XC-142 VTOL - attempt to take-off and land like a conventional aircraft.
Here we have the experimental U.S. VTOL aircraft the XC-142.
I have flown it VTOL but the manual states not to try take-off's and landings as a conventional aircraft.
It behaves itself quite well in flight so I thought lets give it a go the result of which is in this video.

XC-142 VTOL experimental aircraft from Unique Models

Here we have the XC-142 experimental tilt wing VTOL radio control model made by Unique Models. This model is fitted with a gyro to aid the transition from vertical to horizontal and back to vertical flight. The transition to horizontal flight isn't bad but back to vertical again can be a handful as the aircraft needs to slow down to a crawl for the transition to be smooth, then power needs to b...

Freewing de Havilland Venom maiden flight - purchased from MotionRC

Here we have the maiden flight of the Freewing de Havilland Venom. This is a 1500mm wingspan aircraft powered by a 90mm EDF unit. With the battery I was using I had to add 55g of weight to the nose to get the CofG to the recommended 105/110mm. Slightly nose heavy on the maiden with a couple of clicks needed on the elevator so I will remove 10g. This is an ideal first big EDF aircraft as it is v...

I can't remember the the elevator/aileron travels but I did put 30% expo on both. Elevator trim was needed for the maiden flight as it wanted to climb with level trim. Hope all goes well.

    Hi Gary, thanks for the vid & info, where did you end up with the C of G as I have one. Using Speky Safe helps hand launch with mine + no thrust vectoring. Mine pitches up if the THR is chopped, IMO to do with the cheat holes and thrust tube angle.

    • @garyflint1965
      @garyflint1965 2 года назад

      Hi Chris, my c of g is exactly to the manual so 20mm back from where the main wing intersects the fuselage. I have to wait for a descent headwind before flying mine, this makes the hand launch easy. I find that most edf jets with a large wing area pitch up when the throttle is chopped, they do settle after a couple of seconds though.

    • @garyflint1965
      @garyflint1965 3 года назад

      I have 1.7 meters of bungee cord, the line from the end of the bungee to the pedal is 1 meter and the line from the end of the bungee to the aircraft is 0.6 meters. I stretch the bungee 7-8 meters measured from the end of the launcher, be sure to use a decent sized peg for the bungee as the nail supplied would cause serious injury. As the Panther is very similar to the Mig my placing the hook 205mm from the fuselage nose tip should be more or less the same. One other thing to note is the bungee cord supplied will perish over time so check it after a couple of months of use. On launching be prepared for the aircraft to roll to the left, hope this helps and good luck.

    Good Job on an under engineered model. Unfortunately LX has done nothing to improve their models for the last ten years. That's why reputable retailers wont touch them. If Freewing or FMS were to get their hands on the rights to make this model I would buy one in a second. Notice how hard it is to just fly comfortably level? Notice LX still uses the crappy landing gear even though there have been great improvements on RC landing gear in the last few years. Notice the landing gear is glued directly to the foam? Notice how tight your battery bay and interior is? Why buy a PNP model and have to replace things like the retracts and junk servos. Oh well, it does look nice hanging from the ceiling...…..

      I agree with 100%. Such a shame as this aircraft has so much potential. If you check out my other video with this aircraft you will see the drastic measures to achieve a good flight with this aircraft. ruclips.net/video/uKDGIsi2VgA/видео.html

      Hi, I used the parts listed below. After a couple of flights I decided to remove the gear altogether and hand launch the aircraft with great success. ruclips.net/video/uKDGIsi2VgA/видео.html hobbyking.com/en_us/servoless-retract-with-metal-trunion-44mm-x-41mm-mount-2pcs.html hobbyking.com/en_us/servoless-steerable-nose-retract-with-metal-trunion-44mm-x-41mm-mount.html hobbyking.com/en_us/alloy-110mm-straight-twin-wheel-oleo-nose-leg-strut-for-5mm-mounting-pin-1pc.html hobbyking.com/en_us/alloy-108mm-offset-oleo-strut-for-5mm-mounting-pin-1pc.html

    Nice plane Gary! Where and how did you mount a hook on the plane? Just forward of cg? Damn, mate! Your landings are buttery and silky smooth. So smooth that what should be seen as a hard line between air and ground is blurred by your lovely landings mate! Gorgeous!!

      Hook is mounted half way between cg and nose tip. Thanks for your kind words.

      No vices whatsoever. Set all the control surfaces nice and level, strap the battery onto the tray and fly...that's it. Cheers.

    I was sat at work waiting for a compile and wondered if anyone had made a lightening out of foam yet :) Very nice work. It looks amazing and doesn't look like it needs much work to make it fly as good as it looks.

      Hi Stephen, I got it dialled in quite quickly on this flight. Unfortunately on the second flight disaster struck. One of the servos malfunctioned on elevator flipping it over and burying the nose into the ground, a complete write off I'm afraid.
