Jackery designs a new Solar Panel for Vanlife & RV living
Просмотров 1,3 тыс.14 дней назад
Traditional fixed solar panels that can withstands many years of outdoor exposure are not designed for moving vehicles. Since large buildings, rooftops, and homes required a cheap but robust design, traditional glass and metal framed panels are large, bulky, unattractive and feature dangerously sharp corners. None of this is ideal for rooftop solar on a moving vehicle or boat deck. Surely a new...

    I have mine South facing ground mounted vertical bi facial in the open. Simple 2x4 frames 6 pcs per panel. 465W panel production #'s, heavy rain and dark clouds 76w, total overcast 125w, summer sun no reflective 300w, snow and sun 569w. Max power in Dec, lower in summer with 16 hours of sun is more than needed. Snow never stuck, wash panels annually. My total Pv is x 27 those numbers. 30 mins after sunrise from the NE 1kw total. I tried East West from 10am to 2 pm, crap numbers in clear sky's, mount south vertical. Next year adding white rock around the arrays, firebreak and boost spring and fall

    River2 Pro here. The fans are ON during charging at all times from the lowest 100W to the fastest at 850W, it makes no difference, sadly. So it also boils down to how many hours you'll be hearing something akin to a vacuum in your living space on a daily basis. Having said that, It's 26 degrees inside and I'm yet to detect any significant heat coming off the unit during charging or discharging.

    It has some neat battery tech for sure. Solar charging okay primarily a wall charger not interested in charging from the wall. I use solar to charge with the sun not the wall. I can not find anything on what the voltage limit is on the solar input? It's great these batterys last this long but if the inverter etc.. doesn't it doesn't really matter. I would like to see the industry focus on that as well. Most people probably think this will last 10 years but it won't if the other components wont. You are not just buying a battery. No one focuses on that but it should be addressed because its kind of misleading. Thats not a hit on your content I love your channel! To me its the elephant in the room that no one mentions. It's why I wont by big power stations like a delta ultra. I would just do diy victron type system because you can actually fix it. If my delta charge controllers go I am out 30,000 grand or whatever high dollar amount you put into it.

    • @SoGenFan
      @SoGenFan 4 дня назад

      I couldn't find info on the solar specs, sorry. If I had to make an educated guess - it's likely the same charge controller as the Anker C1000, which is 600w / 60v / 15A (again just a guess). A lot of these companies pull parts from the same suppliers. For longevity, the SiC (and GaN) components in theory should last longer simply due to the better thermal properties. It is funny though, how everyone touted LiFePO4's long life, when in reality, even NMC batteries would most likely outlast the other components as well. Let's hope this LFP / SiC / GaN combo can actually deliver 10 yrs of daily use. 👍

    they made 3 mistakes: 1. No DC outputs 2. No Out only on one of usb type-C, at least would make sense to increase capacity of Power Stations that support charging from usb or xt60 (for example EcoFlow River2/Max/Pro) 3. Low capacity for this size Look at Xiaomi sub brand Cuktech 30 300watt powerbank for cheaper price it has more capacity and much watts and much more interesting

    This was very helpful, thank you for posting. As a non-technical person, I bought this unit with the intention of keeping it plugged in into the wall and running my CPAP through it so that the CPAP stays on if the electricity goes out in the middle of the night, which happens frequently in my area. I’m wondering if I need to occasionally unplug it from the wall and drain it down before recharging it to preserve the battery life or, perhaps, if I should have gone the way of a UPS system instead. Do you have any insight on whether this can be used in such a manner?

    • @SoGenFan
      @SoGenFan 11 дней назад

      Yes, occasionally draining it down is a good idea. Does it need to stay plugged in all night? Perhaps you can just run your CPAP off this battery and then recharge it in the morning? As for UPS, it would require a AC inverter, and then you would need to run the inverter all the time, which is inefficient and a reliability concern when using it as a "full-time" UPS (plus it's wasteful on grid power, and reduces runtime on battery power). So that is not a better option for a DC powered CPAP.

    Hi, Very grateful for you, so for a full year, what the percentage "Vertical" panels give you of the "Annual maximum" capacity output? Thank you

    • @SoGenFan
      @SoGenFan 17 дней назад

      It depends how far you live from the equator. The further you are, the sun has more angle and it will hit vertical mounted panels better throughout the year. Although during summer, the sun angle is reduced, and vertical panels will not provide good power. This can be solved with a moving mount, that can be tilted more horizontal during summer and tilted vertical during winter. 👍

    So no heat is ok. If its heating its not ok?

    • @SoGenFan
      @SoGenFan 18 дней назад

      Well heat is always produced. The fan blows it away. But the batteries get hotter and hotter. Some new power station models have a temperature sensor on the battery, and you can see the temperature in the App. If you cannot see the battery temp, it is hard to know. But you can use "C Rate" to guess. Keep the charge or discharge below 0.5C (1C = battery capacity in watts. Example: 240wh battery (Jackery 240) charging (or discharging) at 120 watts is 0.5C). 240wh at 240 watts is 1C If you are doing passthrough charging - take the combined total of input & output (Example: 100w output and 20w input, the total is 120w or 0.5C again). Higher C rates can be done for a short time. It is OK because it takes a while for the battery to get hot. But it is not recommended to do high C rates for a long time.

    Tested the EU version bought in Germany in 2024, it actually has 460Wh battery. An appliance that was constantly pulling 500W worked for 43 minutes, which is about right considering ~80% efficiency. It explains why it weights 10 kg - there is a fairly large battery inside (that and the case as well). But the station in terribly slow to charge. It takes 6.5 hours with the adapter it came with, lol. The speed of charging is 70W, absolutely abysmal. I have other Ctechi stations (GT200, GT500) and they all can be charged via USB-C for additional 60W of input. I was hoping that this one could do the same, but no. So it's kind of a bummer, but 460Wh, 600W for 180 Euro is not that bad. Fans are indeed rather quiet.

    I got my jackery explorer 300 (new version) lately, and there are some things ppl usually won't tell you on reviews, that This reviewer does: 1. only 1 usb gives u PD and over 11w. other usb c and A are low wattage 10w-11w. 2. The explorer (new version) doesn't have a designated port for solar panels. charging it from USB via solar panel, means u can't charge anything else during that time, for over 11w, unless using the DC port with a car charger or the AC appliance 220v port. 3. when the AC port is on, even without anything plugged in (no load), will drain the battery pretty significantly. (around 1% every 30 mins)

However, when the light came on and I plugged the station in, the error disappeared and everything worked. I then unplugged it, turned it off, turned it back on and everything works. Well 35w running for a possible 10 hours would require a larger power station (with larger battery). The minimum I would recommend then is a "Bluetti AC50B". The,,-22C startup support,, as the company is calling it , doesn't say that you can recharge this power station in low freezing temperatures, this is an advertisement and it simply says that you can use this power station in cold conditions and nothing is wrong with that, since you can actually use it in such a low temperature but you can't recharge it in this low temperature since you will damage the battery, looks like you don't understand what they are pointing out and you are telling funny stuff. Dont give people wrong info, you better take this video down

    • @SoGenFan

      This video is simply an overview of the content provided by Growatt. The picture you are referencing does indeed show an input cable connected, which is why I am asking Growatt for clarification on the "cold startup" support feature. If the battery has self-heating, the cells -in theory- would not be below freezing, so charging would still be possible. If the battery is too cold (below freezing), Growatt states this product has low temperature protection anyways (i.e. the battery will not accept charge if it's too cold). "Additionally,integrated with a Battery Management System (BMS), it delivers comprehensive protection against over/low temperature, voltage fluctuations, short circuits, and overloads, ensuring a durable and secure user experience."

      @@SoGenFan he what are you talking about,, does indeed show an input cable connected'' take a closer look indeed you can see the 120V charging input is not connected, pay attention, also I know that you can expect to have all the safety in the future but it doesn't mean this unit have any low cold temp protection please verify this first.

      Lithium batteries like to be used. If it sits around unused, you MUST keep the battery between 30 - 80%. Otherwise the state-of-charge (SOC) will eventually drop to BELOW 0% which permanently damages the battery. Also note that storing the battery at a high SOC (like 100%) will cause the battery to degrade, so that is not recommended either (although you will have less chance of it dropping too low obviously which is the worst thing). If you buy a power station, use it!

    I've been a huge fan of the Goal Zero products for several years now and despite faults and flaws in the earlier offerings, I fell out of love and trust for the products after purchasing 2 x GZ 400 Lithium ( one failed, it was brand new and only lasted 3 weeks before developing a charging issue due to faulty components ) and a GZ 500 Lithium ( that loses charge by up to 40% while in stand by mode over 3 months! ). I'm here in Australia and there is no customer support. I've had a GZ 100 solar panel fail amongst many other issues...since then, I've switched over to EcoFlow for a power bank and Renogy for their solar panels and haven't had an issue over the last 3 years! While the lead acid battery technology is poor and dated, it's still cheaper to replace, cold weather proof, batteries for my 3 x Yeti 400's I can change over myself at a fraction of the cost of a Lithium pack ( with the bonus of being expandable in terms of power storage ). I'm keen to know what the long term ownership of this new range will be like, as I can no longer trust this brand that has let me down and has proved to be very poor value for money...

    I love these little portable power stations. I have 2 of the pecron e600's. 1200 watt inverter 614wh lifepo4. This thing takes up to 400 watts of solar the newer ones are 300 watts of solar still great number. Same price as this one. This unit you displayed is really light 13lbs is insanely light. My pecrons weigh 20lbs each. This is a great little unit to use around the house for little things and its so light. Nice find!
