      Hi Jason, along with the 65 lb Mantus , we have 275 lbs of chain below adding another 300 lbs. KYAN II weighs about 26,000 lbs and in 10-12 foot seas we have never had an issue. We keep our weight evenly distributed.

      @@SailingMORGAN Thank you. I recently bought a Nauticat 44. It has 2 cqr's on its bow that I'll be looking to replace one day. I suppose if the anchor is a fraction of the weight of the chain, then it doesn't matter all that much. I have a smaller 26 foot MacGregor sailboat that I have a 17 lbs Mantus on. Oh boy do I love that anchor! It held me solid in 4 days of 30+ knot wind. At the time, it killed me to pay the price for it, but after that one trip it was worth every penny. Jason

    Just found your video. I own a Mason 43 with a 45lb CQR and considering the same Mantus anchor highlighted in the video. What are your thoughts on the Mantus now that you've had it a while. My CQR definitely seems under sized for my boat.

    • @SailingMORGAN
      @SailingMORGAN 2 года назад

      Hi Pacifico, we think our Mantus is an improvement over the CQR by 100%. We have used it Florida and back. The other important addition is we added 300 feet of chain and never use less than 80 feet even in 8 feet. The simple fact is the chain adds 1.1 lbs per foot. Added to the anchor gives us more than double the weight! The chain often is never stretched and acts like a secondary anchor. We proved this using our anchor marker. thanks for watching our videos and we hope you subscribe

    Why hydrovane vs…..?

    • @SailingMORGAN
      @SailingMORGAN 2 года назад

      There are a few important reasons for a Hydrovane. 1. It’s an independently driven system with its own rudder and mechanically driven vs a servo pendulum system that uses existing rudder. If you rudder fails, Hydrovane will get you home. 2. Hydrovane uses no power and is self steering to the apparent wind. It can also be adapted to a tiller pilot. 3. On long passages or short, Hydrovane is like a crew member, and let’s single or short crew a chance to relax.

    Couple things. You need a sleeve where wind doesn’t get underneath panels. They are not design to bend more than 30 degrees and overtime they crack under wind gust. Happened to me. No matter what zip tie you use, under the sun, after couple seasons, they snap. Not the best thing to use. Happened to me as well. And lastly, do not mix different wattage panels in the same array. Parallel or series, you will decrease the performance one way or another.

    • @SailingMORGAN
      @SailingMORGAN 3 года назад

      Thanks for your feedback. The panels are designed without sleeves to allow cooling. What you saw bending was the material flapping and not the panels. Heat is the worst enemy to flexible panels. This system allows air to cool them. Zip ties are a maintenance item , and yes they always need to be checked regularly like anything else on a boat . The different panels are on a separate MPPT controller. This allows us to use different voltages between controllers.

    Just got a 79 Morgan OI ketch, starting the refit journey. Hopefully down the Columbia river to the coast this fall. FB Sailing Sweet Haven.

    Thanks for this! I was just going to rebuilt my old one (OEM - Perko) but I have to say I really like this Groco design much better. My engine room is going to be completely redone. It’s a mess. The last owner and before apparently had no idea about routing hoses and lines....
