assembly pretty well. Hope this is helpful. Thanks for the question.
Great video! Love the touch tank! Such a cool idea.
Thank you so much! My daughter loves the touch pool. The “reef room” has changed tremendously since this video was shot. We will soon be shooting a new updated reef room tour.
@@queenannesreef9271 awesome I am looking forward to seeing it! Great videos, I watch a few of them tonight.
How many lbs of sand did you use in the end?
We used 300 lbs of Fiji Pink sand for this build.
@@queenannesreef9271 Awesome! Thanks for replying!
@@jarrodsreef7559 you’re welcome… anytime. 👍
poor quality construction. there was defects in the plastic causing it to leak. the owner of bashsea refused to warranty it. I hope you never have to deal with him on an issue. I got stuck with mine. now I'm out almost 700 dollars. plus the pump.
We’re sorry you’ve had a bad experience with them. We understand it happens, and we hate you couldn’t work something out with them. Like we said, we’ve had a great experience with them and love the craftsmanship of their work.
I bought one of these. its a piece of junk. there is no warranty. the manufacturer is very hard to deal with.
We replied to your comment in our previous video. We’d like some details on what’s going on. We absolutely love it and have had no problems with the skimmer. Great performance and great craftsmanship. I’m unsure what issues you’re having.
don't buy bashsea. they sold me a defective skimmer and would not take care of it. there is no warranty or guarantee. now I have an 800 dollar piece of garbage in my basement.
Can you tell me what was defective about your Bashsea skimmer? What model? And what reason why they wouldn’t take care of it? We run the Bashsea 8-30 Twisted Skimmer on our SS-60 sump. Which you can see on one of our other videos on our channel. We’ve been very impressed with this product all around and love the performance. I’m sorry you’ve had a bad experience, but we love it.
Photos nor video do this beast any justice. The skimmer is huge and a perfect accoutrement to the beast 310 gallon
This is true… photo or video does not show how large this piece of equipment really is.
I'm curious, have had a 32 gallon tank setup for almost 2 years. Reef tank with just some cheap zoas. I want to ask about deals. Is it worth a 2 hr drive to buy. The LFS are so expensive with frags in my area.
It all depends on what you are looking for. Zoas will range in prices (5-10 pp or 100-1000+ pp). You have to decide what’s worth it to you. We’ve ordered online, attended shows, and traveled 4+ hours for what we feel is a good deal.
@@queenannesreef9271 thanks so much. I’ll give it a try.
Amazing! I love the NSA aquascape. Please keep us updated. Thanks

Looks awesome, definitely quality work… how much was it?
It’s an excellent sump! Quality craftsmanship, and an amazing looking sump. We will more than like be using a Bashsea twisted protein skimmer also. If you check out some of our more recent videos, you can see the sump in operation. Before Tax and Shipping, it was around $1,050 USD.
Awesomeness! TY for producing this incredible video of the Reef Chicks United get together at The Reef Farm. A great time was had by all 🧜♀️
Very cool and great job!
Thank you!
absolutely amazing! love that massive tank!!!
Thank you!
Awesome video! Thanks!
loved watching the process of this sir!
I've been anxiously waiting for my SS-48 for 4 months.
We hope your sump made it and you love it! 👍
Quick question. When adding the salt to the tank. Do you find it necessary to put it per se in the return pump area in the sump or just dump it straight into the display area of the tank? Just want to know your opinion on how to mix salt appropriately.
In a brand new set-up, it’s honestly irrelevant... As long as you get your salinity level to where it needs to properly be before adding live sand or rock. After a tank is set-up, saltwater should be mixed in a separate mixing station and brought to proper salinity level outside of the system before water changes or any other tank maintenance.
