6yr ago. How is mining benefits now.
These destructive people do not care about the Rennell people, their environments or their rights to their island. They come to steal, destroy and kill the environment and when the environment is gone, where do the people of Rennell go? The government is dumb, blind and ignorant they should protect their people.
The people say no and move the destructive companies out of the Rennell.
Interview audio?
:( so sad. Logging is the worst thing ! Be careful of not turning into Rapanui which was left without ANY TREES with over logging.
Money greed mixed with naïveté will be the end of many Pacific communities in the next twenty years at the hands of rapacious Indonesian and Chinese companies. Don’t expect a shadow of « sustainable development » from these people. Wake up and be proactive or kua mate te henua with these foreigners.
Lavoi tokana!!!
Hi Chris, which islands or shoals at 0:32 sec.?
Mining Dept. & Govt Ministers responsible have certainly compromised themselves in accepting bribes. That's they are keeping a deaf ear or silent over your concerns, which is so sad and unacceptable. By brothers and sisters, I as a Bougainvillean would like to confront them and shut the mine and loggers. So your government can listen and do something. Paul FAHEY Toll
Very sad 😪😪😪
i knew few of those guys. lamekk
Chuu good oketa khana..👍👍
This logging and mining is going viral in Rennell island. Stopping the on going activities is very late and now we need to find a way to deal with the negative outcome of these programs. I believe people are more depended on sea resources when there is no land for gardening which lead up to poor food security. So, we need to be ready to help preserve and manage the marine resources of Rennell island. The Government had adopt the SDGs in the policies but yet they look over on what happen on Rennell Island.
Unfortunately the new government is as corrupt as the old one :(
Absolutely right people need their natural resources. You are the land owners and the sea owners not foreigners. Govt have no right to invade like that put greedy Chinese mining co to ruin the land and sea with your daily Kai moanas seafood. Time to stop the mining
The moral fabric of this island is unravelling fast which is very sad to see.
Hi David, the moral fabric of the whole of the Solomon Islands is unravelling and this is mainly due to the influence of loggers and miners in my opinion. Politicians get tempted by quick money and that corruption ripples down. If the leaders are corrupt everyone below them in the pecking order says "if they are doing it why should I miss out" so it spreads. I doubt that much change and conservation can occur without new leadership and that will be very hard to achieve under present laws. Parliament dissolves Dec 18 and every politician gets a hand out of SBD400,000 to use as they wish. That ensures incumbents remain in power.
i been in Rennel for almost a year as technical crew for a logging company.what i saw is the local are being ripped and rob.they didn't stance a chance fought well funded big pocket company.works n jobs opportunities is only for foreigners mostly.if thereis any , that's only for blurry the reality.my advise is ,save your world /paradise before its too late.bcoz we already experienced it's before then we regret it.
Mining alters the natural environment regardless of whether it is good or bad.
How can we help out the people in Rennell?
NOTHING!
If you are in Solomon Islands contact anti miners. Really they need money for court cases. We at OceansWatch are trying to stop mining. projectsforgood.com/projects/473/story
It's complicated n impossible..
"Good ethical mining" says the miner at the start of the film, OMG he is hilarious! Well Noipe Primary School students and teachers for standing firm.
This is a shameful thing indeed. If I were them, there's no excuse to stay back on Nendo island. Pack up and back to your continent !
Yes, Nende does not need mining. We are trying to get support to take legal action. projectsforgood.com/projects/473/story
What a joke from that white man. There is no such thing as good mining and bad mining. Is this how white people trick village people? Thank you students and members of that community to stand firm to say no to mining. Yes your land is too small and preserve it for your future generations to plant food crop on it for survival.
We are trying to take court action projectsforgood.com/projects/473/story
