Back in 2015 I rebuilt my tired 2001 KTM 380 EXC , after reconditioning the motor it was fitted into a 2013 KTM 350 SXF linkage chassis. Many modifications were required, with several not mentioned in the video.

Hi, what airbox did you have to use for it or did it mount straight up to the carb? Thanks
Airbox is original 2013 SXF but fitted with a same year 250 SX (2 stroke) air boot. A custom aluminium reed block adapter and short body PWK 38 AG Airstriker carb was required to adjust the intake angle and squeeze in between engine and airbox. Boyesen carb adapter boot (from a RAD valve) used to join carb to aluminium reed adapter.

Embarrassing to ask this but is that a 2 stroke or a 4 stroke. Sounds like a 4.
Amazing work, the best crossmotor ever build. What is the top speed? And how much horsepower does she have?
Thanks man, top speed is not as high as you think with gearing I run 14/50, 145-150 kph is about it but it gets there quickly. Horsepower was dyno’d in the old chassis at 42 rwhp with an o-ring chain, new 120/90 knobby and original PWK 38. Limiting factor with the old chassis was the air box as it made 3 extra HP with side cover removed, not sure what the numbers would be now with the newer air box design, modified reed adapter and short body air striker carb…

I think I spy a maico 490 in the background?!😳 we may be long lost brothers from different mothers. I have a 380, had 2 maico 490s, and enough spares to build 3 more just shy frames. Gave them to a friend to care for.... Needless t9 say maicos are gone😢 freaking tragedy!! You better have a big sack if you plan on riding a 490 to its peak😳😂
😁That would be a 440. I love big bore two strokes, got five Maico’s - 3 runners and 2 in build, a KTM 500 and a couple of four stroke big bores for something different. Shame you don’t have your Maico’s any more, they are getting harder to find without dropping serious coin.

Any reason why you chose this chassis? Least modifications? I want to do a 380 conversion too. I suppose almost any 250f or 450f frame would work. What about a yz250 chassis?
Hey man, I wanted the linkage chassis so it had to be an SXF over an EXC. The good thing is that KTM have not changed the width of the engine in the swingarm (100mm wide) between the 2 stroke and 4 stroke engines, similarly the offset from the LHS swingarm spacer bush in the engine case to the middle of the countershaft sprocket is 40mm on both engine types. Other than the swingarm pivot bolt being 2mm larger on the 2013 model, the engine pretty much slips straight in. The frame rails are wider on the 4 stroke chassis and the front down tube comes down lower so it needs to be cut off to miss the torque chamber on the 380 motor. Main thing to watch on the YZ chassis would be the things mentioned above, if the motor fits in the swingarm and the chain lines up with the rear sprocket then everything else can be adapted or modified.
I saw at 19 80th a racing Action with Maico 440 that other machine like ( yamaha , Honda , zündapp ) wasnt abel to do it ...I neuer foget this scene.. 😍💣maico lover 💘💘👌👍✌

very noisy camchaft and chain it's dangerous to the engine in high rpm maybe will jump a teeth and broke all distribution

impressive!!! what modifications did you do to the rad's? couldn't quite tell what and understand why.
Thanks man, I used the original 380 EXC lower radiator tanks on the newer SXF radiators because the hose attachments are completely different on the four stroke. The top radiator tanks are still fed by the Y piece in the frame common in the later model KTM’s.

This is very professional, I’m thinking of doing the same project with a rhb5 vg1 from a cx500 turbo, how is the power gain you got from it and how much do you boost? Also what compression ratio are you running?
