Gute Video -alles verstanden. Bin nicht so brutal mit meiner Felge. WD 40 ist nicht gut für Gummi. Habe einen SECO 4x4. Bin damit sehr zufrieden. Zusätzlich hat er RC und auch GPS. Das macht sich beim Grasmähen sehr gut. Bitte mache weitere Videos. Grüße aus Berlin /germany
Love the reply all the way from Germany. Wow. I do plan on making more videos.
I cant tell you uow many times I have come back to this video in the past week. I, like many people, simply dont have the money to get this done by a shop. You're saving lifes out here lol. Thank you so much. I'm just waiting for decent weather to get the head off. Praying its just the gasket!
Thank you for the kind words. This is my goal. Just trying to help. I am no mechanic, just a man with some tools. That knows how to do something the wrong way several times. Lol
What a nice humble guy!
Thank you for the kind words
Been buying old mowers for 15 years, it’s a great investment
I have enjoyed working on these.
Im not to sure about the heat shrink without cutting the wire but ive used paint on electrical tape in situations like that. Still seems to be holding strong did it about a year ago
I never thought about paint. Latex paint is a rubber.
@@lsdgarageI think what he is talking about is liquid electrical tape. They sell it at Lowe’s cheap
I’m still riding mine as my only mower. Still has all the stickers. Replaced 3 carbs, 2 spindles, 2 tires Still like a champ 23 years later
Sweet these mowers get a bad name because they atr sold at Walmart. But if you take care of one they will last a long time
Power wash it before you work.on it
At that point I didn't have a power washer. The sump gasket was leaking so badly I was afraid it would pressure water into the engine. I plan on cleaning the mower up in an upcoming video. I got a pretty radical idea for a dump bed on back of it. Using a old atv rack and a frame from an old mower.
Got one of these at home, one of my projects for the summer. One side of the coil is firing but the other isnt, do you know why? I would be really thankfull. Love the video by the way.
I bet the coil is cracked and moisture got into it. Causing corrosion have you tried to replace it?
You can get one for about 30 dollars on internet.
Oh thanks, yeah ive tried replaced it but same problem. Thank you so much for replying.
Maybe it can be bad grounds too?
very interesting.. i wish i could be some kind of help but i cant even begin to think what could cause that
im going through this problem at the moment on my 1990 but im pretty sure my valves are burnt and arent sealing properly as the exhaust is sucking in and is down on power really bad. i did a compression test and cylinders 2 and 3 were reading 10 and 15 psi and this video is helping me out. thanks for the post 👍
I agree a compression tester will help alot. Heads for this engine are getting hard to find. So might want to take all measures to fix the one you have first.
@@lsdgarage i had to come back to the video it turns out its just a head gasket but i havent really looked into the head a lot i still have a lot of cleaning to do to the head and top of the block and she should be good to go
Start working on my 89 Friday huge help to see the tear down and build up
Thank you for the feed back. The overhead cam on this engine isn't as bad as I thought it was gonna be. This is the first time I have touched a ohc engine.
hey i just got the same murrary machine today lol
These are really tough machines if you halfway take care of them.
Welcome to the club..... lol lol 😆 🤣
I have one and having problems starting
They usually respond well with a carburator cleaning.
I show how to clean one of these carbs on the video junk yard dog.
@@lsdgarage it doesn’t do anything new battery new silenoe charge the safety brake or cloche
Why not just get atv tires that fit the mower rims
I can find atv tires and rims on market place for less than 100 dollars pair. Atv tires for lawnmower rims you cannot find used easily. And new they are expensive.
Looks like a machine shop did a lot of work on that head. It definitely looks good. Does that use Torque to yield or reusable head bolts ? Just curious
Torque to yield. I replace head bolts on automobiles everything I take a head off though.
Why?
Why not
It’s 4” X 4”. Side to side. Cross is 4” x 1.41
My tape measure must have been wrong. Lol
Nice video. Sir, how much time these compressors can run continuously? I bought one like yours but i am scared to use it for 30min-1hour constantly.
I have used this one for a 12 hour period. It was on and off all day. We was sand blasting a tractor. Had another compressor hooked to it for help. Parts are scarce for this one. Divilbiss model is a close fit.
Kool. Just keep going a little at a time.
12 minutes in I realized I was watching you rebuild an air compressor . good video
Well, I used my built-in torque wrench and over torqued the bolt for the piston. The piston is a discontinued part. So now it is broken until I can find a cross-referenced part.
Good idea if you got a set of wheels around you can cut up.
Yes I agree. Just so happened I got extras around. I am planning on doing same thing on front end also.
I need to mount some atv tires on my mower But needs to be other way round . Have splined hub mower rims , and my mower takes 10x20x8 tires on a 5 bolt rim . Factory rims are something like 200$ per
What is your bolt pattern. U said 5 bolt pattern. But what is the space between bolt holes?
A cheap automotive rim from scrap yard may fit.
@@lsdgarage I measured the bolt pattern , but can't recall what it is . Likely same as a auto , but finding auto rims that fit a 10 " tire would be impossible Just easier to cut the mower rim hubs out and get drilled for bolt pattern
@@outinthesticks1035 I agree.
I bought my murray rider in 1996 and still use it, like the video but that loud music has me turning volume down then when you start talking I can't hear you.
Time to put some on the front
Yes I got a plan to put some on.
Just here for the comments. Never disappointed. Lol.
WOW this is a great video on how not to do shit, I have never seen anyone work so hard at one thing that is a half hour job at most...WOW...
Is the tire ok tho is it strong enough
nice black and decker drill who owns m.t.d. now stanley bostich yes stanley as in stanley black and decker
I didn't know that
For changing tires I use either dishwasher liquid, or liquid laundry soap. Like you said it doesn't matter, they all make it slick. Much better than WD 40, that can deteriorate the rubber. Any oil based lube will. I enjoy your videos, interesting and informative 😊 Have a wonderful day sir Those tires look really good . Nice work sir
We was out of dish soap. So I used my wife's expensive "bath and body works soap". This will be my new -goto- lube for tires. Lubes tires plus makes your hands soft... lol thank you for the good coment.
We all have our ways to try to get an engine to start. I start with 2 things, first I remove the spark plug to check for spark, and I use a compression tester that tells you 2 things right off, how much compression you actually have, and if you have spark you can also determine if the spark is weak, strong, or intermittent. You did the right thing with the coil. I have worked on a lot of small engines I find it fun . It could be out of time, caused by several things the flywheel key could be broke which would let the flywheel turn on the crankshaft . That's easy enough just take the flywheel covers off and where the key goes see if the flywheel has moved the keyways should be in line. If not the key has broken and the flywheel has moved on the crankshaft. At that point remove the flywheel replace the key and hopefully it will run. If I lived close I would be happy to come by and help you. I live in southwest Missouri. Good luck I think it can run without a lot of work.
I am getting a compression tester this week. Never owned one. I did check flywheel key off camera and it is fine. I think it may be a stuck valve that is stuck open.
@@lsdgarage If you have low compression, take a look at the valve adjustment, if the valves are out of adjustment that can cause low compression. Any compression reading below 40 PSI is suspect. It could still run with compression that low. But it would be very under powered. Good luck, keep us posted I subscribed, I want to see how that thing runs.
Cool! I might weld a huge washer the the hub for added strength, due to the ATV rim offset. I'm a pretty big guy myself. Your video also gives me a great idea for upgrading my electric wheelchair tires too. Thanks for the great ideas!
Glad you like it. And please send me pics of your electric wheel chair when u are done.
igazi amcsi balfasz!
Good ground is a must on a coil
I'm thinking it is something to do with valves. Maybe a stuck valve or valve adjustment. I am going to buy a compression tester and leak down tester also.
Don’t over heat start my friend Just say it
Nah.
i have reversed 13 inch car wheels and tires on a murray about like that one . was able to leave inside 1/2 of rim intact for more strength . no clearance issues w/ well worn 155 80 13 tires . if you grind off part of hub , you can put original wheels/tires from rear on front .
I wondered about putting rear tires on front. But I didn't know if they were same shaft size.
Yeah that's what I'm going to do
I try to buy them all the time if price is right Most needs a engine and rod thru block
I would pull valve cover and make sure it don’t have a suck valve. Good video. Me and Weston is doing a restoration on my old Honda 70 three wheeler. We got it stripped down and getting parts list together.
I am buying a compression tester for the next video.
Go to HF and get it plus leak down tester Best tools ever mechanic needs
You mean "Valve Core", not stem. The stem is the part that mounts into the rim and the core is the part you unscrew out.
That was a test and you passed.... lol
Doug Seaman As long as we're splitting hairs... It's called a "Valve Stem Core". But I'm sure everyone else understood what he meant, even it's just refered to as "Removing the stem". Am I wrong? BTW, it was a tube, so it's not mounted to anything. Sheesh!? 🤣🤣🤣
We need to get together and get some things going!
I agree
That's my car!! Awesome video and it was a pleasure doing this video with you!
i have 2 murray riders from that period . still mow well / have solid decks . murray built the best of the lower priced mowers at that time , in my opinion . the later ones with no wheels on the deck didn't seem to have the same quality as these older ones .
I was very impressed at how complete the 14.5 hp was. The mower deck is shot holes all in it and bearings locked up. I believe that was why it was put out to pasture.
With the Lamborghini on the dash 😅
You noticed. I had to bring my super car to the show
Lol I have a orange one if u wanna add it to the collection 🤣
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Enjoyed this video. You did what I would have done to get that old girl to fire. Will be looking for the next one!
Those Flat head engines are bullet proof almost, I'm sure that mower would clean right up to look good as new!
This one is a over head valve engine.. and yes I agree this thing should clean up nicely.
@@lsdgarage Yeps👍🏽
I've got a 2004 murry riding mower new carb runs like it's cold natured till it warms up as soon as you engage the mower deck slows down to half speed have checked all the pulleys nothing binding even unplugged all the safety switches just to see if it's a bad switch , still does it . Even adjusted the vales thought that might be it . Nothing I'm scratching my head on this one ?
Check your fuel line and that little red filter. They clog up over time. Makes them choke down once you engage a load on them. I cannot stand those little red filters. I prefer the clear ones. You can see your fuel flow
Very good 😆😘
Love that Chevy year model!
Yes I agree those models look the best.
Over the years I’ve fixed alot of the Walmart mowers They were really a great buy back then The price has more than doubled now Some folks are buying new engine and fixing them up Just makes sense
I personally know the original owner of this mower. I know how much care he gave it. I am trying to do the right thing by it and making it a better version of itself.
It’s my personal mower also Hardly use it because I’m testing customers mower all the time
That's a pretty nice mower, are you going to try to make it faster?
It is hydrostatic I can try. But with my experiences with hydrostatic transmissions. They don't handle speed well. Do you have any ideas on how to make it faster?
@@lsdgarage The only thing I know of is put a smaller pulley on the transmission, some change the engine drive pulley with the transmission pulley, that will usually make them around 20-25 MPH which sounds slow but with a lawn mower is actually pretty fast. You could over ride the engine governor, but that's really a bad idea, you could over rev it and have all kinds of things go bad like a throwed rod. Not good. Just putting a small pulley on the transmission could get you up to about 12-15 MPH, then add a bigger pulley to the engine if you want to go faster. Just remember big pulley on engine, small pulley on transmission equals higher speed. Good luck with whatever you decide to do. I enjoyed your video sir.
I enjoy the feed back. That is definitely something I'm going to look into. Thank you for the feed back
@@lsdgarage You're welcome, another thing, if you change to a lot smaller pulley, you will most likely have to get a shorter drive belt. Thank you sir, I enjoy trying to help others. I put a25 horsepower Kohler V twin, on a Murry 40 inch cut that had a 12.5 horsepower engine, I just got the engine on last Friday, I need to do some more work, like the hood hinges needs to be moved. I plan on using it for cutting grass though. Should be able to cut some tall grass.
That was a great video. I learned a lot. But there is one thing you left out. The red color masking tape and extra flashlights in case the lights go out on the trailer you are towing goes out. .
Oh wow I forgot about that day. Our lights went out on the trailer. We had to use 2 cheap flashlights, ductape, and red tail light tape for tail lights on the trailer. Didn't you have to sit in the back and blink a flash light when we turned?....
