Get the ins. For sure. Was in Dublin last summer and my 80 year old dad fell and banged his head pretty good. Ended getting stitched up and a night in the hospital even though the bill was insanely cheap compared to the US. His travel insurance reimbursed him the full amount. Like $300 bucks.

Been to Ireland twice. Had a great time. I went in the summer and the weather was a combination of spring, summer and fall that we have in the US. And as long as you have good manners and a good sense of humor, you should have a wonderful time.

We are coming to Ireland in September! Flying into Dublin and not hanging out long! We would love to stay in Ireland for 2 weeks! Is it possible to cover the southern and northern areas in two weeks? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Here in Newfoundland I always hold the door open for other if they’re close enough! Unspoken politeness imo! I once went to Ireland for a concert. When I came back to the hotel room, found my self at an intersection with a traffic light. There were police in that spot so I figured I'd just wait for the pedestrian light to turn green, as a good willed law abiding citizen... BIGGEST MISTAKE OF MY LIFE... Goddamn light stayed red for like 10 minutes before I decided to bail outta there lol. No wonder Dubliners don't bother waiting XD

Grand = great I learned that when I worked in concerts for a decade, and worked set up for a Nazareth show, when asked how they felt about the local production quality, the response was.... Ahhh it was fuckin grand!

Flew into Shannon in May, stayed in Galway in a Bed and Breakfast, rented a car (practice driving on the left side of the road with driver's stearing wheel on right side of the car and gear shifter on the left hand). Took a ferry out to the Aran Islands to purchase a hand woven sweater, played golf at Lahinch along the Cliff's of Moore. Played golf at the Abbey in Adare and stayed in a BNB there as well to gain local knowledge (breakfast is definitely different - brown bread, tomato, thick bacon and beans, coffee was always good). Lunch at the Tralee Golf Course (note there are no steaks, and the roast beef is different as it is over gravied, get the fish), drove the Ring of Dingle and the Ring of Kerry. There is no better party atmosphere in all of Ireland than in a pub in Killarney. Everyone sings, everyone buys rounds for one another and don't be shocked when you are asked, "How are you Yanks enjoying our island?"....concerned look on my face lead to the question, "How did you know I was American?"...because we were very clean was the response...hmm. The golf at Cork and the Pink Elephant in Kinsale were fantastic and a must see for a pint. Went to the Waterford Crystal factory and did the tour before driving back up to Dublin (a wonderful and fun city with a very Boston feel) Went to the Guinness brewery and to the Trinity College to see the Book of Kells. Always had the local brews. Harp, Smithwicks, Guiness/Murphy's...while all the locals will drink Budweiser (higher ABV than here in the USA). Erin go Bragh. It was a great visit. Hope to be back soon.

I don't know if you could answer this, but there is a historic village experience somewhere in Ireland...I saw it mentioned once in a video and unfortunately, didn't copy it down. It's outside of a castle, I believe, that is not a ruins, but furnished and does tours. I hope that's enough to give you an idea of what I'm talking about, because we'd love to experience it (old Irish home replicas and a possible re-enactment of old village life?). Any help is appreciated! Thank you again!

Another note: when Irish people say "mountains" they mean "very big hills" because there are no mountains in Ireland, so don't get confused when you don't find any or get disappointed

Best advice, dont visit Dublin it's not safe. I'm an Irish mother and I won't go near it especially with my children!!

On the note of American express (someone might have already said) but it’s usually the less preferred payment even here in the US by small business, the reason being they charge the merchant a higher transaction fee than others. For large business they likely have a negotiated rate with a payment processor for all types, or they are just big enough to eat the cost, but it’s usually more of a strain on small business.
