Hi hi I am in need of some advice! I love singing & have loved it my whole life. I plan to start ACTUALLYYY filming singing covers now, but covers aside, how do I go about making music as somebody who doesn't know how to make beats/play instruments? What would be the best way to go? Thanks!

Always wanted to make my own music since I fell in love with EDM about 15 years ago. Thought it would be easy because the more abstract way my brain tends to process music, each waveform has its own "signature", its own quirks in my mind's eye. Prob some form of synesthesia just something different than the traditional "see colors with music". All of that hope and excitement grinded to haul once I realized how overwhelming the process was. Music theory? DAW prices? Anything I attempted to do just sounded off, horrible, almost like a betrayal. It made no sense. Finally I realized my real issue. I was expecting to have the tools/equipment/skills/money of a professional to even *start* Slowly unlearning the lie and with the help of a tutorial I was able to create some very quick melodies and smash them together as pure practice. A friend enjoying it gave me a confidence. Don't need to be perfect and know "all of the book work" before you start. It doesn't need a "purpose" to exist. Its a massive pain to over come (especially with a perfectionism + adhd blend like myself) but I trust we all get there someday. The world might be burning but our hopes and dreams don't have to either. Art itself is the gift we need to thrive. Thank you for giving me more hope :D

I (allegedly) pirated FL studio years ago, I was on and off making stuff. I'd open it and make something for an hour before getting mad at myself for it sounding bad and deleting the save. When I was watching this I went back on FL studio and made a basic drumb loop, it was nothing special but it was something I was proud of. I'm really grateful you made this.

This popped up in my feed while i was doomscrolling and i cannot understate how much of a breath of fresh air this video really is, especially with the reminder that excuses are bullshit. I grew up a classically trained violinist who made some music as a late teen, but burnt out hard when Uni hit. Now, working as a dance instructor/competition dancer, it almost feels silly that this video is probably going to be the catalyst that gets me to dust off those old DAWs i had a buddy crack for me in high school. mane i am thinking of creating a single song for almost 2 years, i can't get out of my head and start doing actual thing. i had million ideas going trough my head, million melodies but i can't keep it simple and when i do, things seems unperfect. and after all of this time sometimes i think "yeah, maybe that's just not for me", "maybe i don't truly love it" and i know that's normal, maybe there's something i am better at doing but that thought is still very painful for some reason. my main problem is perfectionism and actual idea what to sing about, i know i can sing about anything but singing about "sun is bright and butterflies fly around" isn't satysfying, it has no meanining. i def have bad mindset going on.

by the end i kept thinking "ohhhh this is whyy i love music and love making music omgmggmgmg" You did your job well.

its really none of the resasons listed in the tier list as much as it is just me not knowing where to start music as a medium is not as straight forward to start building stuff with as something like drawing or cooking is like if you were told to "draw something" even if you dont have any art background, you can still make a picture its much harder to "compile" a song, let alone build a melody when you have 0 knowledge of music theory

It's really hard, music is something I always wanted to make and tried many times but getting to make something that sounds decent and interesting seems like a milestone impossible to achieve to me, surpassing this first wall is really hard xd

I love music, i like singing, but I'm out of tune, no good voice, that doesn't stop me, so i learned beatbox. Percussion is music. And so on

It really is much easier to make music now than when I first tried it which makes it more daunting because you hear kids making the wackiest shit, but not much point in comparison & the accessibility of it is ultimately a beautiful thing. I think if you're purely focused on electronic stuff, remixes might be a good shout in place of covers. You've made me wanna remake some of my old WIPs, good video

The advice to start out with making covers is actually fantastic advice for a coupler reasons: 1) You study what works in songwriting 2) You improve your abilities 3) You can gain an audience by playing songs that are currently relevant, and then some of that audience will be willing to listen to your originals 4) Its easier to put out covers on a regular basis because you don't have to feel super creatively inspired to make a cover
