The whole of Europe was such a beautiful place before the world wars my city of Liverpool was destroyed by the war.. we had the worlds first overhead railways system and many many beautiful buildings.. I’m so glad this beautiful rail system survived and many buildings

I remembered that Tom Scott did a video on this, but not why it won't work elsewhere. And now I'm wondering. Look how efficient the use of space is! hardly any ground footprint. Those stanchions could double as light posts! At the very least, in Southern California, where street cars pause at intersections just like all other traffic.

Over a century later and little has changed, except the carriage cars have been updated. A monorail out of a science fiction movie! Long live the Schwebebahn! 😊

How can something so beautiful turn into something that ugly ? The streets, the cars, the buildings....the city looks horrible today !

Sadly, that’s what happens when a town and country is gripped by a fascistic criminal political Party which undermines any kind of humanity with pure violence. This should remind us, what’s happened now in the Ukraine, to stand together in Europe against Putin. How beautiful my hometown looks in the older days, but this awful architecture changes, takes only place in the center of the city, nearby in the higher parts of Wuppertal, this breathtaking old architecture is still alive in the biggest German Quarters of Art-Nouveau and Founding Period architecture. A highlight is the "Briller-Villa-District", Europe's largest connected villa district, boasting stunning buildings from ~1900 as showcased in the video clip. I highly recommend visiting if you appreciate historic architecture. This buildings survive WW2, in fact of the nearby founding Place of the chemical and pharma giant company “Bayer” where are many of the most important medicine products like Aspirin, sadly Heroin but also the first wide-spectrum antibiotic “Sulfonamide” - Nobel Prize, was invented and produced. What a wonderful work, man! On my 2022 trip to Germany I made a point of going out of my way just to visit Wuppertal and see this wonder with my own eyes. Incredible!

would be nice if modern video was with normal exposition, it's clearly overexposed. I made the same due to Google maps (that's much more comfortable, cause you can do it at your own pace and return back. And was really impressed that this older part of the city is almost as it was, I mean of cause it is modernized and repaired, some new places appeared on the bare spots from old video, but due two numbers on this props, that hold the rails you can identify all old buildings from that video, unfortunately the third part of the route shows that that part of the route didn't survive the war(As far as I guess) or modernization :-) also I noticed a station at 2:26 was moved to another location (it appears earlier on the modern video, where the accelaration is noticeable, because of the train's stopping on modern platform). Anyhow , thank you for your effort, it's interesting to compare side by side and confirm all my previous conclusions
